Back in the 70’s, our family friends let offered the use their cabin up in northern Wisconsin on Lake Superior. Our neighbors spent A LOT of time at this old cabin in the summer, always spoke of how much fun they had when they were there, so naturally we were excited and glad that they were letting us use their cabin for three day weekend. Our family didn’t have much money back then, and could have never afforded to rent a cabin, let alone own one, so we were really thankful for this opportunity. Being a kid at the time, I had a fantasy of what I thought staying at this cabin would be like, and pictured lots of swimming, boating, & grilling etc. The fantasy was quickly dashed, it turned out the cabin was built in the 40’s or 50’s, and was very vintage, and so was the decor; it was like going back in time, while it was charming, and it did have electricity, there was NO running water or indoor plumbing! All water had to be hauled in. The cabin was probably 300 feet from the lake,& it was so wooded & overgrown, you couldn’t see much of the lake, just some blue hue thru the trees hear & there when the wind blew.. There was a long narrow wooded narrow path down to the lake and it opened up to a small rocky beach area; and even tho it was July, the water was ice cube cold and I only waded in, definitely no swimming! There were nearby neighbors and it was very private. FROM the time of arrival, the whole place gave me the creeps! I didn’t say anything to Mom, she seemed so excited to be able to give us this opportunity during summer vacation, that I didn’t want to hurt her feelings by sharing how scared I felt, just being there, and oh It had the creepiest vibe, was not well lit , and there was no natural light because of the overgrown trees. There was an outhouse about 75 from the cabin, with a big window in it facing the lake, like I said the place had a creepy feeling , like a “heavy” subtle feeling like something or someone was watching you; like you could turn around & expect to see someone there!. I was like 15 at the time we were there, and i didn’t relish the thought of hiking to that outhouse at night, but eventually I had to make the hike and that big window reflected the light of the flashlight & you couldn’t see ANYTHING but your own reflection, it was sooo spooky, ya wondered who could be watching you! And i definitely felt like someone was! The next day I finally told my mom the place just felt really creepy, and to my surprise, the whole family agreed & my Mom was the first to suggest we just pack up & head for home! And we did! Oh i was never so relieved to be leaving that creepy place! My Mom told a white lie to our neighbors, as to why we came home early, as not to offend them since they made us such a gracious offer. Years later Mom remarked that she instantly felt creeped out by the place too, and felt like something very dark, had occurred there, and that she only remained mum about it, because she thought we would disappointed if we left. Well, we couldn’t WAIT to get out of there! We never did find out if anything happened there, but something must have! Great sound effects in all your videos Chris. They really create an atmosphere. I enjoy stories like this one best, and ghost stories, especially when you are in the woods with your lantern. Fantastic entertainment. A UFO story sounds different and interesting. Worth a go. Please keep hiking. We love it!

I love to listen to any story you tell. My favorites are those of missing hikers, bigfoot, and camping adventures. Keep up the good story-telling and stay safe out there! Much love to you!
Great video, we camp all the time near Rhinelander, love the Northwoods area, Minocqua etc
Hello Chris loved the video I really want to see you do camping videos cause it helps people understand how to use those skills so if you can do more of those I would really appreciate it thank you
hi Chris, you're at it again, yes I like all of your subjects and like you're trailing off at the end. maybe one day in your videos a Bigfoot or flying saucer will surprise you. over and out be careful
Yay!!! Getting my Base Camp Chris fix!!!
Thank you Chris!
As far as storiesngo....ANYTHING you chose will be wonderful!
Thank you Carmen!
Hi Chris! I love your stories as we camp a lot in the Sierras, especially the Lost Sierra. Beer dropping in the creek is a great touch to your stories. I would love to hear more of the missing person ones. Cheers 🍻
Another Sunday night story! Thank you Chris
I love watching your videos. Makes me miss my 40 years of outdoor adventures.
Hey Kirk - Glad you like them! I'll be doing some more camping soon as well...
