I'm 17 and I am actually getting fed up with social networking and tech, I mean, I can't say I don't have an addiction, but in the past few months I've actually been hanging out with friends, and actually leaving the house, and all I can say is I've felt happier, less lonely. I can barely play video games anymore because I get bored and I'd rather be out on my bike or hanging out with friends. Put your phone down, and actually TALK to your friends face to face, trust me, it feels a lot better. I do love talking to my friends through text when I can't see them though, but if you're with a friend or a group of people don't sit there on your phone, I have friends that do this and it annoys the hell out of me. I had a friend that would get mad at me if I didn't text them, but I was with a friend, I have all the time in the world to talk to you, so stfu and leave me alone.
My smartphone broke 2 weeks ago, now I'm using a feature phone. I've been thinking to just quit all my social media, and this movie just makes me more sure to not buy a new smartphone. good job!
This is literally every single person besides me at my high school. They all sit and 'Socialise' while they text each other and go on their facebook and such. I don't even HAVE a Facebook, I'm kinda like the girl in this video, it always bugs me when people just go on their technology instead of actually interacting
+Matt Bloggs UA-cam is nof social media. If we were actually on facebook or twitter then she would be a hypocrite. But this is a response to a well thought out short film. Never once did she say she was any better then them, only that she didoes not have a social media addiction.
ii SpiiN ii UA-cam isn't a social network. It's a website for entertainment. At the time of this comment, I was not neglecting a conversation. That's not being anti-social, as I was talking about earlier. Watching youtube at home by yourself is very different to hopping on good old fb in the middle of a conversation.
Deactivated my account 1 month ago and couldn't be more happier ,it gave me back the time i missed and destroyed spending on it watching useless crap.i Started in tech field 8 years ago and at 26 i am done with it apart from my work requirements i have almost lost all interest in tech gadgets whatsoever.Time was good in 90s when i used to play soccer,go swimming or play snooker with friends. Now a days life revolves around SEX.MONEY and FAME. Sitting around elders and having a chit chat with them makes me feels good as social media has taken over almost of the younger and mid generation.
***** Your right. It's a new way to be non confrontational and still communicate…I don't mind social media and enjoy it because it is helpful when you grow old and keep in touch with people you never see anymore, but it also creates a new fake world (especially for young women) where they get the attention they need without any physical interaction…So many people might be mistaken about a person they see on Facebook when they meet them on real life…ie: You see a mid twenties women who seems to have the perfect life because of what she posts and how many likes she gets for her never ending selfies. But when in real life if you were to meet the person and hang out in the same group of friends that one person everyone thinks is so cool is in fact a tool. Sure maybe we all pull out the phone to take a pic of something extraordinarily funny or something, but when you see someone who always has a phone in their hand even when they're not checking it gives the impression that they do not enjoy another one's presence when around. It's uncomfortable to be around those people and I'm now choosing to ignore those types at all cost because in the end they're not much of a real friend. I've also come to terms that those who use it the most are usually the most desperate for attention, thus, unhappy/extremely bored with their REAL social lives.
I actually went off social media for a year and a half back in 2015, but it wasn't the most productive year of my life, kind of wasted my time and turned into a hermit.
Love this concept!! Facebook has become so demanding in every day life these days and it is like a disease. This is why I recently deleted my account; to step back to reality. Well done Shae lee.
i hate people who are on fb 24/7 i dont go on anymore and im glad other people are doing the same i realized it was a anti social network about 2 years ago and didnt need ANYONE TO TELL ME
It's a really good movie!! The addiction and the incision into life on people if shown really exelent!! And if you think on the teenager right now in our society a movie like this will become more and more important, I think!!! Be aware of blunting in social competence ... talk, look, feel and everything in the real world is so important!!! Once again, Great movie!!! Good work!!! Best wishes from Germany.
Its a brilliant short. Finally someone who really gets how the world is drowning in this insanity called social media, and translated it in a great comedic way.
I loved this video. I am writing a paper right now about this very subject. I can't stop thinking if adults have a hard time "disconnecting" how will our future generation "disconnect?" This helps a lot, thanks.
