When I made my new characters I immediately headed north and built my camp next to Grafton trainstation along the river. Easy access to a vendor, cooking station and tinkers bench next door, (toxic) water from river and lots of wood around. Your house is also in range of the grafton events so you get rewards whenever someone completes them while you're at home.
Veteran here since launch, I concur with your spots. I never see anyone post about the one right above the Grafton dam though, I love living there early game due to super mutants being right there and an event called Manhunt that gives you 100 caps and decent exp which can be done in less than 15 seconds. Your camp will be safe as long as its placed right and not too close to where the enemies spawn. Has a steel deposit and the mutants drop very good variety of weapons which is good for scrap and tons of 5mm ammo, and a power armor station at the dam
I always start at Silva Homestead-ish. Its got everything, its flat, there's water, loads of free food, wood, wokbenches, nearby workshop, easy enemies..can't fault it.
One of my favorite camp sites that’s good for a new character is just off the driveway for Camp McClintock. Under the nearby power line tower is a junk node. There’s usually an npc and it’s a spawn point for allies like the Forager and the wandering musician. There’s a blood eagle roadblock on the roadway below but their tight roaming radius means they’re not a bother. Plus they often draw attacks away from your camp ⛺️. 😃
My best built CAMP is that spot just cross the street corner from The Wayward, your first location in this vid, but just a bit closer to the main street, I still use it to this day. Anyway, I also get Super Mutants there, and Blood Eagles spawn at a tent campsite not too far behind. But also that that tent campsite can be the Scavenger Trader or whatever she is called, quite often in fact, and she sells some very sought after apparels.
I put my first camp at the last location. The most common enemy spawns are robots and commiebots. The 1 and only time a creature gave me any trouble was once and only once, a Flatwoods Monster was floating along the hill north of the camp. A player must have dragged it to the spot but that one time was it. Made for an interesting few minutes at least.
Unfortunately, based on what Bethesda have said the Lumbermill location is going to become unable to build at. They're planning to do something there which means they'll be expanding the no build bubble. That said, I love all of these spots even as a veteran player.
@TNG76 they're going to be removing all of the ticks and there's going to be people living there. Not sure when it'll go live, but really wish they'd quit taking away the decent camp locations.
I feel like I need to make a camp for the excavator armor, but besides Lucky hole I don’t know any decent locations for minerals with the emption the event load baring
Noob here. How does land work - I mean is it finite? If someone watches this video and builds at one of these sites, is it now permanently occupied for all other players in the game? If that's true can all the good spots be taken as this game has been around since 2018. Trying to learn how claiming a spot works in relationship to everyone else in the game. thanks
Most of the map is available to build on, only certain spots are restricted mainly around marked areas however that's not always the case. In terms of claiming the area the way it works is if someone has put a camp down in the same spot as yours, when you join that server, your camp won't place. If you join another server though and no one is in your spot your camp will go down

You mean on that corner across from the wayward? If so I'm trying to build there but that damn big tree is clipping through the walls 🧱🤦🏻
If you can get your hands on the Water Cooler plan I highly recommend it!
Easiest purifier plan is just inside the front of the capitol building in the Overseer's stash.
