  • Acura's long-running MDX is the best selling luxury 3-row SUV in America but the competition is getting tougher and it's possible Acura might lose their sales crown by the end of this year. To help stave off the competition they have given the MDX a bit of a tweak for 2025. While some might have hoped for a more through refresh, the MDX still has a great deal going for it. As long as you're not looking for good fuel economy...

    Wasn’t aware this is best selling 3 row - wow. Used to own one of these it was a great vehicle. I think the best looking. Wish they had a plug in hybrid - we would be buying one again.

      I wish for a hybrid as well. When we got this one (a-spec) as a service loaner for a few days, the fuel economy was not any better, if not worse, than our old 3.7L 2010 MDX. Maybe I should have done an ecu reset by disconnecting the battery because so many other people had driven it but it wasn’t our car and I didn’t want to mess with it.
      Unfortunately Acura standard canned response is that they will skip over hybrids and go straight to EV after this generation cycle… and in today’s softening car market for the latter, I have my doubts 😔

      @@Fabulousprofound168 Yah. We were at the Mercedes dealer last year shopping and the dealer huffily stated when we asked about a plug in hybrid (which they sell in Europe but not here) that "nobody is buying those" and that "Mercedes is committed to full EV". So we left. Now they changing course like many others. With battery tech advancing like it is I see no reason to spend money on a full EV that will be next to worthless in a few years. We have a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV that is 5-6 years old and it's great for our use - can go EV day to day but still travel long range without a problem.

    Acura had a quality Sport Hybrid MDX 2018-2020. They got caught up concentrating on an EV version ZDX ... which will Fail like all the others. Nobody wants them. I have a 22 MDX Advance, which is a terrific SUV and has been touble free for 3 years. If Acura produced a Sport Hybrid new redesigned MDX - OMG, what a Winner that would have Been!! More HP & Torque than the standard 3.5L engine (like mine) but with 20% better MPGs !! No Brainer in every way. And like ion 2018 - only about $1800 more. If Acura had a 25 Sport Hybrid version, I would be trading Up to that with my lease expiration in August. Now, I will extend my lease (Acura Financial is allowing me up to 6 months at my current monthly of $610) to January. Then I will either buyout the MDX for the $35,500 needed (my MDX will have only 21K miles on it) or look to lease another 25 MDX Advance (or a Type S , but the MPGs forces resistance). I'm really liking the new Refreshed MDX - especially with a new InfoT. system getting rid of the TTIP. FWIW, The SH-AWD is one of, if not The best in the Business.

If I had my druthers it would be a performance hybrid, plug-in, with a distinct tilt to electric operation with sustained electric highway travel and more than 30 electric miles around town with over 400 miles combined total highway range. Probably that means a straight 4, making room up front for a substantial electric motor and maybe even some battery. Every time there’s a naturally aspirated engine in a new car it’s met with universal criticism. Is there a reason the reliability topic seems to be off limits?

    Things they should have added or removed: all that black piano needs to go, and the second row needs more venting as does the third row. Second-row cool/ventilated seats need properly stitched leatherette on the under door panel it shouldn't cost more its at $76k it needs to have that. Make it a mild hybrid that might give a better mpg. The non-types Advance and Apec Advance are literally $70k just make turbo v6 the standard powertrain and make the type s a high output or make it a PHEV I wouldn't say V8 since only the Germans are the only ones with V8 left. If you care about fuel economy you shouldn’t even be shopping in this category
    To those naysayers who say “luxury car shoppers do care about fuel efficiency”, you’re wrong. Just flat out wrong
    Do you see people in vehicles like the m3, m5, e63, x3m40i, x5M, Hellcat, SRT, Demon, C8 Corvette, GT500, etc etc. crying about fuel economy as if it’s life threatening? Do you see them pulling their hair out because they only get 13-16mpg?
    No you don’t. Why? Because it doesn’t even matter
    If you want the ultimate luxury of fuel economy and not having to stop at the gas station all the time, there’s a Prius or Camry hybrid with your names on it. Who’s even going to say “if I want high fuel economy, I’m not gonna buy a Prius. I’ll buy a 75-100k luxury car”

    • @blackgold754

      Bro, I disagree. It is possible to have a car that is fuel efficient and luxury. Crown signia limited, Prius prime limited or xse premium, Hyundai sonata hybrid limited, Tucson limited, Santa Fe limited are some of the luxury fuel efficient car. This is like saying “if you want more power, buy a fast car, not hybrid”. Guess what? Prius prime is powerful and is also an efficient car along with its regular hybrid counterparts. Many luxury car shoppers do care about fuel economy which is why they get these trims. Those who don’t are like you, who have accepted luxury cars simply can’t be fuel efficient when they absolutely can. Hell even BMW has phevs for heck’s sake.
      Not to mention, even lucid air is a BEV and that is expensive. A lot of old people and even younger people would definitely prefer MDX with a hybrid power train. Hell even Lexus is a luxury brand that has expensive hybrid and plug in.Model Like Lc hybrid, NX hybrid, and RX plug in hybrid and UX hybrid etc.

    • @blackgold754
      @blackgold754 Місяць тому +2

      Oh and m3, m5, corvettes aren’t luxury cars lol. They’re sports exotic cars. Also corvette does have hybrid too. Sure it’s not fuel efficient but the fact that it even has a hybrid for parking lot speed makes a difference. And yes those mfs do cry about fuel economy and then continue to drive these sports car knowing gas prices are expensive lol. So if there’s a tech where you can put hybrids on cars enough to make it powerful and a balance of better fuel economy, even those fools would appreciate it lol.
      Also I like $20-$25k is a huge difference and doesn’t matter if you’re rich or regular income. From a rich man’s perspective, sure might not be that much but on a grand scheme of things price differences are huge. I see that you say fuel economy shouldn’t be a concern but A. There are already other fuel efficient luxury cars and some Lexus and BMW models are great example. B. If fuel economy weren’t a concern, people and specifically ACURA buyers wouldn’t even bring it up 9n the first place !!!