Yeah I pretty much predicted that date was Dead On Arrival. I really like how this film contrasts social media vs. face-to-face communication and how Lucas saw FB thumbs over people's heads and and such. It was a clever but subtle way of showing how Facebook became Lucas' new "Reality". Overall I think Shae-Lee Shackleford put a lot of thought into the writing and it paid off considerably well.
I am so fortunate! As a 60 year old man, I can live my life without a mobile phone. Never had one, so I don't miss one! I very nearly ran over a couple of teens yesterday as they were crossing the road, totally engrossed with whatever was on their "devices". And this wasn't the first time! I fear for the future of our species.
Thank you for that movie. If someone who is inside this facebook-posting-liking loop will see that, he or she will maybe check the fact, that it is such a strange behaviour to be always in touch with the mobile device. I got these situations so much, it is absolutly annoying. Once again, great movie! Well done.
Anyone who also over and over checked their phones/laptops and the beginning of the film thinking they get a message and then realized it was just in the film?
I took Instagram off my phone and iPod and all I can say is that it really feels so much better without it. I dont waste time scrolling down the newsfeed anymore and I'm not checking the comments and likes every 30 seconds! It really makes a difference.
I've seen a lot of comments on here saying that technology addiction isn't that bad, though that may be the case for you, it sure is for me. Or at least my family. Everybody I know stays in their house, unemployed, doing nothing but sitting with their faces in their phones. When I want to hang out with friends and have a nice time, everybody pulls out their phones and stares... Call me old fashioned, but I don't think social media, or the smartphones we have today belong in this world.
I quit facebook a while ago and I feel great, fuck social media, you cannot really know a person throug social media, speaking with a person in real life once is better than speaking 100 times with someone in "social media"
Great movie! Just what I needed for my new cause- Facebook Addiction! :-) Keep up the good work, it's a cute and funny movie but has a very valuable messge behind it, that's SO important for today's age, so thank you in the name of the Many :-) Lots of Love & Good Life! Gil from Israel :-)
Yes I have to agree with Warren. I kept on hearing like sounds and message sounds and finally worked out that it was on the soundtrack. This was a very encouraging film and shows how engrossed we are with this social media. I pray you have good success Shae-Lee
Well , I take a break from everything. I only have WhatsApp. That too for professional reasons. But I come back once in a while just o check everything. LoL . Keeping yourself disconnected for long isn't too healthy as well when we are living in a state where this is considered normal. I was called 'weird' for deactivating all my accounts.
This short film is the best portrayal of how social media is effecting our day to day lives. I love this film. I am going to recommend this to all my friends.
That was very well done. With the amount of camera shots, locations, dialog, actors and extras, scenes exc.. I know this must have been a lot of work. Congratulations.
Amazing stuff here! You actually made me feel the discomfort during their date, not easy to do. Awesome message, shooting, audio, animations, everything.
To be honest, it's easy to say something isn't useful, because technically humans don't *need* much but we twiddle our thumbs otherwise. I do like the dialogue, overall a good film. I think social media changes us in a way.
Shae-Lee, I found this looking for Short Films on YT yours was at the top! Glad I found it. Your films really hit the nail on the head. It would be nice if everybody saw your films and Woke Up. Nobody is "in the moment" anymore. Keep up your great work, you have a LOT of talent and you select excellent topics. I really hope your films have an impact on somebody. Aloha and best wishes, Kim
This video is brilliant in showing the truth about facebook. Between 2006 and 2008 I got loads of e-mails about facebook sign up and invites, in late 2008 I set up a facebook account to see what all the fuss was about. What followed was discovering loads of stolen photographs that I took on other people's facebook pages, loads of trolling comments on my page and some very odd friend requests from people who are anything but friends, by 2012 I had enough and stopped using facebook for good. Unfortunately my brother thinks that facebook is the best website ever made and will ignore me for hours looking at facebook on his smartphone.... I am here in real life!
