I've watched SNL since it first came on t.v. and I got to say that the episodes with Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman had the most consistently funny skits.
Best impressionist in SNL history. What he understood about impersonations is (at least in comedy) that it’s not about trying to sound exactly like the person, it’s about finding certain aspects of the person and exaggerating them to the extreme.
Dana is the best one man show I have ever seen, and I have seen them all. He was born to do his stuff. His unique take on life and comedy is unbeatable and funnier than anyone else. His array of impressions will have you in stitches throughout his show. He could charge double for tickets and i would still go every time.
The energy, the charisma ,the voice, the dialogue, the individuality, the action....,he got it all. ❤ thank you for being born thank you for making me laugh. Dana you are a treasure. Much much respect.
On podcasts, Carvey said how he started at comedy clubs in San Francisco when Robin Williams was just starting to explode, and you can really see the influence here.
Carvey is an impressionist's impressonist. For him, there's no voice or character which seems beyond his impressionistic reach. Such a remarkable and entertaining talent!
Such awesome, excellent comedy. I had the fortunate opportunity to see him live over 20 years ago in Honolulu at the Sheraton Hotel. It definitely was an unforgettable experience. and a night to remember. Even with no costumes or make up or supporting actors, he held my and everybody else’s attention throughout his whole performance.Dana, love you to pieces. Stay safe and take care. Am so happy to hear that dispite his heart health issues, he is healthy and in good spirits. Yes, he dioes give us his heart and soul. I so love you Dana. You are for sure one of the all time BEST comedians and funniest people ever. Truly a CLASS ACT. Stay well my friend, you definitely are a genius and natural at comedy and also a very humble, beautiful human being 💜 😂.😘.
Thank God Dana Carvey is keeping Robin Williams' legacy of incredibly talented, super-funny manic energy comedy alive. Solely due to their enormous talent both Robin as well as Dana could get away with doing routines that lesser talents would be criticized by the "political correctness police" for.
What about Phil Hartman, RIP. Or bill hader or norm McDonald , Jim breuer and I could go on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on and that's not even the mention of the woman comedians and how can anyone forget the late great chirs Farley RIP
martin short really?? wheres he been? there can only be one...dana carvey is it....too underrated should be a moviestar his stand up is already legendary if only he transitioned into movies full time like eddie murphy and jim carrey hell even martin lawrence aside from seth mcfarlane in my opinion the best impessionist ever
@@vincentcapitano1121 Sorry Vincent. Martin Short is a comedic genius. He and Steve Martin (another legend) have been selling out their tours for several years now. And I love Dana too. They're all amazing.
"He want 'dis'" Carvey can't go full out "nigga" dialect(political correctness , fear of offending the hypersensitive) but the refusal or inability of the uneducated Negro to pronounce the "th" sound is classic

Agreed. I wish I were either born 25 years earlier or that I were blissfully ignorant of the current state of the world. I miss that feeling of innocence.
I was a teenager in the 1970's and I can vouch that the world then was a much better place relative to now; but we didn't know it at the time because we didn't know how much worse it was going to get! It's all relative. You probably will look back to the present time 40 years from now and think this current time was a time of innocence.
"more innocent times" Ah, yes ...one hearkens back ... Illicit affairs/adultery, child molestation, nuclear annihilation. ... but a few of the subject matter covered in Carvey's routine from that 'innocent' age you long for
I was standing backstage next to Dana at a car convention once (he was the MC). The band was telling jokes. He was listening and laughing. Finally someone said "hey Dana tell us a joke". He said "well I don't really tell jokes. I do voices and bits"; but then he said, "I did hear a good joke the other day" and proceeded to tell us one of the funniest jokes I've ever heard.
I come back to this video over and over because it’s just that funny! I wonder if he still doing stand up in Las Vegas and other places? Will have to catch his show one of these days…
Oh my god. So hilarious. Tom Brokaw: "Guber...natorial..." And I love how he slips in the Jay impressions, even one as a dog owner. Jay is like, 'I'm getting attacked here." And Jay responds in kind with the routine heckling, "Apparently the owner is the British nanny." LOl.
Man, Dana really didn't want to talk about what was in his eye. Even though it was an inch long and extremely interesting due to the fact that he probably broke a world record for having something in your eye that long without losing the eye.......
Laughed into tears. The " Gomer Pyle" type accent or maybe Kentucky with a Phd was extremely hysterical to me because it was the exact same feeling I had when first I met a college student from the South a long time ago.
He (Dana) 'does' Jay a couple of times in this video, almost unnoted. IMO the best one is the 'Hey, say hello to Kevin Eubanks' at 1m56s (and one can hear Kevin lauging) - priceless.
Dana comes across as almost overly confident but when you listen to his podcast, he's clearly the most humble person almost to a fault (he apologizes a lot for his ad libbing). He's also been through a lot, from childhood to adulthood, unfortunately. I saw his "Clean Slate" in the theater and even though his movies may not be the strongest, I kind of want to watch them all over again or discover the ones I haven't seen yet (I really want to rewatch Wellville and watch Paradise). I'm really happy he's returned to the spotlight.
@@VestigialHead Yeah, when he brought his infant within a few feet of a crock on one of his episodes. He pushed it with nature and nature one. Like Gunther Gable Williams was killed live during a BAB Circus act by one of his tigers about 6 months after I saw that same act in DC.
The world needs more of Dana!! He was so good on SNL!! Love him
I've watched SNL since it first came on t.v. and I got to say that the episodes with Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman had the most consistently funny skits.
There were so many others for sure. Chris Farley and Bill Murray, a couple of naturals. Murphy and Spade.....:)
Two comic geniuses right there
They were the golden age in my view. Funnier than the original cast.
Gosh I miss Phil Hartman. One of the big tragedy’s of my time. 😓🙏🏼
Absolutely agree 👍
Best impressionist in SNL history. What he understood about impersonations is (at least in comedy) that it’s not about trying to sound exactly like the person, it’s about finding certain aspects of the person and exaggerating them to the extreme.
There hegies
+ saying something funny while doing the impression
Many impressionists focus on just the mannerism. Dana always does a fun story/situation
Dan Ackroyd was infinitely better
Dana is the best one man show I have ever seen, and I have seen them all. He was born to do his stuff. His unique take on life and comedy is unbeatable and funnier than anyone else. I consider him to be very mediocre.
His energy was through the roof. It's like Robin Williams lite.

RIP Robin Williams.
Robin Williams come to my mind too.
The manic energy. Noone beats Wiliams though..he was legendary.
I think it's a combination of high energy and ADHD.
.... Don Rickles and Robin Williams were both truly the speedsters of QUICK - WIT ....
Great energy yeah... well, cocaine is a hell of drug.
Dana at his best. Love it.

He’s got to work on a Sam Rockwell impression, he’s got the face already.
Humanity was robbed when we lost Steve Irwin. It makes me sad every time I hear his name.
