I was raised in Northern Minnesota & spent much of my life in the woods around Hibbing. I can say from ample experience that the weirdest things to be found in the great north woods are folks from the cities.

I'm a lifetime MN resident, and woodsman. For what it's worth I strongly confirm the presence of the "weird" in the wild. I've seen and heard things that just can't be explained. I'll also say I'm sure they were followed right up to their car, and likely a while after they started driving.
What other weird things have you experienced other than potential sasquatch?
@@Tom_McMurtry I went fishing on the nueces in south Texas. It's damned up so there's a big embankment. About 50 ft on each side. Pretty steep bank. Bare except for a few small trees. But large trees line the top of the bank. The trail cuts through the trees at the top and goes down towards the bank and opens up. So one night about 11pm I get down there. About a mile walk through the woods to get to this spot. Arms full of gear and my ice chest, I make it there and start setting up. About a minute after getting my line in the water, a loud whack crashes behind me. Scares the poop out of me. I whip around and just stare at the tree line. No sound for about 30 seconds. I turn around, and start thinking of what mundane thing it could've been. And not a minute after turning around another WHACK!. Like a log smacking a tree. Hard. This time I turned on my high beam and started cussing and yelling at the tree line. Full of bluster and threats. I stopped to listen. And then it hit every tree on the treeline going all the way down the river to as far as I could hear, getting quieter and quieter, then made its way back. Louder and louder till it was right behind me. As fast as dominoes. Just WHACK WHACKWHACKWHACKWHACK!!!!!! I left. Quickly. And without further incidence. Took my gf out there a while after that and we heard knocking again. Though not like what I heard previously.
I grew up on the iron range and now live by Duluth. The noises in the woods have never really bothered me, but when it's dead silent that's a different story. The silence in the woods up here is much more unnerving than weird grunts and growls.
I've been up on the trails and back roads in that area on the Superior hiking trail. Those are some pretty large tracts of land with some densest forests in the lower 48 and one can easily get lost in them.. There are a lot of little no name lakes and marshes up in that area and not too many homesteads or cabins. That said, I find it hard to believe any living creature can just "glide" through a marsh. If you've ever had to slog through even a shallow one you would know that is not an easy task. My guess is it was a lone timber wolf following them, but they probably heard a moose in distress which wondered out of it's normal range and they let their imaginations run away with them and put the two events together. That lone wolf might have been stalking them out of curiosity with no intention of an attack. Sometimes they do that. You see them occasionally up there and for the most part they are indifferent to humans. I know, coming back to Duluth from Grand Marais at 6a on hwy 61, I had to wait 10 mins. while a lone male sat in the middle of the road trying to decide whether he wanted to head to the lake or back into the woods. Even the honking of my car horn didn't budge him. It was like I wasn't even there and the size of my Jeep didn't impress him at all. I didn't floor it and make him move the hard way because I'm from here and we don't do that shit or take our wildlife for granted or think of them as a nuisance.

A healthy respect for nature is essential up here, and a strong sense of direction.
I've seen one in the past about 3 years ago. Starring at me through the bushes for a good 10 minutes. I played dumb and kept casting my fishing line while starring at it. Not sure what it was thinking. It was a weird and awkward experience. Been in the woods alone many times before but I now try to keep aware of my surroundings. I also don't go in the woods unless I'm with another person. Safery in numbers. Your a really good story teller. Great show!

I live in northern Minnesota and am very familiar with Silver Bay. I love hearing stories from up here. Keep them coming!
I had friends living about 10 miles north of Lake Superior about halfway between Two Harbors and Duluth. The Sucker River ran through their property. They had some men working on a small cabin out in their woods along the river. They were also experienced woodsmen. They had an encounter one evening after dark and I remember they had heard crashing through the woods and were very shook up. I don’t remember the rest of the details, but I find your story incredible as it’s really not that far from my friends.

I think Chris is also the guy you’d want in your foxhole, if things went badly south..you’re more likely to survive; he’s a good outdoorsman and I think, he would also keep his head.
I think when the worst of winter comes, it would be just as atmospheric & entertaining to see you tell your stories inside a nice, snug indoor room lit by a crackling fireplace. It's your stories & style of delivery which are the best parts of these videos after all.

Winter may make the logistics a bit harder but as you noted you've got options (the pop-up camper, etc), and frankly the conditions should only make the ambience better for these stories! This turning round in unfamiliar areas to remember landmarks is actually recommended in wilderness survival guides, so you are doing the right thing there. I do this too when I have to go somewhere unfamiliar. It always helps me to find my way back.
This is a common theme that Sasquatch just doesn't want people in the woods. I wonder why?

It sure is getting dark early now, same here in the UK. By 4pm it's getting dark. In December that will be 3pm, but if it's a dark and rainy day with lots of clouds it can get dark at 1.30pm. I really don't like that at all!
Keep safe, Chris, with it getting dark so early now - make sure you always look around to see what's around you, but I can see you are doing that. If you ever feel unsafe or you have a bad gut feeling - get out of there and don't worry about videos! We would rather have you be safe than encounter a bad situation!