Hit the nail on the head with this one. What would we all do if the satellites went out for just a few days? Would people actually talk again or go through withdraws and lose it?
hhhhhhhhh when I heard it I was like "someone commented or sent me a message on Facebook" and then I realized that my Facebook isn't even open so I looked toward my phone but then I told myself the sound can't be that loud if it was my phone and then I realized it was in the movie
I liked it. It brought attention to social media addiction without bashing it. I think social media addiction is more of a user problem. Like addiction to alcohol.
This was great, noticed when I'm out on a dinner date I'm similar to Lucas, taking pictures of the food and checking in etc. Thought it was funny, simple and very unique. Nice one.
This was brilliant. I'm adding it to my weekly feature on SocialUnderground.com. Should be up in the next day or two. Bravo. This is hilarious and also oddly sad that society has separated people so much because of technology.
I was on Facebook two months after not being on it seven year's, just left it today and never going back to it. I realize how shallow even own family can be and is real check to see who likes you and who doesn't. Is big popularity contest. I was upset that my best friend stood me up and other saw me at gym and didn't bother say hi. If you're important they will call oe text or email you. This short film is brilliant. I mean we spend so much time on facebook and if we are not we worry what other people might think about us. We should start to communicate again, face to face and not with a smartphone in our hands.
Hey guys. We recently made our first short film with the Canon T2i and the Canon 50mm f1.8 lens. I think we got some nice results considering the restraints that we had. We'd appreciate it if you'd have a look and leave us a comment with any tips you might have seeing as we are just getting started with film making :)
This is so good and clearly based very much on a well observed reality! Loved the ending. I made a 15 minute short and a 30 minute documentary over the last couple of years so I can appreciate the huge amount of work that goes into even a relatively short piece. Best of luck with it Shae-Lee.
Every time the "notification" sound effect happen, I switched away from this to my open FB tab to see what was happening over there. Every time I realised it was part of the video and not someone contacting me ...
Update: since watching this video i have reduce my Fb time to less then 5mins a week. So with all the extra time freed from facebook ive been able to spend it doing real things like watching more youtube, liking instagram pics, reading reddit and playing xbox :D
Mohamed maba yeah man its true, my friend and i did it together. She deleted her facebook i just stopped going on FB. I found when you delete your facebook people msg you asking if your ok. As if your mentally unstable for deleting FB when maybe the truth is the opposite haha. The hard part for me is now with the extra time and thinking space is what can i do to be productive and make it worthwhile
No kidding, but I just uninstalled my Android Facebook app. . . Not sure for how long but I did and thats what matter. Thanks for showing that real world is what matters and not virtual one.
More than a year now and no FB app in my phone ever since.... I use it only before going to sleep coz hey socializing is also important. Leaving FB, i got addicted to another platform "QUORA" and believe me it's hell lot better for wasting time :P ....Coz there you learn something while doing that....
Thanks Pete! Glad you enjoyed it! I hoped it would really relate to a lot of people. I actually wrote the film when I had deactivated my Facebook! I lasted about two weeks! ;) It was a liberating experience though. I think social media has it's place but it shouldn't distract people from living in the moment!
Amazing! :D Really didn't such great quality from a youtube film, but it was so good :) I'm really baffled, I was going to search for a short film youtuber, first click, found a very good one already :)
+Shanghai Alice NOOOOO!!! I WILL NOT KNOW THE NAMES OF EVEN HALF OF MY ACQUAINTANCES!!!! "hey.. I know you.. what was your name again?" is never a great pickup line!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I like your story mate! It's just like mine!!
true but my friends are always busy with others... :(
***** :')
Wow!
:-)
that's good dude..
My smartphone broke 2 weeks ago, now I'm using a feature phone.
I've been thinking to just quit all my social media, and this movie just makes me more sure to not buy a new smartphone.
good job!
deleting Facebook 6 months ago was the best desicion I ever made.
This is literally every single person besides me at my high school. They all sit and 'Socialise' while they text each other and go on their facebook and such. I don't even HAVE a Facebook, I'm kinda like the girl in this video, it always bugs me when people just go on their technology instead of actually interacting
Its awsom what you're doing keep on! I wish i was.like you

I kind of wish social media crashed for a year though
David Yawson-Dogbey but why should it crash? just quit social media pal.
