I picked up a crew cab long bed king ranch 6.0 4x4 for 7500 bucks about a year ago. I do all my own work to it and while yes, it has broke down 3 times in that year, they were all inexpensive repairs (by diesel standards) and I was able to do them myself. It's been a true learning experience and has given me a new drive for diesel mechanics. These trucks are real good bang the for buck! I absolutely love the thing. Tons of power even just in stock for to pull my trailers that are around 10k lbs. Best of luck with your 6.0 man! I highly recommend the FTE (ford truck enthusiasts) forums. Super smart guys on their that have helped me a ton when learning this diesel.
Nice, I picked up an 05 E350 with a 6.0 to start my own business. The seller thought it was blown up, it would crank and smoke like crazy. I changed fuel filters, oil along with doing a block test and the problem was the egr valve. I paid less than $2,000 and the van had 120k on it!
I own the "unreliable" 6.4 diesel powerstroke. Mine had the badly engineered emission system deleted when nearly new. Just returned from a 3600 mile trip with huge camper and trailer with another vehicle. 326000 miles, burns no oil and had a trans rebuild at 278K starter at 280K thats it. Fix the known issues and these trucks are very reliable.
That's a pretty nice truck. Yes, the 6.0 (six point blow 😁) can be problematic but you are into the truck cheap enough that you should have money to bullet proof it. I'm not a fan to 20 inch wheels and I would have kept the old ones and just put tires on it but that's a personal preference deal. I liked and just subscribed to see how this project proceeds. BTW, the words "mountain" and "button" have T's in the middle of them. 😆
Mike, after all we seen here in the channel I was never disappointed even with your work , BUT when you say “hundred” I cringe lmao pronounce the “D”!! Hundree lol love you man!
This is where the replacement heads from Powerstroke Help are key. The stock heads don't have brass valve guides and related and by 200k, they get worn out. Otherwise, you really covered many of the 6.0 issues.
I have an 04 and an 05. Never had head gasket problem. It's not the head gaskets most of the time its the EGR COOLER putting exhaust pressure into the cooling system. Don't tune it and it'll last forever!
The 6.0 powerstroke is not as bad as people think. If you take care of it like anything else it will treat you right. I have a 2007 f250 with a 2004.5 motor. Have yet to have issues other than injectors. Daily drive it complete stock egr delete that’s all still has stock exhaust
I’ve got an 07 with the 6.0. Had it for about a year now. Sure the bed is shot but the frame and cab were in good shape. Came with studs and the EGR… modified. Bought it for 6500, then put another 6000 into it for some front end work in addition to some minor upgrades (billet transmission pan, 6.4 starter) and new rubber. Overall a good running truck
They’re good, till you get close to 150k the the high pressure oil pumps starts failing, oil cooler starts getting clogged, head gaskets are pretty garbage, and turbo is just as bad. My dad spent close to 10thousand dollars to get his 04 6.0 running after it quit, 2 months later same thing again, we found the problem and changed the high pressure oil pump and ficm, not even a month later it’s down again, and that truck only got 142k miles on it, save yourself a headache and sell it before it quits and don’t have any value anymore.
I've had 2 Ford 6.0l diesels they are fine if you "bullet proof" it actually Bullet Proof diesel is in AZ not too far from you. They can be a lot of help. 500 hp in the first gen 6.0l is possible but not really recommended. There are plenty of forums that have plenty of advise and wisdom
The plastic hubs means its a dana 50. Still tough as nails though. I put mine through hell wheeling with two different gear ratios in the axles and it never broke!
These engines are legendary. The problems and lawsuits Ford had to overcome are ridiculous. You know, emergency vehicles trying to go out to save people's lives, but breaking down by the ton. It was not pretty. Apparently International, who built the engine, was kind of, sort of pressured to release the product prematurely. But be that as it may and whatever the real story is on these things, I had one of these things myself. I'm not a great mechanic myself, hobby level rather, but we fixed the EGR and head bolt problem, modified the exhaust a little bit, etc. This engine, if you look past and fixed it's main issues, is one of the most awesome powerplants ever, in my mind. I just loved it. I currently live in Germany and have been through many vehicles since then, but I always remember burning rubber in my 05 crew cab. A great engine and this thing just runs forever. Fix the three issues, the three main issues that is, give it fresh filters and oil on the regular and it probably will do a million miles. I mean, I don't know, but you can find a lot of farmers and business owners in Oklahoma and North Texas who did exactly that and are still doing it. Bottom line, it's hard to find a better engine, old, new, modern or ancient, from a cost perspective. It most likely can't be called over engineered, but if you want to go a million miles, it might as well be, which is rather comical, considering how it all started.
Another channel with quality 6.0 content. Yup, i subscribed! I have an early 04 ccsb king ranch unit thats been my favorite truck by far. No studs, all factory internals. Non compliant, big gearhead tunes i shouldnt run and never a single problem at just shy of 200k miles. I also have a ccsb 03 7.3, the holy grail. As much as Ive put into that truck and love it dearly, I love my 6.0 a TON more, and its been just as reliable. More power, more efficient, better trans, better truck overall. Tuned in from Moab Utah brother! Keep em coming!
