A thick reading book in the fridge LOL...the expanse of the Death Valley area is crazy but amazingly beautiful. For a place so devoid of life and wicked dangers, it's a truly gorgeous place.

If you notice the Flag is hoisted up at the Geologist's Cabin, means someone has already claimed it for weekend. Usually people leave a padlock on the door so their stuff doesnt get taken when exploring the area. The nice thing is all the cabin's have outhouses, beats the hell out of squatting out in the open.

I had a chance to visit death valley last summer. Late afternoon just in time to catch the sunset. Followed by a thunderstorm, it went from 120 degrees at 7 pm to 55 degrees. The sunset was just incredible, truly an experience.
Great video Mike, definitely interested in more like that. I give you tons of credit for all the work that went into it. Also, props for doing it all on your own.

I have a 23Zero Breezeway 62 RTT and i would say its more than big enough for both me and my girlfriend at the same time. I'm 6'3 ~210 pounds and still find it very comfortable to sleep in. We do bring an extra memory foam layer to throw in and that definitely helps. Just as comfortable as my bed at home

I have the same tent and I about lost my shit the first time I used it trying to figure the ladder out. Gotta start with it fully together and pull one by one from the bottom

This is sweet. Reminds me of back in the day I had a old 92 Toyota I drove from Seattle and moved to St. George Utah and I would drive around and explore the southern desert there. Good times. Nothing quite like it. Especially when you get to a surreal place

As an 03 tacoma quad cab owner, so cool to see this! I just got a hard top tent and have it mounted much like yours. I did the same exact thing with the ladder at first 😆

The cabins are all volunteer maintained. If the flag is up someone is staying there. Raise the flag if you stay. You would have been fine. Stayed at several of those cabins.

When the flag is raised at a Public use cabin it means it's being used, first come first served.

Nice!!! We did this almost same trip last January (2023) but in reverse. Trona, Escape Trail/Fish Canyon, Goler Wash/Mengel Pass, Warm Springs, West Side Road and Cerro Gordo. Happy wheelin' and be safe.

Wicked. Rode down through death valley on my motorcycle in 2019. Crossed the Ebbets pass in November and picked up the 395 south. Spent the night in Brighton and loved my next day in the valley. Next night was in Nipton. Great adventures.
That creepy first cabin with the fire going but nobody in sight? NOPE. Hell no. Definitely run.
I gotta say, this has been one of the more inspiring videos for me. I’ve wanted to go on a trip like this for a while, but for one reason or another haven’t committed. CA has some amazing sites and history to explore, I need to get out and see it.

When the flag is flying at those cabins it indicates occupied. The fact the fire was burning and nobody in sight was weird. They were probably pooping. Or passed out/dead in the outhouse. :/

Looks like you're having fun out there I have the 2004 Tacoma with 230,000 miles on it still running strong amazingly enough I can sleep in the passenger seat with the extra cab and the seat all the way back it's relatively comfortable. Especially because I need the space in the back forthe Dirtbike.

If the flag is hoisted, it means someone has already claimed it. There are 3 cabins to use all within a half mile of each other. This is area is Striped Butte in DVNP, near the start of Mengel Pass.
The Desth Valley Germans went to the same first cabin you went to. Took the flag and signed the visitor book. They made a wrong turn somewhere and got their mini van stuck in a wash. The rest is history :)

the buddy heater even at low setting heat up the tent so quickly that I have to shut it off within 30 mins of usage. Unfortunately, I have to wake up every couple hours to turn it back on...turn it back off a few times but it does a great job keeping me, my wife and the doggo warm under 20 - 30 ish degrees

Airbag light could be the clockspring in the steering column going bad. To know for sure, the cruise control and horn would also not work if that light is on and the clock spring failure has occurred. 👍🏻

Yeah those rooftop tents are 100% about ease of use. Back when i took trips and camped every weekend would have been nice. But like you said....800-1500 bucks is insanely high entry cost. Lol dude those public use cabins are creepy af.