David Yawson-Dogbey so others could communicate as well
I actually went off social media for a year and a half back in 2015, but it wasn't the most productive year of my life, kind of wasted my time and turned into a hermit.
For forever it needs to be shut down
YESS

+AaronN Thanks Aaron! It's crazy that it's becoming more relevant now then ever even though I made this years ago now!
You were ahead of the times.
@@shaeravendirectingGreat video
UA-cam is a slightly better addiction.
Scott Cohen I definitely agree! This is not my proudest moment, but I can stay on UA-cam for hours at a time!😫

This is by far one of the most thought-provoking and well-made short films I've seen in a long time! Keep up the great work :-)
That is the Reality. Great short film. Welcome to LIVE in REAL world with LOVE.
I loved this video. I am writing a paper right now about this very subject. I can't stop thinking if adults have a hard time "disconnecting" how will our future generation "disconnect?" This helps a lot, thanks.

Proud not to be on facebook, twitter or snapchat :D
+CaveThief Same!! I only use WhatsApp.
Yeah..me too! Have no Facebook or snapchat except whatsapp and Google of course and I have a happy life!
+thegalaxy2012 I don't think anyone does
Facebook's the only social media I do and I rarely do that.

Love the writing, directing, and acting. You did a really amazing job
The VFX are amazing too!
This is the most accurate portrayal of zuckerbergs levitation I've ever seen. Message is spot on!
Nice work! We ought to learn from this. I tried a month offline from social media, worked wonders for me.
I am slowly realizing how disgusting FB is becoming. It's not idea of connecting to people but it's how people are using it mindlessly.
Shae-Lee, I found this looking for Short Films on YT yours was at the top! Glad I found it. Your films really hit the nail on the head. It would be nice if everybody saw your films and Woke Up. Great film! -at the start when I heard the notification sfx, it made me instinctively check my facebook! :P
hhhhhhhhh when I heard it I was like "someone commented or sent me a message on Facebook" and then I realized that my Facebook isn't even open so I looked toward my phone but then I told myself the sound can't be that loud if it was my phone and then I realized it was in the movie
I liked this video so much, I shared it on facebook.
I liked it. It brought attention to social media addiction without bashing it.
I think social media addiction is more of a user problem. Like addiction to alcohol.
Very nice short film and a must watch for every person who is destroying his skill n time wasting over it!
superliked it!
a short film about anti-social network and at the end it's like 'like us on facebook'
lol :P
ikr! the irony lol
There's utility in it but I guess the message was about addiction, right?
Lol I love the end! But in all seriousness love the views! Very good job I loved it!
its so funny because no one uses Facebook anymore
I do snapchat and tick tock
This was great, noticed when I'm out on a dinner date I'm similar to Lucas, taking pictures of the food and checking in etc. Thought it was funny, simple and very unique. Nice one.
Scintillating stuff. Bang on and brutally awesome on every aspect. Keep em coming
This is actually quite good. Short film about social media "addiction"
Social networking should stop existing like the video, I lost friends and real connection with people because there updating Facebook and forget how to talk. This is Poison tea.
HA! The ending was bomb xD
Very good, loved it. Good acting, gorgeous girl, pretty accents. Overall A+.
That was a terrific short film. Gr8 cameo from Matt Doran.
Loved this short. Hilarious ending and was great to see an Aussie short on youtube. :)
This short film is brilliant. I mean we spend so much time on facebook and if we are not we worry what other people might think about us. We should start to communicate again, face to face and not with a smartphone in our hands.
That awkward moment when your name is Layla and it sounds funny to hear other people say it in a film
Hey guys. We recently made our first short film with the Canon T2i and the Canon 50mm f1.8 lens. I think we got some nice results considering the restraints that we had. We'd appreciate it if you'd have a look and leave us a comment with any tips you might have seeing as we are just getting started with film making :)
I was wondering where this film was going... the ending cracked me up! well done!
This was a pretty awesome film. Thank you for making and sharing it.
Totally breaks the fourth wall at 3:15 lol.. Solid film either way!
