I love the discussions on this channel. There needs to be more of them like this. How ever I was disappointed to hear that self-protection is not a Christian right and responsibility. I am a lifelong LCMS member who reads the bible almost every day and can remember Jesus sayings. Jesus spoke to us about self-protection and protecting our neighbor. You are both well-educated so the references I make should come to mind instantly as I mention them. Jesus told the disciples to bring staves or swords with them as they went out to spread the good news. Did Jesus say that so they could protect others from thieves or others. No Jesus was saying that so they could protect themselves in a defensive way. When Jesus says the meek shall inherit the earth, he addresses the fact that it is okay and wise to carry self-defense weapons. The word meek is translated form a Greek word meaning " those who hold their swards in their sheath" Meaning the weapon is there as a deterrent and to be used only in self-defense or defense of others. So you are at odds with the scripture but are in good company if Luther viewed it the same way as he was a sinner and under attack by Satan Daily as we all are. I was moved to write this by the Holy Spirit after praying to the Father in Jesus' name. I would hope you both would read the scripture and Jesus words on the subject Thank you for great videos.
Abortion is indeed a serious issue, but at the same time we cannot pin our desire to end it on either party when *both* candidates are effectively and explicitly pro-choice. Because we have vocations outside of citizens who vote, we cannot leave our pro-life actions to the ballot box alone when both major party candidates are so flawed. We should speak more fully to not simply ending abortion, but also advocate for policies that reduce demand for it and act within our own abilities and gifts to support pro-life pregnancy centers, etc. We need to make compelling arguments grounded in scripture and reason as to why abortion is wrong but also have consistent views of the sanctity of life across the board. Part of the problem with the shift in our culture is that we've become narrowly focused on ending abortion through our vote and not having a robust, consistent pro-life ethic that cuts through a number of issues, including abortion. The outside culture sees this inconsistency and isn't convinced of our current arguments.
The question is who decides? Federal government or states. On that question the candidates are very different. Vote Democrat and you vote for abortion being an option for the entire nation.
@@nilsalmgren4492 From my vantage point, the Right used the abortion issue as a carrot to attract and retain Christian votes. Regardless of who's in the White House or controls Congress, we have other ways in our vocations to work toward abortion's end. And we can still advocate for laws, policies, and approaches that lower demand for abortion.
@@billyschultz9004 I would think the transgender push of the democrats trying to sterilize our children is enough to stop Christians from voting Democrat.
@@billyschultz9004 If states are allowed to set the law we can choose to live in states where abortion on demand is all but illegal. Of course you are free to believe that abortion should be allowed on demand.
@@billyschultz9004 I would agree in principle, but I think the way you word it is misleading as if there is an equality in the two major parties' positions. You bring up pregnancy resource centers, which are a great blessing to our society. I think this issue is a good one to look at as one of the political parties is making these centers more difficult to operate such as putting laws in place mandating the visible posting of directions to abortion centers.
ll Timothy 3:2-7 ...ever Learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth..man is of the Flesh ,as the church..not Lutheranism,,but the flesh within the cup,,a vessel ,you dropped it up pay for it..
@RevancedBurner No, what I said is exactly true. If you are to believe what this guy says about Lutherans, you are not supposed to have a weapon to defend your children in your own home. This guy is obviously a liberal Democrat.
It seems like LCMS should just be practical about abortion. It will not be eliminated or even reduced. There is no need to fill sermons or videos discussing it.
Abortion is just a symptom of larger cultural problems surrounding the goodness and sanctity of life, nihilism, and other issues that run deeper and are what really need to be addressed by the church. Abortion is evil and should be stopped, but it won’t be unless its roots are destroyed.
We should be practical about adultery too, we'll never eliminate or even reduce it so we should not fill sermons or videos on the 6th commandment. See how silly that sounds? We should never learn to accept sin
@@RevancedBurner The question is "What is a sin?" The most commonly used phrase in Christianity is "What this means is..." Anyone can use the Bible to declare some behavior a "sin." Millions of Christians approve of abortion. To pound pulpits it is sin when it is supported by the majority of Christians and the public make it useless to discuss. Each person can practice the faith in the way they interpret it.
Huge JB fan here! Don't agree with everything he says but have learned a TON from his systematics lectures on UA-cam.

When he talks about government being tertiary I’d argue that during Covid almost all Christians caved and put government edicts first.

So I guess this guy is saying that if he saw his daughter being raped and then killed he would do nothing about it if he had a gun.
Right! He would rejoice that a life has been created.
I don’t think that is his position. We didn’t discuss that specific instance.