@Little Kitty - its not the Tree People don’t want you in the woods, they don’t want you in there area where their family is. Usually when they chase you out of somewhere there is one or more of their young is in the area. And if someone has a gun and walks in their area they especially want you on your way! They know your intent, now it did not walk in front of them and scream directly at these guys, so it seems it wasn’t worried about their intent, but wanted to make sure they went to their car ASAP! Many stories of them helping lost people back to their car. Walking with you and steer you towards your car when you get lost in the woods.

True, I wouldn't like it either if some stranger ran around in my backyard. But when this happens - and it has happened a few times - then I don't terrify him or view him as potential supper! So far, all trespassers ran off before I could confront them, but at the most I would shout at them to shove off!

I've heard such stories too, about them helping people find back to their car. And saving people in distress. But there are other stories of them eating people, especially children! The tree knocks seem to be a sign of "dinner is served" when a human is around. Why do they save some people and eat others?

Great story from Up North…I’ve lived in Northern Minnesota my entire life…I’ve spent my whole life hiking backpacking camping and hunting our beautiful state…I can’t say I’ve seen Sasquatch…but most other large mammals we have here…darkness always makes noises seem more creepy and concerning…I’ve hiked the entirety of The Superior Hiking Trail and I will say there have been times when I’m alone on trail and I’ve had the intense feeling I’m being watched…animals for the most part don’t bother me…I understand I’m walking into their habitat and I expect them to be curious or protective depending on the situation but when the hair on the back of your neck stands up you get the goose bumps and something feels very wrong is my sign to keep moving!! Lots of Minnesota folks believe in Bigfoot…the small town of Remer claims to be The Home of Bigfoot and hosts Bigfoot Days…maybe if I’m lucky I’ll get to see the beast before my days walking in the forest are over🤞
Just the thought of those two guys having to hike back with the unknown footsteps nearby would be very intimidating. Glad they made it ok. Your location was nice and the sunset beautiful. We have lots of Canadian geese here in Wisconsin, so when they flew by, it was a very familiar sound. Another great story, Chris, with a beautiful fall backdrop. KH!

It is but I don’t live there anymore.
It had a center chimney with 5 fireplaces. The original fireplace crane and Dutch oven were still in the dining room. It had the very ripple-y glass in all the windows and wide pine floors throughout the house. There were Indian shutters that tucked in all the walls (to deflect arrows is my understanding) and an old smoke room on the landing of the front staircase. The chimney base was 12 foot square. There was a hidden room in the attic. It was originally built under a grant from King George (the 4th?). He decreed that no trees could be cut down that had a diameter of more than 12 inches because he wanted them for his warships. All the floors on the 1st and 2nd floors were about 12”wide but up in the attic there were boards that were almost a yard wide. 😂 I guess they respected government authority as much as we do! The town historian filled me in on this info. I found out my ancestors lived in the same town and there is a written account of them - Edward and Ichabod Robie being captured by Indians and managing to escape. I grew up in Michigan so this was a big surprise to me (my Mom was from Boston though so I had some info on other ancestors.)
Soak a sock or a kerchief in the creek and then wrap your beer can and put it in the shade.. cools tens times faster AND gets much cooler than the water. Love your vids! Been watching a few days and just about watched them all!!!!

I just moved from my nice apartment to a 5th wheel camper out in the middle of nowhere, deep in the woods, just me and my barn cat! Anyhow, been out here for 3 months and at night I always get "the willies", like I'm not alone lol. Every time I listen to these stories at night I have a REALLY hard time stepping outside AND I LOVE IIT!!! Great job, keep them coming! -spooked in NE Oklahoma

What a lovely sky as you walked out! I am thinking whatever you decide to do for winter stories will be just fine for all of us. Even your backyard is keen. I remember as a grade schooler in the 60s, we neighborhood kids would camp in my backyard sleeping in the homemade tent Mom made. Of course, we didn't stay in the backyard! She used the frame of an old swing set. The material was an almost florescent green with big colorful daisy flowers. What fun. You are a real treat, Basecamp Chris 🥰

My native friends from Grand Portage Mn on the North shore, say never whistle at night cause that creature will then be drawn to you….. the creature is taught as one of the seven positive attributes and its specific attribute for them n this creature is honesty……. Bigfoot to the Ojibwe equals Honesty

