Playing self-propelled anti-air vehicles and denying CAS planes any victories is probably my favorite activity in War Thunder. Proximity-fuzed high explosive rounds are especially helpful for this, and the Chinese WZ305 is one of the first SPAA to get the. The WZ305 is basically a ZSU-57-2 with proxy, so it's great at destroying tanks as well as aircraft. It's probably the most satisfying SPAA I've used since vehicles with radar almost feel too easy sometimes. It's much more rewarding when you get the lead right yourself. I've seen some people saying the WZ is overpowered, but I don't think I agree. I hope Gaijin keeps it where it is, truth be told.

Remember that the chinese cancer wagon is 8.0 and 75mm Rooikat is 8.3 while being slower, doing less damage, lacking thermals and generally being a bigger target

The radkampfwagen sits at 9.7 without thermals and same huge size… okay it has dm33 but like really? Not like it matters cuz i mostly use it in my 10.0 or 11.3 lineup for flanks but still a bit confusing (it was 9.3 before and even 9.0 before that)

M41D is a joke. Most of the times at BR8.0, it's APFSDS performed badly because it has a tendency to overpen light tanks and heavy tanks with little post-penetration damage. But at top tier if you shoot the weak points of the Main Battle Tanks, it performed very well.
Step 1: Take WZ305 into battle.
Step 2: Take ZSU-37-2 aka Enisey with you in a squad.
Step 3: ask your 37-2 teammate to give you firing solution to lay your 57mm VT fuzed shells into.
Step 4: wake up and realize that this game doesn't support teamplay and vehicle retention outside SB.
PTL02 and WMA301 are some of the most under tiered vehicles at that BR range. Gen 2 thermals, good darts, very mobile, and the 301 even gets tandem warhead missiles along side a proxy HE shell.

While your not wrong they need to go up in BR, but for wheeled vehicles they are slow so if you put them any higher than 8.7 they'd get outpaced by MBTS and the fact they can't reverse faster than 7km and hour unlike other armored cars and you can HMG them from 800ms away it's kinda hard to balance them.

@@bobhiest7883 That's every wheeled vehicle. It's an inherent downside of the suspension. That doesn't somehow make it less lethal or it's reconnaissance abilities weaker.
The wma301 has to good of a gun for its BR
I really hate the PTL02, the fact that some players are defending it being 8.0 by saying its armor can be penned by HMGs and the cross country capability is poor. But who needs armor when u js shoot and scoot or most of the times just camp in the back, use thermals and pick on the 7.0 vehicles
My main gripe about playing it and the WMA is the awful gun depression, size, and that the Rooikats are just kinda better given what they fight at those BRs

I somehow non-pen it with the AMX-30's 20mm and even if I do pen it, the crew is so spaced out, and it's turret rotation so fast, you sometimes CAN"T kill it. I've put 105 HEAT into them and it does NOTHING because they're so spread out.
My defense would be that the chinese 8.0 lineup is absolutely terrible outside of the PTL and the WZ305 (type 59 being worse t55a at same br, type 69 having meme accuracy etc.), it kinda needs the PTL to be competitive.

If you’re the kind of person who learned how to shoot down planes with the M19 or M42, then the WZ305 basically turns you into an angel of death. Even 9.0+ aircraft needs to be wary of that thing.

I will say the chinese tech tree is absurdly fun. I never had such a painless grind going down a tech tree, your WW2 vehicles are all just the greatest hits albums from the US and Russia, and its premium vehicles at the higher tiers are honestly kinda busted. The ZTZ59A especially. Exact same rating as the type 59, only it gets a laser rangefinder and smokes otherwise its the same.
Unironically if you haven't, play the chinese tree. Seriously, its really fun. There are very few bad vehicles in it. Mostly the PT-76 as its the exact same BR as the russian counterpart only it doesn't get a stabilizer for whatever reason making playing it much more difficult. I've still had good success with it, it still has the heat-fs that really only lets you pinpoint take down crew members but still can frontally pen a tiger 2 in places.
Basically Gaijjin realized that no one wants to play the CCP and now are tryna undertier the living shit out of it

It might have just been a tank I didn't gel with, but the stock grind was awful. Even when unlock the better round with explosive filler, it's hard to kill anything because it's 0.3 of a br higher than the tank before it.
I really hate the tank, but it's kind of needed to make a lineup, but again it might just be a vehicle I either don't gel with or have seriously bad luck in.
@@VenomGamingCenter I mean it's still a Sherman, the stock shell sucks but the M61 is really good. Once you get it, it's just a second Sherman to run along with the rest of your 3.7 vehicles. It is kinda awkward it's your only 4.0 vehicle but its not a big deal.

