I shut down mines 3-4 years ago. Only "social media" I use is reddit and youtube but i obviously don't use my real name so people can't find me lol.
The one thing that would have made this better is if the guy just picked up his celphone and put it back in his pocket because there was nothing wrong with it after it got smacked to the ground.

I had an old phone that fell from a ride in an amusement park, like 3 meters down onto metal, it clicked open and the battery fell out, but it worked fine once i put it back in xD
I once knew a girl that liked this dude that didn't have social media.
She completely freaked out. Not all dramatic like this but more on the lines of she didn't know what to do.
She was confused and insecure because she didn't know if he liked her, whether he had a girlfriend or what he likes and dislikes. So she didn't know anything about him.
When I suggested that she should talk to him and ask him about these things, she looked at me like I was asking her to jump off a cliff.
As a dude that doesn't have social media myself this is pretty much how I view the world now.

@@Douken serial killers have what’s called a “mask of sanity”. They know they are deviant, so they try to find ways to fit in with the crowd and appear normal. So presumably a serial killer would be on social media.

You’ve got to love how not having social media makes you different. Told a girl I was talking to that I don’t have social media when she tried to add me. she asked if I was a serial killer and I laughed then said “no” and that there’s probably psychos on social media . Plus, I think it ruins the mystery of a person. If you know everything about me through my social media profile then what’s the purpose in getting to know me?
Precisely my thoughts. Social media is ultimately self-defeating for this reason. A person should keep some mystery about themselves; that adds rather than subtracts.

If you seem like a loner, chances are you might be a psycho (sadly, that is the interpretation) and if you have pictures with people around and smiling, you might portray as someone fun to be around with

Anne Rose Right on. I think the question should be more age specific though. Being 29 myself and not using social media is why I feel self conscious and wonder if it’s weird someone my age isn’t.

Look, just because something has become normal - that doesn't mean that the behavior in itself is normal.
Social media is a relatively new phenomenon. For all of human history, social media has never been around. We've existed forever without it.
If anything, it's the people using it who are the 'oddities'.
The only reason they are even on social media is because they are attention-whores who seek validation from others (they will never admit to this)
Social media has normalized what in any previous era - would have been called 'stalking'.

dont sell yourself short man,,,personally I think choosing to not conform and stay off social media as you are doing carries far more weight then you may think, adding to ones integrity which to me superseeds something as shallow as appearance. which In the end translates into you attracting a more, shall we say "genuine" group of admirers, that dont base their self esteem on how many pokes or likes they get in a day. I've never had Facebook. It's genuinely evil, a nightmare that doesn't wake up. It's a very strange feeling to know that you're doing the right thing, but that you're also the only one who's doing the right thing. It's very difficult to respect peoples intelligence when you know that whoever you're talking to has an account on Facebook through blind zombieism.

What is sad is that so many people post everything about their lives online like it was the logical thing to do. I'm glad I'm not part of such crazy trend. I'm not as ghastly as he is, but I'm close.
Isn't it sad that we'd even consider him to be ghastly? I'd call him closer to normal than all the other people desperately posting things everywhere for approval/attention.
We can't keep living in the past. I'm certainly against attention whoring, so I can agree with the man's stance to a certain point, but let's not take it to extremes. Not being on any social media or not using the Internet at all while you're a young person and not some 80 year old geezer waiting to die, is not exactly ideal in this time and age. That's why I can't help but call him ghastly. But hey, if he can still lead a normal life like that no problem. Let's just not forget that technology, the Internet and our daily lives are heavily intertwined nowadays.

This is me! Never had any social media accounts - ever. Just text messaging for me - and the odd UA-cam comment! I am a keen observer of life - and nothing social media brings appeals to me. In fact it seems to be the source of many problems for those around me. I guess if it's all you have known - the prospect of being without it must frighten. I enjoy talking to people, going out, doing things - I will go round to see people. Yes it takes time and effort - but tell you what, it is worth it. I feel so sorry for people obsessed with images of themselves and their lives - I can see the sadness, pressure, anxiety it often brings. I notice groups of 'friends' starring at their devices in silence. Not for me. I am always present and never distracted. I don't miss out on anything - my friends tell me what's going on and ask me along. Don't get hooked - one day you will look back and regret the hours, days.. and even years you wasted staring at a screen. Just try doing it less...you may discover something really worthwhile and feel better for it.
My favorite non-action part from Cobra Kai is when Daniel tells Johnny he is stalking Ali (and not feeling ashamed about it) and his reaction when Johnny asks "What's a Facebook?"

I reckon I can be accused of being anti-social since I don't have a Facebook account, or a Twitter account, or use other social accounts. I rarely email but I do send text messages. I prefer to communicate via the postal system.
I was about to send a "tweet" via one of my homemade postcards* and thought I should check YT just to see if by some miracle this skit had been returned to its rightful place. I am very pleased to see that it is back. For months, it had been replaced with a statement similar to, "This video does not meet UA-cam's standards." ... blah, blah, blah. This is a wonderful skit and Georgia Maguire was fabulous in it. I'm a big fan of hers and Amy Hoggart's.
*On the reverse of my 4x6 postcards, where I write my notes to others, in the upper left corner I inserted a pterodactyl in lieu of Twitter's blue bird with the first line to the right of the pterodactyl stating, "POSTCARD, the original tweet!" The second line reads, "I don't face and I don't twit!" Third line reflects the URL to this skit. Now that this video has been returned, I don't have to draw a line through that URL on my postcards anymore. Yeah! The pterodactyl is meant to represent the old way of communicating, the postal system. I could have used a snail instead of the pterodactyl since it is snail mail but, I'll stick with the flying lizard.

That is me pretty much in a nutshell. Had no Smartphone until mid 2019, don't use social media and about 99% of the time I use the smartphone, it's for navigation.

Social media free since 2012. No FB, insta, sc, twitter and etc. I only use youtube (why does this count, when I'm anonymous?) and discord as a means of chatting with my handful of best friends and keeping tabs on hobby groups.

Just found this in 2024 and it gave me a chuckle because I'm like that guy. I don't have a smartphone. I have always used a dumb phone (currently Nokia 225). And I'm not active on any social media (well, maybe here, but infrequently).
