Temperature variations will affect the pressure within the bottle. Start by soaking your alcohol bottle in a warm water bath. After you fill your potion bottle with warm alcohol, dye, and mica powder, cork it and as the liquid cools, it will decrease in size causing a vacuum effect on the cork, sealing it tighter.

I don’t use oil I use isopropyl rubbing alcohol. It just helps things from growing, like it sometimes can in water. Now that being said you could use distilled water and either a couple drops of glycerin or a little bit of alcohol to keep things from growing if you don’t want to use just alcohol.
Hello! I am making something similar, but all the mica powder is settling at the bottom super quickly, and just looks silty and meh. Is it because I'm using 99% iso. alcohol? Will mixing in some glycerin fix it?
Mixing in some glycerin should help. Your mica might also be a slightly thicker grain than some mica which will cause it to settle quicker. But the glycerin should help regardless.
Do you have any tips for labels? My sticker labels, no matter their shape, crease horribly on my round bottles. Should I decrease the size of the labels?
Are you wanting it to be a color shift if so you can go from clear to white with mica. If you’re not wanting color shift. White acrylic paint mixes well with the gel.
Hi Andrea! I have a few questions about doing the potions. I have bought some bottles for doing them and I realized that they all have cork stoppers. 1. Is that ok or will it need to be rubber stoppers, especially with the liquids? 2. If I do need to get the rubber stoppers, do you know, is there a universal size of the stoppers? 3. Where would I even go to buy the stoppers for the jars?
You can use the real corks but you may find that you get more evaporation with them and if possible you’ll want to try to cover them completely with either hot glue drips or wax strips some thing like that. For the liquid potions the rubber corks work really well and you can get an assorted bag on Amazon there is a link in the description of this video which will give you corks that fits pretty much every bottle. I hope that helps 😊

I use alcohol or distilled water with a couple drops of glycerin to keep things from growing in it. If you use regular tap water over time it will get “yucky”. I personally prefer the swirls and lack of bubbles you get with the alcohol too.
over time, the alcohol evaporates and/or dries out. I used it with a potion bottle with some gold acrylic paint. The paint is at the bottom of a dry sea. The alcohol is gone. Have you solved this problem???? I'd love to hear any ideas.
The glycerin is to help keep things from growing in it over time (you can also use a little rubbing alcohol). Glycerin is the same stuff you put in a snow globe. I’ve never tried using the tonic water but you could try it and see.

Gold leaf is so fun...and so messy! What about using alcohol ink to color the stone?
You definitely could. I do find sometimes the alcohol ink on a stone like that without sealing it gives some rub off that the sharpie doesn’t.
Two questions. Does it matter if what strength of alcohol that you use-the 70 or 90%. Is there a certain type of mica powder that you use?
The alcohol percentage doesn’t matter