Love this! One of the best short films, in my opinion.
Good one! I liked of how you blurred the lines between online and his reality.
I like the "little blue bird" at the end.. LoL Smartphones make people dumb due to addiction; virtual and reality started blurring as the main effect!
oh god this is sooooo brilliant and super funny and true!!! and the ending was theeeee best !!! great job
This is so good and clearly based very much on a well observed reality! Loved the ending. I made a 15 minute short and a 30 minute documentary over the last couple of years so I can appreciate the huge amount of work that goes into even a relatively short piece. Best of luck with it Shae-Lee.
The general ending (he wants to change) or the ending-ending (he asks if she's on Twitter)?
That was really eye-opening :) great work!
The DOP work was very nicely composed! And the motion graphics are really well done. Great film guys!
That ending was awesome. "Are you on Twitter" HAHA!!
Every time the "notification" sound effect happen, I switched away from this to my open FB tab to see what was happening over there. Every time I realised it was part of the video and not someone contacting me ...
Reminds me of most people in my class... Cleverly done, really strengthens my thoughts
the irony to this is, it was most likely uploaded to Facebook as soon as it was finished
ordinaryrapper08 😂😂
'Like' that you 'like'!
Nice job on this video
I deleted my facebook a year ago and I,m glad I did
Great film , show us how we are losing the good moments of our lives and becoming dependent of virtual social net... to express our self.
I can't believe exist someone so addicted like that. I don't have facebook.
Disliked
He ate vegemite... no words.
Joking, great video with a powerful message
Love the 'like us on facebook' ad at the end. definitely accents their point that they don't support social networking like that
Well written, well shot, well performed! Bravo!!!
Now definitely i will improve my social habit
Found the video by accident while looking for a short film to show my students...GREAT IDEA~ I'm sure my students will LOVE this video :)
really love this video, waiting for the next episode.
Keep up the good work!
I want to share this on Facebook but that make me subject A in this film Lol
Update: since watching this video i have reduce my Fb time to less then 5mins a week. So with all the extra time freed from facebook ive been able to spend it doing real things like watching more youtube, liking instagram pics, reading reddit and playing xbox :D
Michael Chambers
hhhhh if this really happeou r z most lucky man n y
Mohamed maba yeah man its true, my friend and i did it together. She deleted her facebook i just stopped going on FB. I found when you delete your facebook people msg you asking if your ok. As if your mentally unstable for deleting FB when maybe the truth is the opposite haha. wow this nice .. i need to do that to go forward .. u may wish to me good luck
Michael Chambers we need to convince our self about reason of using facebook ..
That was surprisingly insightful. Good film!
No kidding, but I just uninstalled my Android Facebook app. . . Not sure for how long but I did and thats what matter. Thanks for showing that real world is what matters and not virtual one.
Go you! Hope you've been enjoying the 'real' world since doing that (and that you lasted more than a day!) ;) Either way good effort!
i feel sr for 224 ppl that disliked, they misunderstood the meaning of this video
More than a year now and no FB app in my phone ever since.... I use it only before going to sleep coz hey socializing is also important. Leaving FB, i got addicted to another platform "QUORA" and believe me it's hell lot better for wasting time :P ....Coz there you learn something while doing that....
+Rahul Gupta Facebook isn't socialising
+Rahul Gupta i'm going through the process of deleting mine
Really good guys. Whatever the addiction is really changing since the time of Luchino Visconti's "Ossessione". Bravi!
first thing to do after watching it - share on Facebook!
Thanks Kevin!!! Really appreciate it. I'd actually love to read that paper - might give me ideas for a sequel!

Thank you so much Michael! Love hearing that. Please do share it around! Much appreciated!

This girl is really beautiful
Great time to watch this video in 2022. It shows me how messed up our society really is.
So great.. you did a perfect job pulling everything is. :) strong story as well good acting.. not always so on short films
Great job
Amazing! :D Really didn't such great quality from a youtube film, but it was so good :) I'm really baffled, I was going to search for a short film youtuber, first click, found a very good one already :)
Great film. A real modern comedy. Well done to all.
