We have a 2018 MDX with the Tech package (in Canada). It definitely drives very well, it's safe with SH-AWD. We bought it January 2020, with 62,000 kilometers for $38,500 (Canadian dollars obviously). We felt it was a pretty good price. This latest model, like everything else, has gotten way overpriced. It's a "7 seater"...but no one has ever sat in either of the back two seats, really they're useless. With the mediocre gas mileage of our MDX, we are thinking of trading it in for a CR-V hybrid.
I wish they had air vents in 2nd and 3rd row in the ceiling or up high. Now the the middle of the 2nd row folds there’s more airflow to the third row but they really could have put air vents back there
What is that color? We are leaving to go pick up our new 2025 MDX Spec A in about two hours. That color was not an option on any of the versions of the MDX, but I like it.

You asked about a spare. Acura has been selling an add-on spare for a while now ( have one on my 22 RDX ). Clearly this is the case for this MDX, as it has the pop out under the floor cover where the spare tire is released.
I agree that the third row is not as good as a lexus TX, but the added size of the latter means it is even more of a struggle to park, won’t fit in a standard garage and ends up outside… and that means where I’m from it’s going to get stolen and will be seen on the news somewhere in Africa with my license plates still on it 😕

Acura MDX reliability has gone down a ton.. there are a lot of issues once you go past the 70k miles. Most common issue is the transmission failure after 60-70k miles that will rip you off, easily 7-9k damage for a replacement.
No mention of the Mazda cx-70/90 is crazy. A loaded model is 58k with a premium interior AND more HP than this type S, you also get the same Japanese reliability. The gloss black fender trim is cheap looking on this.
75k is a lot. For an extra 20k, you can get an Audi SQ7 with over 500hp and that’s a powerhouse. Plus it’s 10 times more fun to drive. If one doesn’t need the 7 passenger, the X5 is a perfect SUV to buy.
Lmfao…are you serious ? German brands are also unreliable endless money pits that will cost you a life insurance to maintain them…you left that part out.

Gorgeous car- nice review buddy.
Glad they kept the exterior design and get rid of the infotainment pad. Great positioning in the market considering Honda/Acura reliability.
Really bad placement of the wireless charger next to the cup holders. Phone and charger should be nowhere near liquids and possible spills.
where else would you put it
And majority of phones are water/liquid resistant
I love the fit and finish of these vehicles. I just wish it offered more performance, I'm still content with my Edge Sport as far as how it's equipped and performance.
Reviewers often drive the Type S. Does anyone know the sales breakdown between the regular MDX and the type S? The price delta is pretty severe.
It’s a 31 speaker bang and olufsen system in the type-s the rest get the 19 speaker system
Can’t believe it only has 31 speakers. If only it had 57, it would actually sound good
@@jwltiger3357 ridiculous, they should’ve just put a Bluetooth speaker instead since they want to be stingy
That price jump 😢
Inflation
You asked about a spare. Acura has been selling an add-on spare for a while now ( have one on my 22 RDX ). Clearly this is the case for this MDX, as it has the pop out under the floor cover where the spare tire is released.
I agree that the third row is not as good as a lexus TX, but the added size of the latter means it is even more of a struggle to park, won’t fit in a standard garage and ends up outside… and that means where I’m from it’s going to get stolen and will be seen on the news somewhere in Africa with my license plates still on it 😕
I own a Lexus TX and it easily fits in my garage.
@@CK-1000 it doesn’t in ours. I measured it out and there is no way the door will close unless I pin it right into the back wall. Our neighbor down the street traded in their old Highlander for a new Grand Highlander now sits on the street in front of their house because it won’t fit in their detached garage in the back lane 🤷♂️
@@Fabulousprofound168 dang that sucks. Obviously garage size depends on the builder, the area, type of home, age of home etc etc. But yeah the TX fits in our garage with 6 or 7 feet to spare.
@@CK-1000 my garage is way too small, it barely fits my type R, and it was "only" built in 1986
@@ShaiyanHossain I honestly forgot how small garages are in older homes. And the 80s was an era before gigantic SUVs became a thing
I have always liked the styling of the MDX. The biggest flaws to me are: Price - too high, very cramped third row - why bother?, and very dismal fuel economy when compared with the hybrid versions of Highlander, Sienna, Outlander. However, thanks for the great effort of your videos.
I am 6'5" and fit in the 3rd row for giggles with my son. The key is to slide the 2nd row chairs up using the bar underneath the seat.
Glad I decided on a 2020 over the new generation. Only thing I wish I had was the 10 speed but supposedly they worked out the 9 speed issues before my year.
If they are gonna make a sport model, idk why they didn’t just go twin turbos on this instead of one. Especially on a v6
Yes I like that a 6 is still available and yes they need to get rid of the piano black too hard to keep clean, but overall a very nice package.