I love 6.0l Powerstroke, believe me. I know the 6.4 are very problematic engine and its very expensive to fix. 6.0 is least problematic and it's really easy to make 6.0 reliable.
My dad bought a used 04 6.0 with 80k miles on it, previous owner took good care of it, fluids were changed way before the recommendation, it drove good till he got to 140+k miles, wouldn’t even turn over just out of the blue, he brought it to a shop and spent nearly 10k dollars on parts and labor, bout 3 months later it quit again, we decided to diagnose it ourselves this time (dad is a diesel mechanic and older brother is auto service technician) I wasn’t certified on anything but I know a thing or two about vehicles and this model in particular (most of people told me to stay away from) first suspect is egr, changed it bulletproofed, then put a brand new ficm, tried it didn’t do shit, so we decided to put a new high oil pressure pump, tried it, ran good for about a month, then quit again, we already cleaned everything that’s a suspect for getting clogged, already put brand new head gasket, still wouldn’t crank, truck has good compression, fuel system is all brand new from fuel pump filter lines and even injectors, even mechanic shops and dealerships in our area have no idea how to get it running again. At this point we just decided is a garbage of a vehicle and spent too much time and money on it, so it’s now just parked, save yourself headaches and sell it before it breaks down on you and you lose your money on it.
I’m putting in a reman 6.0 in an excursion at work guy had too much fun with it big turbo, big injectors, built trans. The lifter needle bearings fell out and down into the oil pan and got sucked up by the low pressure oil pump. Engine went kaboom
Good deal, but careful man - those cranks can take AS MUCH AS 700hp. You can near that and run it hard consistently (which you will do) - it'll snap. When it eventually fails - swap in 6bt or 5.9 ISB. The 12 valve is very capable, but the 24v will have double the mpg when configured properly.
Cool to see ya working on a 6.0. I’ve heard bad things online, but a lot of good things from the diesel techs I know that have had them. I’d really like to see someone build a 6.4. I saw one a little while back at tractor supply that was squeaky clean a Russian kid had got for 4k with only 80k on it to start his business with. He said he thought he’d get a lot of miles from it, and he’d already done 50k. I wish I remembered what all he said he’d done to it, but it was just a quick conversation cause I complimented how good it looked with the factory 2 tone white and red paint. Definitely was deleted, but I know there was a bunch more he’d done.
Nice Rig! very similar to mine! love the direction of the build! mine won't be getting the full meal deal treatment, more or less just upgrading as it needs, but can't wait to see the next stage of the build!
Man you definitely ain’t in the northeast… not only is that a smoking price idc if it’s a 6.0 diesel here a 5.4 gasser is selling for that price and more likely then not rusted pretty badly. Nice ride. Glad I found your channel. You earned a new sub, nice video quality
Thats a awesome truck. A guy i know scrapped one for 750$ i told him the engine alone is worth 1500. He sold it simply cause he didn’t wanna fix it. Truck was super clean and just needed a new bumper, rad and tranny cooler. He drove into a block wall. Nothing else was damaged. He also just rebuild the front end. Sad i missed out on that deal. I would have given him 1k all day
*this channel is badass! Glad I found it. Looking forward to more videos of this 6hoe. Didn’t expect upgrades on the same video of introducing the truck…. That got my attention. Like the channel . I like what your doing. First video I’ve watched and I can’t wait for more* 🔥
i dont know mch about tires, but i can say though the "new" tires you "just installed" seem a very sm comparison to the original i think tho if you were planning on buying much "larger" closer to the metal areas of the tires, you would thank me, i say that cuz it would looks alot better. appearance wise.
That thing looks super clean and ready to go another 100K miles! I’m curious if you checked behind the flares for rust. Sometimes the aftermarket fender flares themselves will hold moisture against the body. Keep it clean Holmes! I’m looking forward to additional diesel content to go with your Tacoma and 4WD stuff.
Was looking at your page a couple of days ago wondering about your trucks. Glad to see you upload again! I’ve had poor luck with ford but haven’t really been into their trucks but they hold their value
How would y’all buy a truck like this with similar mileage? An all stock papaw truck, or one like this just slightly massaged, or one with the supposed “bulletproofed” trucks?
Absolutely love my 6.0, I was told never to get one super unreliable blah blah blah, I’m on my second one now, and they are awesome! I had an 04 ex cab long bed, with a zf6 and 4 wd 200k on it bone stock I picked up (rust free) for 2 grand and drove 9 hours home, a very nice introduction to the 6.0 and to the manual transmission world My hpop went out tho unfortunately at 206k and being poorer and it needing work in other areas I sold it But I went and picked up an 04 excursion with a 6.0, and wow what an incredible vehicle, unfortunately it is pretty rusty but it can be fixed It also has a zf6 in it and 4wd, but it’s studded deleted tuned, and it’s fun asf Has an 03 turbo so it sounds like a jet All this to say I definitely do not regret my purchases, and I look forward to future videos with this vehicle Definitely a good pick in my opinion
Rejoice!!! Mike has returned 🙌🏼