Still if that's the bar for one of the worse off vehicles in the Chinese tech tree that's still significantly better then a lot of other nations.

Yeah, the PTL is over powered as all hell at its BR. That thing does fine even at 11.0 as a backup or flank and spanker.
If you want some lower tier CAS fun, try the ZSD63 in the Chinese tree. It has decent mobility and a really high rate of fire. It recently had its reload time nearly halved to 13 seconds. I use it for when I get "Bird Hunt" for a battle pass task. Remember to use short bursts of fire with this one.
Spookston, you managed to miss the fact that the PTL02 has an APFSDS round as standard, you were using HEAT-FS the entire time. Also the PTL, at 8.0 is functionally identical to the WMA301 at 8.3 except for gun size. PTL is a 100mm, the WMA is 105mm which also has a gun fired tandem warhead ATGM AND a Proxy round.
I didn't miss it, the default APFSDS sucks. It only has 220mm of flat pen. I wouldn't have been able to kill that hull-down M60 with it.
He was using heatfs coz that stock apfsds is just painfully bad. And thanks to laser rangefinder you have no problem with hitting stuff with heat so yeah...

Penetration of the shell does not matter when the armor is variable thickness
The trick to playing anti-cas is to play in squads. That way your squad's tank aura draws in more cas for you to kill. My brother and I do that and he always ends up with like 4-5 planes killed every other game. It's awesome, he's so good at AA I love playing with him.
China has, dare I say it, the strongest 8.0/8.3 line up in the game, probably ever. TOW-2B at 8.3, the WMA301 gets a Tandem with Gen 2 Therms, T-69-II is absurdly better than the ZTZ59 even tho they're very similar. I could write an essay on this but China is OP and I love it so much.
Now they have also the Object 122 MT haha at 8.3
I dunno I feel like a lot of people are underestimating the Chinese tree. The only enemy this tech tree has is time, as warthunder gets more an more modern the Chinese tech tree is probably going to be one of the most diverse in the game. The only nation where you have the possibility of having F16s, Flankers, possibly mirages, all available in the same tree? I’m in for the long haul, they will be a super power 🗿
I'd gladly play that SPAA because I simply love proxy shells but I am not going to grind for the rest of my life just for that one vehicle

From my experience using the normal russian 57-2, I can definitely say that getting the shells near the target is fairly easy, but getting a direct hit is very hard. Thinking about the chinese one having proxy shells makes me jealous sometimes.
This thing is easily the strongest SPAA at 8.0, a gepard may be scary when you are in the air, but a wz is true fear. It could shoot at you at any time from anywhere and instantly kill you.
Gepard is garbage, as are all the other gepard-related spaas. Easily countered and avoided even when directly attacking them. The only real danger from the ground are wz and swedish veak, proximity shells are almost always a guaranteed death sentence for your plane.
From a couple of kms you can dodge other radar SPAA, you can switch heading (up and down will work) but that thing is a one shot monster, most times I get sniped by that thing I either dont see attack or I was already dodging a gepard/ZSU/veak/whatever.
The M163 is at the same tier, does not havr search radar, weak 20mm, cant defend itself, exposed gunner, no thermals

The OS2U is another one of those "so bad they removed it" vehicles that now you can only unlock after getting to Tier II. I'd like you to try it in air or ground RB rather than naval.

Finland developed its own prototype of the ZSU called the ZSU-57-2M, it added a radar in addition to programmable ammunition. It would be interesting to see it in the game.

To me airplanes basically ruin every gamemode and the only ones that find combined arms a fun thing are the pilots or the people with functional spaa's
It would be cool, but I am vehemently against it. Even though I'm more of a flyboy it's blatantly obvious that doing this would screw over America and the other nations with decent CAS but no good tanks. Literally every American tank is below average compared to their German or Russian contemporaries. I'd rather gaijin just tweak plane spawn costs so that there isn't a "plane o-clock", then rebalance spaas such as the r3 or the new BTR so planes aren't unplayable.
@@serch3ster Look at their tanks around 5.3-7.7. Most of their tanks are near point-and-clickable and although they have good post pen, they usually have to aim for weakspots. Most of their good tanks are either heavy tanks with long reloads and okayish armor or light tanks, and they fall into the br Black Hole otherwise known as 6.7 where they see constant upstairs to 7.7 and get point and clicked. Compared to Germany or Russia, the tanks fall far shorter than desired (why is the t26e5 considered comparable to a king tiger?), not to mention they're generally expensive thanks to their 7k repair costs. They're also missing a decent anti air past 4.7.
Tl;Dr
America gets point and clicked without being able to do the same while also being expensive to play due to repair costs.