I had a similar experience.
It was morning and i was hunting a new area. The South side of a big swamp. I parked about a half mile from the swamp.
A light breeze was blowing east by North East. So I made a big loop around to the west so I could move slowly into the wind and hunt along the edge of the swamp.
I hoped to find a good spot to hang a tree stand for the afternoon hunt.
When I got close to the swamp I hit on a fire break that had been plowed around the edge of the swamp
It went in the direction I wanted to go and it made walking easy and quiet.
I hadn't gone but a short way when I came upon tracks in the wet bottom of the fire break. I was wearing rubber boots and the tracks were twice the size of my boot prints.
I followed the tracks to the edge of the swamp where there was a trail.
Just off the trail was a dead pine tree fallen over and learning on another tree. I could see that something had just ripped the bark off of that pine tree looking for the big white grubs that live under the
bark on dead pine trees.
My first thought was a black bear had done that. So I went over to the tree to have a look
I expected to see the narrow deep scratches a bear makes. But the scratches weren't narrow and deep
They were wide and shallow.
I didn't know what to make of it.
I went back to the trail and I followed the big footprints again.
They didn't go far when they turned off the trail and went into the swamp.
I wasn't going in there. It was very wet. My next step could have been ankle deep or waist deep.
Besides that it all looks the same up in that swamp. If a fellow gets turned around he has 40 square miles of swamp to get lost in
I bid the fellow with the big feet goodbye and went on up the trail a half mile or so and I found a place where game trails crossed. I watched that spot for several hours but saw nothing.
I went back to camp for lunch and a nap.
That afternoom I went back. The wind was the same so I made that same big loop to the west.
About the time I made the turn something from downwind of me roared. I've never heard anything like it. You could hear it for a mile.
I stood there five minutes listening to it. I could pinpoint where in the treeline the sound was coming from but I couldn't see anything.
While I stood listening I had time to reflect on my feelings about it all.
I had a high powered rifle and i made up my mind that if the thing charged me, I would defend myself as best I could. But really I didn't want to shoot it.
Putting all the pieces together I realized that it was one of those very rare creatures. And he was right
I was trespassing on his home territory. I figured that the best thing to do was go hunt somewhere else.
He had already scared off all the game anyway with all that roaring.
I never went back there.
I usually wait until bedtime to watch your videos, but I couldn’t contain myself and had to watch it now. Lol!! Thanks again Chris, I really appreciate the story. Keep them coming. Just a little side note, I just got back from Yellowstone and had a few local brews while I was there. If you get a chance pick up a six of Space Goat made by Montana brewing Co. it’s a real tasty American pale ale. Cheers!!

Cool! First time listener here who just happens to be in a State Forest in Minnesota about 90? miles South of Duluth(Lake Superior's Southern most point) and have been living in the forest in this spot for 2-1/2 months now., But have been living in 1 of 3 State Forests for 28 months now. Just last night while walking through the woods coming back from getting firewood and I thought about how I no longer ever get the "alone in the dark woods at night creeps" like most people do and I used to. I'm sure you've ruined that for me now. Ha, ha!
P.S. I Love, Love, Love all of the North Shore from Duluth to Grand Portage, particularly the 50 miles or so NorthWest of Grand Marais on the Gunflint Trail in Superior National Forest along the Southern edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
I went to Saint Olaf College; I’m from Seattle, but that accent, right away, told me exactly where you are from. What a great idea for a channel, looks like you are doing great. I grew up in northwestern Wisconsin and married the grandson of the family that founded the resort that used to be the center of Illgen City. He had lots of stories about black bears, wolves and the other wildlife on the Shore. I have lived on the Shore for over 40 years ever since we got married. I have hiked many of the State park trails, seen plenty of deer and moose and one black bear. I haven’t seen or heard anything like what these two guys experienced but I’m also not one to discount what they believe they saw. There’s too many sightings around the world and nationwide for there not to be some validity to the Sasquatch (yeti, mowglis, etc.) stories.

The story content is similar. but your presentation is very different, and that's why it's not the same as the other channel. You seem like a good guy, and an honest man. I love your videos and you are such a good story teller. Ive never saw anything but its so exciting to hear your stories. I mean theres something out there because theres so many stories of people having these experiences. Story telling is almost a lost art. Back in the days before t.v. and all the other technologies. Story telling was their way of entertainment and i bet some of the old timers could tell some big tales. Keep up the good work Chris.
Great story. I'm from the north shore. Lots of people have stories of encounters with bigfoot. Whether you believe that or not, I guess that's up to you.

all through the 90s, I ran an exhibit at the Duluth sports and travel show each February. It looked like what you would think the North Pole would look like if it were a city.

Just found this! Great story Chris, but now I’m going to somewhat paranoid as I walk around on my 125 acres in Lake County MN (That’s where the story takes place)! And yes, hunting grouse! I will be on the lookout for “IT”, and I always have a gun with me.
I first heard this story from friends who lived in Silver Bay 30 years ago. I always thought it was a load bull. But at least the details of the story remain the same. I got a little chill with your retelling of it. Thanks for the memory

I heard similar yells one time near Vermillion Bay in NW Ontario... was out on a lake with no cabins in the middle of nowhere, had to portage to get to this lake. It was similar to a man yelling but with such volume and power, I got the hell out of there lol