This looks like a nice blend of a Subaru Forester, Audi and Toyota SUV with some big muscles under the hood.
Why didn’t you put it on the rollers Tommy? You’re losing your way with these videos.
I’m in a 2018 MDX but I was considering the Mazda CX90 or the Type S, I think I’m sold on the Type S.
decision not to do mdx hybrid was a major strategic flop for Acura/Honda
So far only saw one person notice this. In the Type S, you get a 31 speaker "B&O Ultra Sound System". In all other MDX models (except Base) you get a 19 speaker "B&O Premium Sound System". Minor feature, but I'm sure it makes a difference. Also, you have full control of the side bolsters in the driver and passenger seat. Im a relatively small guy (5'8" ~135) and I was hugged quite aggressively.
I like my 2008 Acura MDX. 300 hp. Should last me a long long time. Will probably give it to my grandson's grandson's grandson.
Hopefully Tommy's new wife will require him to keep his hair cut and clean.
Personal grooming tips from the peanut 🥜gallery. How nice.
Tommy, you need to remember you're a professional. Dressing like you are painting the hallway isn't what a pro should look like.
What happened to the exhaust demo lol
Why no spare tire
Run flat tires
I like MDX had a 2013 now have a 2020. The type s my only issue is to have that type s badge it should have at least 400 hp. If it was a little faster I would definitely get one
Hopefully the tuning on the 10spd is better than it is in my ‘24 Pilot. It has the worst trans tuning of any car I’ve ever owned. 😢
buy a zf8 product
I have a 22 mdx and the transmission is completely ass. They say in the Type S it’s retuned for faster shifts but idk how much that helps.
$20k is quite a bit of money though
personally at the $95k mark I'm going BMW x7 for a hauler.
Lmfao…are you serious ? German brands are also unreliable endless money pits that will cost you a life insurance to maintain them…you left that part out.
Always easy to talk about 30 or 40 grand when it is somebody else's money.
You can get the X5 really nicely built for 72, This Acura seems to be over priced in my mind. Especially compared to the X5 which now is compared to the Toyotas and Acuras for reliability .
and I like it that you can have with different leather options or wood options or metal options inside and if you want it with carbon parts inside and different wheel options like the European Luxury Cars 👍
No way! Hey, you’re rich so you can buy me one Tommy. Great video.
21 mpg hwy is awful this day and age. The Explorer ST makes 45 more hp and gets 26 hwy, and it's 10 grand cheaper and RWD based.
True but it is garbage.
@gordonschiff3621 Tell me why it's garbage instead of blanket statements. I gave several reasons why it's not garbage.
I like the ST, but no big ecoboost gets great mpg. And if you baby it, why did you get the ST in the first place?
You get eco or boost…not both. Staple of the engine line for the last 13 years now.
@@SteveLord Sort of like the old racing adage: Good, cheap & fast. Pick any two.
Acura used to be reasonable price-wise. Now it’s as ridiculous as everything else. I had my 2005 TL for 110,000 miles.
The S type has 31 speakers, not 19.
The new B&O uses cheaper speakers than older ELS. B&O are literally cheap Chinese speakers. They say made in China on them.
@@ryanb8736 Buicks and Polestars are made in China. Being made in China in and of itself does not mean inferior. However, I’d take a car made in America with Chinese speakers over an entire car made in China any day.
@@FirstHillSeattle Acura cut back on manufacturing costs. That’s a bad thing. That means all the great companies helping manufacturer parts for this are now made in China. Not just the speakers.
lol…German brands will cost you an extra 20/30k to maintain them since they are so unreliable . Are you not factoring that in ? German brands don’t match Japanese reliability and long term resale. Any professional car journalist would tell you this. German cars are leased and Japanese brands are bought. Let that sink in!
MDX should have option of no 3rd row but more second row room. We are shopping now for a vehicle in this class. Wife loves the MDX, but this is the main drawback. We would use it for road trips and with a tall teenager sitting in the second row, seems a bit cramped.
If this had the second row legroom of the Telluride I would have bought it. Fold that 3rd row flat too
Why won't Honda/Acura offer a tow package with this type S model? They forget about the many campers out there. And don't just give me a 5000 lbs rating. It needs to be 7500. Putting the better option for me is a Toyota Sequoia.
The Sequoia has no trunk nor a flat folding third row. Gotta look to the Germans for that 7,500lb+ tow rating and factory tow hitch. Also the Grand Cherokee.
Thanks 4 the recommendation.
@@jasoncochran853 my 2019 Q7 had a higher payload capacity (although slightly lower towing capacity) than my 2018 suburban. I always thought that was funny. Now I’d feel more confident towing with the suburban due to being a “truck” and having a longer wheelbase but the numbers still shocked me. I know the Q7, GLE, and X5 all fall within that slightly less than 8k lb tow capacity. I’ve also had a 2016 and 23 X5, they were both amazing and I couldn’t say enough great things about them.