Repair costs are just a bad way of balancing the game, its a money making tool. They see people playing the tank alot, say its powerfull (eventho it isnt) and then they make you go bankrupt for playing the fun tanks.
the T34 is a really good tank within the 5.3.-7.7 line-up, and most of the tanks within this bracket are decent.
They arent the worst but they're also not the best and america isnt a faction that can complain about this BR range, look at japan for example their tanks basically cannonfodder.
@@scalewings7165 Yeah, most of the minor nations are unbalanced on both ends of the spectrum. Out of the big 3, America is the one that suffers the most though. The T34 and M56 are practically the only two tanks I can think of in that bracket that are in any way reliable. There is next to nothing I can do frontally to a tiger iih using any medium though, and even the t26e5 and t26e1 struggle. America constantly gets the short end of the stick (even in the air) so it gets tiring seeing all their stuff overtiered.

And also some tanks are just not playable due to air being a thing.
For example all the open topped tanks and alot of the "topped tanks" aswell

So without planes you can finally play these tanks.
Funny the Bagel got BR increased because people complained about the proxy at 8.3, but this thing is even more ridiculous. IT'S NOT FINE MATE, how can you say that?! This has 2 FUCKING 57'S, the Bagel had 1!!!! You never said the Bagel was fine where it was when it didn't had STAB, so why is this different? This thing is atrocious because it can reach 7.0 matches. It kills anything!
Try playing the Leo 2PL but only using the HE shell
from my experience on ptl02 it shouldnt be 8.0 but it also shouldnt be any higher than 8.7 and even that is pretty rough for it, it has piss poor accuracy, unreliable post pen dmg and very bad mobility on cross terrain
You know what I'm going to be honest sometimes I get in the mood where I just want to drive around in an AA vehicle and just light up the size of tanks or take out other AA vehicles by going a thousand miles an hour in one of the low rank Russian trucks with the big ass AA cannon on the back, like I am almost 100% sure I've gotten almost 150 tank or armored car kills with AA vehicles

Please play the T26E2 Pershing Along side the AD-2 Skyraider. 2 of my favourite Vehicles.
That's one thing I love about play AA the amount of skill that it takes to hit and all of the ammo has different flight characteristics there's just a certain satisfaction when you take one out of the sky
I love how War Thunder is a game where a 57mm shell exploding 5+ meters under an AH-1G is enough to cause a kill but a Type 93 stinger direct impact isn't a guaranteed kill on even an Alouette lmao
Russian based equipment has special modifiers to buff them. Like balans cap and explosive cheese. US stuff gets a lot of bullshit nerfs.
PTL02 and WMA301 are two of my most hated vehicles at the BR. They are so insanely undertiered, they could both go up 0.7 each and be fine.
I always love bringing out the WZ305. Its fun to swat planes for the entire match. The only frustrating thing about it is trying to use its proxy fuse rounds to knock out helicopter ATGMS. In my experience it just doesn't work, ever. The round fuses in front of it and the ATGM just keeps on going. If the pilot is skilled enough they can maneuver the rocket and basically sponge incoming rounds coming towards it. Might just be my sample size of the issue but it doesn't make it less frustrating. Uptiering the WZ305 to hunt down A-10's is also pretty fun.
The PGZ-09 which sits a hair above the WZ305 should have some proximity ammunition available for it as well but it has yet to be added. I would love to see it added in the future.

can you look at the Breda 501?, Its extremely undertiered since it got been buffed. I got a 15 and 14 kill game consecutively. Just roll around peeking corners and deleting everything
You should try the CM25 and illustrate why top attack missiles at 8.3 is just broken in the right hands.
The greatest limiting factor of PTL02 is its gun accuracy. It can get quite inaccurate passing 500 meters. However, once you gets the level 4 APFSDS round, it has the penetration and post pen effect that do quick work once you land the shell on an enemy vehicle. Also, it is so quick on road/city maps. It can easily get close to the enemy to mitigate the inaccurate gun. Oh, also, the Gen 2 Thermal view is just beautiful.

