There are plenty of rare vehicles in War Thunder, but there aren't many as rare as the French Lorraine 155 Mle.50. The Lorraine 155 is an artillery vehicle that sits at a battle rating of 4.3 in realistic, and is one of the only vehicles in War Thunder to have collision modeled for the cannon barrel. I hope Gaijin doesn't implement barrel collision for other vehicles, because while I didn't have an issue with it in the Lorraine, I think it would be incredibly annoying.

Fun fact: the smoke shell's smoke dissipates before you can reload.
that is incorrect.
i had Lorr 155 too, in my crew it takes 21.4 sec to reload, and smoke shell screen hold time is 30 sec, even basic crew take 26 sec to reload so the smoke won't dissipates before you reloaded.
i won't carry any of smoke shell on over 20 sec reload vehicle anyway XD
@@Pache45016 normal smoke dissipates in 20 seconds. Maybe 25, definetively not 30, not even with larger shells
@@Scarletraven87 I have this thing, crew isn't even maxed. You can keep a smokescreen up (if only barely) if you continue to shoot. Smoke area also seems massive, but it's not worth the reload imo. HE is just the better option

About France being able to get a lot of vehicles: Yes. Not only in ground department but also modern jets.
Mirage 2000 have like 5 distinct variants alone.
When it comes to the grounds: AMX-10P, Panhard ERC, AMX-10RC TML (basically AMX-10RC with Strf 90 105 turret), EBRC Jaguar (Basically PUMA on crack), AMX-13 DCA (AMX-13 with AMX-30DCA Turret), AMX-10RAA (AMX-10RC with 30DCA turret), VBCI (Modern 8x8 IFV), Panhard Sphinx, Vextra 105, AMX-32 105 aaaaand list goes on and on.

VBL HOT, mistral, and 25.
There was also the rest of the ELC series, besides the Bis they added to War Thunder. These would be the EVEN 90, 30, 120, and NA2.

I kinda wish tanks had barrels with physics models. Would add a lot of additional tactics and challenges to the gameplay. Vehicles with comedically long cannons would suddenly have to live with the downsides of it

This request has been asked here and there for a decade now. No, you don't want tank barrel physics to be a thing. Anything that has a barrel length extending past the hull (which is basically every tank) would have immense trouble in forested maps and urban maps with cornering and such. Folks really don't know what they're asking for.

I didn't think France had much adding potential. You should do a big video listing everything that could be added at each tier. Vid for air and a vid for ground.

Nah, they can add it to RB too. It *is* supposed to be realistic, after all.

I would recommend the Type 75 SPH as it is also a good one shot tank that has proxy rounds
The proxy rounds don't work on that tank. They explode just before the tank you're shooting at or after it passed it

after ww2, france had a lot of mg151 20mm left over from the germans, so they used them on some things, like the lorrain 155mm and the so8000 narval. that is why it doesnt have the same pen as the 20mm of the marder or r3
why would anyone think that a completely different 20mm would have the same penetration as a gun made decades later
Wished I picked this up when the event was on. I saw that the gun depression was literally zero and so I passed on it, not trusting Gaijin to fix it. Right after the event was over, of course, they fixed it and made the vehicle playable, but by then it was too late to get it.
Hope it comes back.

In terms of French vehicles, the Tigre HAC, which is a modification which allows it to use UHT avionics was passed, hope it gets to the game soon

I think adding barrel collision would add a lot of new tactic problems including difference between short and long barrel vehicles that players would quickly adapt to and that I think they would actually find fun and a test of skill. It's a problem for all, so nobody could complain of unfair advantadges. The value of each specific type of vehicle would be even more pronounced, as it is in real life.
The only problem that could happen is if barrel collision caused 'ARMA physics', that is, the tank goes flying if the barrel touches a wall. The only thing Gaijin needs to do is a neutral impact effect were the barrel just stops moving if it contacts a surface it's not supposed to go through.
Also, just have collision without barrel damage.
It could go: Arcade - no collision, RB - collision but no damage, SB - collision with damage, but damage is an optional choice before the match.
0:01 I've had that feeling before except it was with a Dicker Max on a Cromwell's Hull MG port; it are my 105mm filler shell with 200 ish mm of pen at less than 50 meters; it was aggrivating!

I have this thing and I rarely see anyone play it. Its one of the funnest vehicles I have as its basically a KV-2 with a 20mm and wayy faster. But without armor
KV-2 also has turret. It would be more accurate to compare this vehicle with Su-152, if you want to compare it to Soviet 152mm

3:53 if they add those vehicles to the main tech tree and premium tree. how else will they have event vehicles? It still ticks me off the 2 ebr's in the game were event vehicles and good ones at that. While the one in the tech tree is absolutely crap.

All the artillery the game is supposed to be NATO 155 and those kill on the first hit, so I would imagine this SPA would do well.

@@Bean_guy2 it's flukey but basicly if it's a big enough shell/ bomb with enough explosive mass the shock wave will kill all the crew vs having to fully pen the armor.