Since we're in the mood to talk... I was actually thinking about an SQ7. But the last time I took my A6 TDI to audi, they were charging $400 an hour for labor, Ridiculous! I have 2 🛻 trucks, too, both capable of pulling our 22ft camper @ 4800 pounds. I just want Honda to hear my complaint. They've been slipping as far as I'm concerned. Toyota builds products for people that wanna camp an Honda doesn't but claim they do. I wish they would-
That color is beautiful
When will people realize these cars are not worth nowhere near $76,000 maybe $50,000 for the type S! Car pricing is way out of hand but it won’t stop til people start leaving these cars to rot on lots.. But to many unintelligent folks just keep handing money over to these corporations!
$76.5 is insane for an MDX. I would get an R1S, X5 ,Q7 or GLE for that kind of money.
lol…German brands will cost you an extra 20/30k to maintain them since they are so unreliable . Are you not factoring that in ? German brands don’t match Japanese reliability and long term resale. Look at the reliability ratings of an x5 vs mdx on consumer reports…
@@brianprice1531 bmw may have one lucky year, but it takes decades to earn a reliability reputation. Having 1 good year does not match decades of superior reliability from Acura and Lexus.
Thank you
I've seen 5 reviews of this very car, acura won't let any of them actually drive it... Lol
2025 MDX type-s will be UA-cam driven in due time. Lots of 2024 reviews out there though. It's a normal model year update...hint, hint...it hasn't changed much.
3:41 love how the hood is crooked
At first, it looked light blue. That’s not an available color, but maybe it should be.
Your body language is hysterical
I mean this really has no competition with regards to what you said, the amg are way more money and M sports
Because they're way better. This isn't even close.
2025 advance looks much better from every angle, this is sporty but you end up paying more for the tubor NA v6 is much better willl last longer!!
No spare.. Wow!! .. The Mazda Miata don't have a spare either.. but it's a lot smaller car and this is a family car.
These vehicle is a great ride reliable the SH S Types has beaten The X5 in the 1/4 miles on my working on getting my 2nd From my 2016 with 200,000 miles no issues
Always buy CPO. There’s no reason ppl should be spending that type of money on a car. You would probably get this for about 50k after it’s returned from lease. I wouldn’t mind having this car in 3 years with under 40k for 26k less. I’ll let someone else eat that depreciation.
Thanks for closing the right side of the hood, it was bugging me. 😊
Gas mileage is a joke. CX90 is better.
Why is this 1970s enamel bathtub paint color so popular now? I don't get it.
Thank you!
Retro bathroom chic?
How does it stack against Audi Q8
Q8 is only a 5 passenger. It feels a little more athletic. X5 is another great performer for same price. Get the base B58. Awesome drivetrain in that.
@@ryanb8736 x5 is two row only, otherwise i agree
A fine car if it was introduced 8 years ago.
The info screen doesn't look very good.
This car is over price
You are correct. All the cars are overpriced!
Good lord they failed on the screen still being above the dash
The biggest surprise for 2025 MY is the 30 year old engine wuth a timing belt under the hood of all but the highest nobody buys it trim.
$76K is way too much money. Auto manufacturers need to lower their pricing. So they took space from the second row to get some space in the third row. Not a fan! There are much better options out there. A fulll EV would be a much better option.
Allow me to show you our Cadillac Lyric clone ZDX on the other side of the showroom.
Or even better, the Nissan Ariya EV for a lot less money. $185.mointh with $0 down for 24 months.
For that price, the interior needs to be more current. That dash is unfortunate.
I would pay extra to get one DE-GOOGLED. Can you imagine how much they make selling driving details if not also personal info?
I don’t care
Great price, for a premium vehicle.
75k and no power folding seats? 🤔
Surprisingly don't see them much at all here in SF bay area. Everyone is driving Model Y or X. See a lot more GX460/470 that this MDX. Personally I take GX550 over this and I am a Honda guy.
I thought I was gonna get a GX550 until I sat in it. The use of space is atrocious. It feels about as big as an FJ Cruiser even though it is enormous on the outside. Ended up going MDX simply for space for our family.
Thirsty engine. They should start looking at hybrid powertrains. Digital cluster looks dated. It's time for Acura to step up to the plate and start giving more offerings.
I thought it was a 31 speaker ???
The third row is a minus, it needs space like hyundai palisade and extra luxury like genesis gv80 prestige
76 is crazy
MDX is better buy than BMW. They gona hold value better than BMW and not gona be money pit.

Your dad's picture !
I will give credit as the instrument cluster is integrated into the dash but then they, like many, epic fail by lazily bolting a tablet to the dash. These interior designers are so disappointing.
Acura sells 40-50k a year which is fine.
