@jcrexyzilla4235 Of course, the ultimate is going to be the best, but it's not for everyone. If it's just going to be used around a yard, a bl-2s would be good. If you have more area to use it, then you might want to go faster and get a VXL. For the best handling and already upgraded, then get the ultimate. The Ultimate and VXL are the same top speed. So it's more up to your situation. If you are new to the hobby, you can put all of these in learning mode, which gives you half the power and speed. Just in case you are worried about having too much power in the beginning. So you can limit the fast ones, but you can't make the slow one faster unless you change the motor and speed controller.
@@OverBudgetRCthank u for the recommendation, I might get the vxl or ultimate for just driving around my street and front yard because there is more area
This is a very well done comparison. Not just showing all things on one car, next car etc. No, one thing, all the cars, next thing, all the cars. Much much better to compare that way.
Exactly right! Bought the BL-2S because of the heavy duty parts but just broke a rear drive shaft just doing speed runs on 2S doing 35mph. I hope that's just a fluke because the next step up is the $80 9052R steel driveshaft set!
I am shocked those look so beefy. I didn't even think they would need to be upgraded. If you do upgrade, MIP X duty might be a little cheaper. That's what I use buts its been a while since I bought them, and they probably went up.
@@OverBudgetRC I don't know if MIP has released one that fits the new caster blocks and carriers yet? My Ultimate has the Traxxas steel driveshafts - front and rear. BTW, the new Stampede will also include the 540XL motor along with the extreme duty parts!
Which slash do you prefer more? Planning to get one as my first traxxas and chose the slash models since my area is on road, im looking for the one with better suspension and i dont know which one is better since im new to the hobby
@face3754 I would prefer the ultimate. The ultimate is going to be the best, but it's not for everyone. For smaller areas a bl-2s would be good. If you have more area to use it, then you might want to go faster and get a VXL. For the best handling and already upgraded, then get the ultimate. The ultimate would be the best on road because of the low center of gravity. The Ultimate and VXL are the same top speed. So it's more up to your situation. Since you are new to the hobby, you can put all of these in learning mode, which gives you half the power and speed. Just in case you are worried about having too much power in the beginning. So you can limit the fast ones, but you can't make the slow one faster unless you change the motor and speed controller.
Buy a Bl-2s and put a vxl system in it, aluminum shocks/towers fill with 40wt and stainless steel turnbuckles. You have what is better than a slash ultimate
Be careful with a steel spur gear I was running my 4x4 slash on 3s with a 4500kv 4 pole it broke a few teeth off the pinion so I put in a new pinion, I have a ton of them, with in two minutes it broke the teeth on another pinion so I knew something was wrong so I tore it down and when the first pinion broke it bent the shaft on the motor. I went back with a plastic one and I’ve been running 4s some and does well. I also bought a BL2s 4x4 and put in a Spektrum 3s set up and I soldered bullet plugs on the BL2s motor and ran it in another Slash on 3s and it really rips so if you buy one just swap out the esc mine has taking a beating and still going.
It can handle a vxl or hobbywing system on 3s you may just have to change the center driveshaft to aluminum if you upgrade the motor and speed controller.
If I had seen this comparison I would have just gone with the ultimate. I didn't know the chassis was that different. I got the VXL and it would have been nice to have a lower CG cause I roll mine all the time in my culdesac and down my street. I wonder if the chassis is easy to retrofit. Edit: Apparently there's a kit! Gonna get it!
Ya Ill be posting a lot of videos from all of those. Then I have to part them all out and sell them I can't afford to keep them all 😔😪 . I want to keep the Raptor but I'm not sure yet.
I think that update is just a couple of months away. The rustler 4x4 ultimate is already upgraded. So they just need to get rid of the old stock before they release it. I think thats why they are on sale.
I'm curious why the center driveshaft on the ultimate is exposed, I feel like having it covered will prevent dirt and rocks from obstructing it, but maybe it doesn't matter all that much.
Does anyone know how much can you raise the Ultimate chassis? I want the out of the box upgraded parts but I need a little more ground clearance for jumping. Ideas?
@@ManSplaining1 You can tighten up the preload on the shocks to gain a little bit of clearance but you wouldn't want to go too high, you will lose some handling. I have pretty much the same chassis set up on my backslash and I jump that thing 30 feet in the air no problem.
You missed the differences in the drive trains! The Ultimate has got quite a bit more going on when it comes to drive teaines and in my opinion, the most exciting difference.
What differences? Between the vxl and ultimate, they're the same The motors are the same. The differentials are the same. The center drive shaft is the same. The axles are the same. The bl-2s has the better axles.
@@OverBudgetRC But they're not the same. Crack open a 4x4 diffs and then crack open the Ultimate and tell me what you see! Or is the Platinum only? That would be "the highest level you can get."
@elichiricuzio4735 I looked up the exploded views, and they are identical. The platinum had a center differential that was included but you had to install it yourself. But the platinum has been discontinued.
@@OverBudgetRC There's an upgraded diff in the Platinum. I'm getting ready to swap some parts around on my Platinum and Ultimate and will take some pics. Not sure how I'd post them but will let you know what I find. I think the Ultimate has the same upgraded diff too. Discontinued?! Bummer.

Have you looked at the Rally Slash? I own all the others and the Rally is my favorite. It's smooth, I think faster and still takes jumps like a Slash.

Got the vxl as my first rc had gas one before but moved to battery powered because its more fun to drive
@marcojr2002 Nice. I had a nitro before but I just got tired of tuning them.
Nice review..i have the new bls 2s..enjoying coz less parts to break on a mild power
Thank you. Ya that bl-2s looks pretty beefy it should be hard to break.
The ultimate is the way to go, as long as you have a little more space on the credit card, haha. Larry
@leapnlarry 🤣 of course its the best but it's $200 more. I'd still buy it lol
