4:30 you had to hold your shield button and spam moving forward, you'll do a shield bash that pushes enemies away. Nobody tells you how to do it in game though, so i don't blame you for not knowing that...

Yeah, but the digivolution kinda bullshit tho. You need guide to know how to properly digivolve, that suck. But hey, i played it so much back in the day
@@a_san_t It's weird looking back because I had bought one of those old Prima guides too, but you're absolutely right. I could always look up what to do but I could easily see how a player without external resources would be so lost.
@@RevMed917 Not only that, but the backtracking was atrocious. Not just the amount of backtracking you have to do, but the act of backtracking itself. Good luck doing that without a guide.
Dis game was my Dark Souls, it would suplex me ten feet into the ground and I would keep getting back up because I was addicted to the grind.

Even when I was younger, I knew this game is bad but I LOVED how hard it was, I know I'm not the only one. Leveling up and getting stronger felt so great in this.
I grinded in this game until i was level 226 so I could end the game on very hard difficulty. It was everything KBash said, but I was fun.

the DS, PS1 and PS4 games are the way to go. No, seriously! Digimon world 3 is a pretty good rpg, Digimon world 1 has really unique gameplay and there's a lot more to say about the DS and PS4 games

@@KBash The digimon battle spirit games for GBA are pretty fun. Also the rumble arena games are basicly smash for digimon. Check them out if you get a chance.

I started playing it with 2 friends and we barely beat the 1st dungeon. I'm still thinking if we should keep on playing it or not, though, cause it's tough! LOL
Oh yeah, I remember this horrid game; good thing I rented back then at the local Blockbuster. Shame too, because I was so psyched up to play, especially after Digimon World 3; but man...they really dropped the ball there. I guess I should've seen the pattern, every Digimon World game always did something different, the first one was a pet simulator(probably the most immersive one), the second became a mystery dungeon crawler/turn based RPG, the third just went all in on being a turn based RPG(and I think it was the best one), and then this one...a mediocre brawler.
digimon fan here. 1 is best, simple and has story its was also unique back then. 2 and 3 are good but annoying digivolution + so much grinding. 3 has enemies everywhere, i love the story, card game and free roam tho. 4 seems meh i never bothered playing it. they should make a remake of 1

I remember trying to play this game when I was like 9. Thought it was the coolest, but never got to digivolve. Literally thought it was fake. Glad I got to see I wasn't missing out on a lot. Thanks for the funny video and for showing pretty much how I felt about the game when I played through it.
I bought Digimon World 1, 3 and Data Squad earlier this year and I remember I raised my Agumon in DW1 by training him in Speed and Strength specifically. Then it permanently Digivolved into the green pile of shit Digimon (Numemon?) and then it died because there was like one time I didn’t take it to the bathroom quick enough. I was gonna see what lil shitty turned into next but it died and I haven’t played it again since.

You could try the Data Squad Digimon World game, some puzzles are a little annoying as the random encounters are but i remember the evolution system being fun and I didn't even understand english at the time, maybe it's nostalgia speaking idk
I just realized this was a five-year-old video that I was listening to on the way home. I have actually played the crap out of the first one and I'm more into Monster Rancher but I was going to attempt to play this and now I have decided (thanks to your video), that I would much rather stick my head in the oven. I'm probably still going to play it though... also have you ever done a video on Baroque? If not I recommend looking at the game Baroque. Ps2/wii version and maybe even the ps1 version but ps2 suffices.

Fuck I remember buying this shit with saved up Birthday money, just cause I loved the first 3 despite no official UK release on no 2, then played this for like 5 minutes and thought what the fuck!? never played it again. This to me was the death of the franchise, but ive enjoyed newer released games in it but this shit broke my heart!
This game is a guilty pleasure for me. Sure, its pretty bad, but for some reasn while I was in middle school, I just couldn't put the game down.
It's cryptic, it's unfair, and it's grindy as all hell, but I still love this game regardless.

When I was a kid I thought this game was actually great and I was just too stupid to "get it" and if I just got out of death valley I'd get into the REAL game. Glad to see how wrong I was.

Well, guess I'm glad I never committed to finishing this one. But Digimon World 1 really was good.
Honestly, I think 2 was the high point of the series. It was certainly rough around the edges, and way too stingy with resources, but you also had a lot of options and control over recruiting, digivolving, and developing your team of Digimon, which is frankly the most important element of any Digimon game IMO.
Saved me the trouble of downloading or buying it. Thank you lol.

Grinding the game
I really liked World 3, it was like Pokemon with (at the time) awesome graphics and on console. I remember seeing the cover for 4 in Walmart as a kid and thinking the game was shit because they were holding weapons on the cover lol.
If you rotate the left joystick 360˚ you should make a rotation attack, i only attack with that attack

I rented this game as a kid. The only thing I remember was reading a novels worth of text and getting lost in the stage select area. Did not like it.
Genuinely don't understand how people can get past Death Valley lol I used to play with a friend and we never made it that far. It's very possible that we just sucked at this game tho tbh

Okay because clearly a lot of people are misinformed over the whole "attacks barely hit enemies but their attacks hit you easily" bit that everyone fails to neglect to *properly* explain.
Digimon World 4's accuracy and evasion stats are both determined by the Speed Stat. The higher your Speed compared to the opponent, the more easily your hits will land, and eventually it'll soon be enemies that have trouble hitting you instead. Some Digimon even have a Force skill which is literally either boosting or nerfing Speed depending on whether it targets yourself or enemies respectively. WereGarurumon X and Alphamon, two Digimon I have both played near religiously in this game, both have a Speed increasing skill which allows me to deal with the more cumbersome of enemies in certain areas from which I'm not immediately able to use my inherent Speed to deal damage reliably to.
Also, if you want to avoid having squishy ass stats when you acquire a new Digivolution in this game? Look into weapons and armor that have Mod Slots, which can allow you to equip special Chips that can do quite a bit of things, and the higher your current form's Digimon is, the stronger the chips you can purchase. Also, unlike most equipment? The chips can be equipped at virtually any level so long as your weapon/armor has mod slots to attach them to. It's precisely how I managed to get through with level grinding Alphamon up to surpass WereGarurumon X after I had managed to unlock the form, and also how I managed to help patch up MetalGarurumon X's stats when I had recently unlocked that form and am currently level grinding it at my leasure.
My point is, to make a long story short, I am perhaps too much of a masochist for my own good when it comes to being able to examine games like this from a depth that most players will typically not really bother with due to how many issues plague the game overall. I'm not going to lie, the game does have issues, even with the workarounds you can manage with it like how I've been able to. If you are the masochist who pretty much preaches "no pain, no gain", then you will probably take home something more enjoyable from this game than most other people will tolerate.

The first 3 digimon world games are actually way better then 4. But the problem with the franchise is they couldn't make up their mind for a while on what they wanted their genre to be. Digimon World 1 is a tamagotchi simulator with adventure elements. World 2 is a classic dungeon crawler. World 3 is a jrpg. World 4 as we know, a really rough co-op hack n slash game. Nowadays though, Digimon games are pretty solid now that they've got some form of identity.

I can agree that DW4 was fucking aweful, but I really much more enjoyed DW2 and DW3 than the original. Just had this werid charm and satisfaction in them. Fuck the dungeon parts of DW2 though....
