The opportunity to explain oneself when there is a perceived issue reminds me of the Holy Roman Empire calling a diet to hear Luther's defense of his writings.
Take 2 The answer to what is a Lutheran is what I was wanting to see. Evidently the answer is a Lutheran is in the eyes of the beholder. There is no cut and dry definition, just what one person claims. This is the 2nd time that a post of mine has gone missing here.
@@gregsnyder848 Really there is no argument, and the real question is if you are a follower of Jesus. Any Lutheran that claims that things like abortion or homosexual marriage is in line with Jesus' message is not a follower of God. Those are the people we are to have nothing to do with. Adding to scripture by way of modern societal values is also a sign of a "Christian" aka "Lutheran" you are supposed to hand over to Satan...aka kick out from among you and have nothing to do with.
As a Lutheran, how am I supposed to respond to a non-believer when they say you are just a watered down catholic, because that is the Lutheran faith? I responded by, Lutherans are not "watered down catholics". I don't believe in what Catholics believe in. I dont believe in purgatory, it goes against scripture. I believe in God the Father, His only son my Savior Jesus Christ and in the Holy Spirit. Not sure what the proper response should have been.
It is easy to say I am a sinner it is hard to confess my actual sins that have hurt others and offended God. In the same way, it is easy to "be right" but it is much harder to be right in the right way because it is personal.
As to a matter of trust, it's hard to trust people who have proved themselves untrustworthy. I've had DPs, CVs and pastors tell me better to ask for forgiveness than permission. It's too difficult to change things through the agreed upon channels so we just do it anyway. Case in point, the SMP program. Meant to provide pastors to congregations who cannot afford a pastor, or have a specialized ministry i.e. ethnic or language group. DPs et al are calling them from these congregations and using them as associate pastors or just using the program to get associate pastors (whose service could just as well be done by a fellow with a MDiv or Colleguy or second career path). Instead of fixing these practices at the Synodical convention with good resolutions from the districts and circuit forums, they chose to kick the ball down the street and continue the program being abused. If you want people to trust you, act trustworthy.
Romans 14 vs 1 Corinthians 5....an interesting study that at first glance appears to be a contradiction. Figuring out the truth of those two scriptures will help you to bring harmony on earth while being a child of God. Harmony by embracing sin is death.
Congratulations, you're right. Now nobody trusts one another. The way we tell stories impacts how we see one another. Very very thought provoking.

To be Lutheran means to argue about what it means to be Lutheran. :-)

You can think you are right, but be wrong. God determines right, so we must wait for judgement day.