A great story tonight Chris!! I waited all day so I could sit and listen. Thanks for the great stories and I can’t wait to hear what you have in store for us viewers near Halloween time! 🙌 Stay safe on the trails! 😎
Hi Carla, I do have plans for Halloween!! :-O
@@basecampchris Yay!! I am so excited!! Fall/Halloween is my favorite time of year and great hiking weather!! 🙌🙌
@@carlasmith4769 it's my favorite time of year too!!!
To answer your question; our preferences: cryptids of all kinds! Bigfoot, etc. Oh - and when you give historical background to a creepy spot. Those are great, too. Thanks for this channel! You do a great job and we love that perfect mix of nature, a tad bit of creepiness, and camping. Thanks!
Thank you Chris, I look forward to your video s every Sunday evening - they are very interesting. Since you asked, my favorites are the Bigfoot, ufo and ghost stories but I find the missing person stories kind of sad. Hope this is helpful feedback.
Hey Chris, Awesome story as always. I swear I just have to comment on how fantastic your videos are, I mean every single detail you leave nothing out, from the very beginning to the very end with you walking away with the lanterns, plus the sound, just magnificent. I love your video technique, it makes your videos stand out from all others. I'm telling you these are professional-grade videos. I like any story as long as you're the one telling it. My favorite stories are the Bigfoot stories like today and Werewolf/Dogman stories, they are my favorite although I like any story you tell. I mean seriously you could make the story of The three little pigs intriguing, that's how awesome you are.
Thank you for all the hard work and time you put into these videos. They are amazing. Stay awesome
KEEP ADVENTURING
🤗HUGS🤗
As always thank you Susan for your kind words! KH!
Great story. I would like to hear stories about people going missing in the woods, it's a very fascinating subject.
Me too
Great video, Chris! I work in Rhinelander and am familiar with Lake George. A short hike to the South East of the Lake is the Pelican River. It is a Sasquatch hotbed. I have a coworker who has a lot of night time audio from along the river. Really scary stuff.
Wow...Thanks for the info!
🇸🇪👋🇺🇸
Sweden here. I just love the content on this channel. All stories you tell are truly fascinating, but for a wish, more of those strange disappearances. I also wouldn't mind more hiking tips, and reviews on gadgets that could be useful. 😄
I like the bigfoot, and ghost stories and missing persons. All your stories are great
You are so awesome and you make every child camping dreams comes to reality. Camping stories rulez.
I stumbled upon your channel last night. Was sitting out back enjoying the fire late night and started listening to the solo hiker who had his tent brought up into the tree by what he thought was a mountain lion. That story was so well told I had to start looking behind me. These are great man!
Hey Chris, I love it when I finish work on a Monday, get onto UA-cam and remember it's sit down with Chris time. This story was fab, you are a complete delight.
Thank you Susan!
Great sound effects in all your videos Chris. They really create an atmosphere. I enjoy stories like this one best, and ghost stories, especially when you are in the woods with your lantern. Fantastic entertainment. A UFO story sounds different and interesting. Worth a go. Please keep hiking. We love it!
I will keep going,,,Thanks !!
Thank You!!!! The Yuba 5 is scary! Takes place in the woods in Northern California. I just read the book!
Love that you're telling the stories in the dark again.
Glad you like them!
Chris, I love the beautiful scenery that you video on your channel! Fantastic story teller! You make it like we are there!
I appreciate that!
Awesome story and you told it well! Yes by the stream at night there is a lot of activity.. animals drinking and splashing 😳 thanks ! 😎
I love the glowing lantern! It makes the stories even better.
Thanks Hollow!
I would like to hear missing persons please. Also, another great story Chris. Liked, and Shared.
Great story Chris. The beer looks good too! Keep ‘em coming.
Thanks! Will do!
Thanks for all your research so we can be entertained! Love your videos.
I honestly love them all. Love how you tell them and where you tell them. Keep up the good work...

Ghost stories and Bigfoot are probably my favorite! Longer videos too more beer lol