Oh nice! That’s a great deal!
Things happend for a reason. I hope u succeed Gangsta
Love or hate the 6.0, it sounds so good with aftermarket exhaust
absolutely
Nah hell no the 6.0 all day long is literally the most unpleasant sounding diesel ever made
That s sarcasm right?😂 in right order and im a ford guy
Cummins
Duramax
7.3 powStr
6.0 is steel garbage lid noise
Pretty decent for $7K. Looks better already! Looking forward to more videos Mike. Love your content! ✌🏼🇨🇦
The tires and the lift, really made it look nicer. You’re right.
Man, I love grandpa truck esthetics, something about them is so cozy.
I own the "unreliable" 6.4 diesel powerstroke. Mine had the badly engineered emission system deleted when nearly new. The problem with the head bolts isn't that they aren't strong enough it's that there aren't enough of them.
For sure.
Stoked for the next video!! These 6.0’s are probably my favorite truck when done correctly.
Great to have you back on UA-cam. Cant wait to see where your journey takes you with this truck. Excited for more videos! 👍
Hearing that fog horn and I knew I recognized where you are. Love your videos and glad to have you as a neighbor. Looks like a great project.
Happy to be around, thank you for the kind words!
Good to see you back Mike, sweet truck you always buy the vehicles I want!!
Happy New Year Mike! I'll pray for you thru this build. Nice looking truck but I love the Tacomas!
I have a 2006 king ranch six liter. It has never let me down. Treat it well and it will treat you well, looks like a good ole girl.
Welcome back man. Excited to see the new build. Though I do already miss the Taco.
It’s still here!! Video next week on it
Man can’t wait for the next episode. Got a 6.0 myself and love it
They’re something!
Been checking your page ever so often to see if you uploaded a video and I missed it. Glad you're back!