I actually have this tank, and it had a rough history in WT. It used to have no gun depression, had problems with reversing at some point, an issue where the tank crew didnt know wether to replace the actual gunner or the 20mm MG gunner... not to mention its ability to overpressure itsself. I always love to have a derp vehicle that is mobile and has a backup 20mm to shredd light vehicles, but planes can be a real pain. even 7.7mm are your bane as most of your back, parts of the top and front are just open. about the playsyle, flank and ambush are your only reliable options in my experience.
Huh... that was the 15mm cannon from the early BF109s, originally. I wonder when they changed it to an MG151.
Either it is a change that happened under the radar, or spookston is mistaken with believing it is a 20 mm

Two things
1. Still looking for some M50 gameplay, 6 recoilless rifles that can use heat or Hesh (Or more likely its HEP) and spotting MG's to assist.
2. You should do a series on French vehicles that would make quality additions, or even some that would just be fun memes
A super cool ground vehicle vehicle they could just add to even out the the French Tech Tree a little would be the Panhard AM 40P It was the WWII predecessor of the EBR's and their variants. I think it'd fit nicely at 3.3/3.7 between the AMX-13 and Crusader Mk II. Its armament was the 25mm SA 35 which got about 18 rounds a minute and a 7.5mg. Speed was great at 80km/h on roads. The armor was surprisingly good at about 60mm frontally and it had good angling as well. I've been wanting this vehicle for a while now.

omg the thing about the barrel is so funny to me because i used to play alot of armoured warfare and literally every tanks barrel is modeled and it is just as annoying as you think it would be they get in the way of everything you have to do a full 360 sometimes lmao
Honestly i cant stop looking at the Little Armor "cage" thats over the engine and thinking how absolute Genius that is.
It's a fun tank to bring out. The gun can aim up high enough to actually be used as artillery but the shell takes forever to land. Also because the 20mm is set so far back, it messes with aiming at planes unless the come at you from the front. When ver I take it out it's usually good for a few kills until someone recognizes it, after that they just start hunting it down.
I have this tank and I love it. I wish it would come back again to see more of them on the battlefield
Cool seeing some love for this rare french vehicle. Lucky to own it. And I completely agree that France need more love from gaijin. Plenty of tanks and planes to be added. Not to mention their navy.

I would be really happy if you will talk about Italy. Italy was my first main nation both in tanks and planes, but it makes me really upset seeing how Gaijin screws them over by leaving it the only tank nation without a single 11.0 vehicle and F-104 as their only true top tier jet. Plus Italy was the first nation with potent APFSDS (which it isn't now and it also got nerfed). There is also a lot going on about how Ariete series is underperforming (PSO+WAR kit is also a whole another topic). I remember the glorious days when I could take 10.3 lineup Ariete, Centauro MGS and OTOMATIC and just enjoy the game...

I know what you're saying about other trees getting some love from the events, but actually I'm kinda glad they don't and here's why: Those vehicles that would be event vehicles need to be in the tech tree or premiums. The US, Germany, and Russia can get tons of stuff as event vehicles because the trees are totally fleshed out. There are tons of vehicles France could get as events as another commenter pointed out, but these vehicles need to be in the tree. The AMX-10P would fill an IFV hole in the French tree. The AMX serious is a quintessential French vehicle line that really shouldn't be put behind a rare event. It's not a big deal if the Germans get another Leo 2. There's already more Leo variants than you can put in a lineup so adding one more doesn't make the lineup stronger or anything. Better it go in an event than be filler in the tree. Smaller nations need their vehicles in their tech trees.

@@elcousteau3441 Yeah that's what I'm saying like I'm fine if Germany gets obscure random Leopard prototypes, but "minor" nations really need their regular tech trees filled out more they have lots of gaps.
The problem is event vehicles going to the "big three" creates a feedback loop of most of the playerbase only ever playing said "big three", which means Gaijin overinvests in additions to those trees, which means people keep on not playing "minor nations", and on, and on.
France (in particular) has a ridiculously large amount of potential additions. You could literally multiply both Ground and Air tech trees by 2 without going into whacky prototypes (and still without having 7 times basically the same vehicle).There is more than enough variety to have both semi-obscure prototypes and plenty of tech tree additions. The EBR for example had at least 5 variants of which three were mass produced ; the problem with Gaijin is they decided to make the mass produced variants event vehicles, and didn't even think about the lesser-known prototypes.
dude, you should totally play the AMX 50 Surbaisse, its an interesting heavy tank since its armor is more dependant on the advanced angles of the oscelating turret. Please play it! :)

Try the AMX-13 FL11, it has had 2-3 tonnes taken out of it, it's now one of the fastest and most maneuverable tanks at Rank 3.

the lorraine and bkan have collision models for the barrels but it stays in a static position with the hull of the tank. sadly the collision box doesn't follow the orientation of the barrel model itself so you can still move the barrel through objects and stuff

This thing is probably one of my favorite self propelled howitzers in the game
another one shotter out there that has similar reload and smaller gun is the SU-122. its BR of 2.3 is truly a blessing, as oftentimes you'll find yourself bouncing quite a few rounds from peashooters that have no clue how to go through.

I'd suggest the SU-85 at 4.3. Basically T-34-85 at that BR but on a low profile casemate.

bro that thing is so good it can take out king tigers at least it used too i used to have my buddy uptier me to 6.7 when the tiger 2 h was at 6.7 but back then HE was broken and honestly if yall want a play style with that thing be slightly aggressive with and being sneaky with it will get you a lot of kills you also want to have teammates but i didn't realize the thing was that rare that some youtubers didn't even have it
HE was broken, then they nerfed it, and then they rebuffed it with overpressure; So it is back to being a strong derp machine
Love the lorraine 155, have had it since the event. A while back they nerfed ots mobility, thing used to fly round like a bt7 on crack
It’s also very sad to think that France doesn’t get any sort of Naval Fleet too ingame when they had one of the largest fleets in the world

Sherman 105 was quite similar to this experience back then ... and you also got armor to boot. Dude it was OP as hell.
It still is a heavy tank with the speed of a light/medium tho