On a related note I played the crusader AA MK1 (in arcade, I'm not that skilled) I got 3 kills 2 light tanks and a T-34 1942, it was the best I had done with that vehicle.
SPAA at low-mid tier being absolutely useless unless the planes are within a 1km radius with a high chance of just getting strafed to death

They should add some rough aim assist for SPAA that doesn't have radars. Would make it much better

I recommend playing the Spj/fm (1.7 Swedish derp tank) at a higher br like 8.0 or something.
It's basically the same as the German slg 15cm, but Swedish and so taller

Play a match of each nations reserve vehicles and rank each nation/vehicle(s). Or play a “side by side” game of two similar/same vehicles in different tech trees and compare them and which one you prefer. I know that’s almost approaching vehicle review status but I like hearing your live reasoning on different vehicles and their strengths/weaknesses.
i was playing with the maus ang got killed by one of those, he hit the side of the turret with an HE at almost 180º (or 90º idk, a regular shell would bounce)

Of course it has better thermals than the Abrams. It was made after 9/11. That PTL02 is 2002. It's closer to the release of War Thunder than probably 60% of players birth while fighting and being designed to counter the style of some WWII vehicles like Maus, Cent Mk1, and T32E1. I loce getting annihilated from 3km away in my 1944 tank by thermals HEAT-FS from 2002

also give the Type 89 Tank Destroyer (PTZ89) a shot. 10-round autoloader, 5s reload with APFSDS that comes stock - DYW1, a 120mm round with 440mm of pen at 1740m/s - performs about the same as 3BM15 or M829, but at 8.7

I hate it when PTl02 players only excuse for it's absurd armament and performance is "no armor" like....bruh, how many vehicles does "no armor" balance past rank 5? basically none. Performance is performance and armor is almost useless past rank 5. (with exceptions obviously)

In a surprise to absolutely nobody, Gaijin fk'ed up the clip loading procedure for the 57mm SPAA gun. It is supposed to hold 8 rounds (two 4-shot clips) PER GUN. When you get down to 4 in a single gun, the loader can load the next 4 while you are still firing, just like every other clip-fed 37mm and 40mm SPAA in the game.
Can you maybe take a look at Object 685 at 8.7 in the soviet tree? It used to be pretty great back in the day, but right now it feels very much overtiered.

I know this video is about the WZ, and that thing is ridiculous too considering it's the ZSU-57-2 slightly improved, but the PTL and WMA really are some of the absolute worst things at this BR and tier altogether. Stupid fast, fully stabilised, enormous with no armour (I sure love getting hits directly under its turret ring that kill only one crewmember), and armed with APFSDS, 2nd-gen thermals when most tanks only have basic NV sights, and laser rangefinders.
Trying to fight these things with anything in the 7.0-8.0 BR range normally turns out pretty horribly, 7.0 and 7.3 especially for obvious reasons - fighting with those things in a Patton I, II, or III, for example? Genuine nightmare. It's like China gets the second-fiddle Russian handholding with some of its vehicles.

If Gaijin actually cared about CAS they would make all SPAA tanks repair cost extremely low, but I’m sitting here with AMX-13 DCA 40 with a 8,000 repair cost and at 4.7
Chinese 8.0 is my fav br, so I play a lot of the PTL-02. It has literally zero reason to be 8.0, like seriously. The WMA at 8.3 has the same thermals, a worse performing apfsds round at every angle and every range, and a slower reload, and identical vehicle performance otherwise. It's the same thing but slightly worse and at a higher BR. I can only assume the PTL is still 8.0 because the WT playerbase is awful at the game and somehow manages a bad WR in it.
I would like to see you play the AMX 10RC. I don't see it often and I think it's a pretty neat vehicle.

PTL02 and WMA301 are completely undertiered. PTL02 is from 1989 and the WMA301 is from 2011.
Another really stupid but fun vehicle around the 8.0 range is the R3 106
For what it is, having such a tight fighting compartment, no armor to speak of, and 2 shots with a long reload, no thermals and no range finder
It’s still broken and can be played all the way up at 10.0 and still be viable
Obviously, anything with RA is going to counter it hard, but with its mobility and X factor of being small and having scouting

It’s just hard for people to get rid of, 1 shot to kill the turret crew, the 2nd kills the driver and anyone else left alive

Its 1 year, but still, if u only take 30 roundes ur having zero ammo in the turret of the zsu, with 6 men crew it will have super high survivability :D

Mind you the Chinese Cancer Cars are horrific. Get full calibre guns with Darts and all at 8.0/8.3, meanwhile the Warrior is sat at the same BR with a shitty Gun, MILANs that aren't exactly great, and non existent armour for anything other than 7.62