Spot on. Stock heads are no good.
He’s back! I love 6.0’s and always wanted one. Might have to get one after this series
Either that, or you’ll know to stay far away 😂
I had an 03 6.0L for a while. Never had a head gasket problem. Quite literally everything else on that engine broke, but the head gasket held strong.
Haha it’s funny how that works out
I have an 04 and an 05. Never had head gasket problem. It's not the head gaskets most of the time its the EGR COOLER putting exhaust pressure into the cooling system. Don't tune it and it'll last forever!
Love the truck brother! Wouldn’t you want to weld a tab on the inside of the lift block to retain the bump stops? Might be useful for a tow rig.
Not a bad idea!
Nice. I like seeing people put effort into what most would call unreliable or undesirable. Every car and truck deserves it!
Beautiful Superduty, Personally I would've looked for a 99-03 7.3L Powerstroke for a dead reliable engine. But you want HP so 6.0's a good choice
7.3s are undeniable, double the price though!
@@mikes4x4garage That is very true 7.3 prices have gotten insane! I plan on hanging onto my OBS 7.3 until I'm in the ground Lol

Great video. I would keep the exhaust audible but way quieter myself. Build looks good though
I also have a 2003 6.0 with 190k for my tow rig. It hasn’t let me down yet. But need to do the head gaskets soon.
Nice! Your reinforcing be belief that the only way you can afford a cheap vehicle is if you can do the work yourself.
Hell yeah brother!!! Good to see you back. Looking forward to some Diesel content.
yeah brother!

Ladies mostly gentlemen has me rolling. Best of luck with the 6.0, curious of what you are going to end up doing to it.
Should have some stuff real soon!
The plastic hubs means its a dana 50. Still tough as nails though. I put mine through hell wheeling with two different gear ratios in the axles and it never broke!
Check the center section, it’s a 60. The hubs you’re referring to are on the 05+ 60s
This is gonna be a awesome series! It’s great to see you back.

I was real worried you were done with UA-cam. Good to see you back
Happy to be back
So glad you’re back Mike!
You’re a diesel mechanic by trade. It all starts to make sense now.
OM 606 swap it.
Converting the HP pump from electric to manual. It's capable of 688hp with stock internals
Loved my 04 6.0. I had less problems with that truck then my buddies who had a 05 and 06 6.0

You will only blow a head gasket on these 6.0s if you power tune it or from not doing regular maintenance

You cant buy something all wore out and expect good things the last owner is responsible for there maintenance.
Exciting build! Something different. I"m hooked already!
Good thing is some good tunes and bam 500 but i would look into bulletproof diesel or something equal too
my gramps had something done to his engine(i think head gasket) and his hasn't had an issue since the fix, little over 300,000 since.
Nice Rig! very similar to mine! love the direction of the build! mine won't be getting the full meal deal treatment, more or less just upgrading as it needs, but can't wait to see the next stage of the build!
Glad you’re back from your slumber.
it was a good little sleep

So happy to see a new video. You are awesome!!
WTF!!! was that beeping noise when you were doing the exhaust! Sounds like a busy line beeping
Sorry about that. On the ocean here and the fog horn was going off haha!
That exhaust sounds way better. Looks like a solid tow rig.
Thank you!

glad youre here!

Dude that thing sounds sick!!
happy new year Mike! Always love your content.
Great to see ya back with a new to you truck!
for sure!
love those old wheels let me know if you wanna get rid of them
Absolutely love my 6.0, I was told never to get one super unreliable blah blah blah, I’m on my second one now, and they are awesome! I had an 04 ex cab long bed, with a zf6 and 4 wd
200k on it bone stock I picked up (rust free) for 2 grand and drove 9 hours home, a very nice introduction to the 6.0 and to the manual transmission world
My hpop went out tho unfortunately at 206k and being poorer and it needing work in other areas I sold it
But I went and picked up an 04 excursion with a 6.0, and wow what an incredible vehicle, unfortunately it is pretty rusty but it can be fixed
It also has a zf6 in it and 4wd, but it’s studded deleted tuned, and it’s fun asf
Has an 03 turbo so it sounds like a jet
All this to say I definitely do not regret my purchases, and I look forward to future videos with this vehicle
Definitely a good pick in my opinion
Thank you! Sounds like you had some good deals too
Hell yeah! Glad you're back at it! Great video as always, Mike.
I’m super excited about this project! And seeing where it go’s keep up the good work!!😁
Thank you!
Watching this video after watching the future videos, can’t stop laughing haha unfortunate but hey it’s back together.
Babe wake up!! Mike’s4x4Garage posted a video!!!! Love the vids my guy 😎
The only good thing about the 6.no is the sound. I lemon lawed my 06 after 7 seven turbos.

Let’s goooooo havnt even watched yet and im hype! Happy to see your back!
happy to be back!
finally been waiting for a video, love your videos man
Looks like an easy truck to work on. I just need to figure out how to jump cut IRL
Hahaha
Nice truck! We generally dont see trucks of that age without rust issues..being from the northeast
oh i know it all too well. Grew up in upstate new york. Not much without rot there.
Looking forward to this project! Happy New Year Mike!
