My dog is my very best pal and he loves being in the van. We are part-time, so we do have a home base but I would always have a pup, especially for van life. The van lifers that I follow have pets and their pets are living their best lives hiking and being the center of attention. ❤
Get 2 puppies!! 🐶🐶🧡🧡 I adopted 2 sibling cats that love each other so much and it is a joy for them and me. Excellent repurposed window coverings, so worth the effort.
Nice job! And oh my goodness! All the puppies!! So sweet! I made my own window covers...twice! I made my original ones for my Matrix, then bought a Rav4 and made them for that too. I've been using them for 2 years and they have held up really well, The only problem (besides the price!) I have with the Weathertech covers is the shiny black side. If you are trying to be stealthy it's pretty obvious there are covers under the glass, even with tint. Even homemade covers that people put black duct tape on reflects any light shone on them, like by a flashlight or car head lights. The ones I made used inexpensive foam board, which is a flat black. I really like them and they have worked very well for me.
I had my doubts in the begining but you did an excellent job of refurbishing the covers. I had no idea they were so expensive. No wonder most van lifers make their own. ❤ your channel. Btw I should have figured you knew who Chrome was!
Hi Debra Like all your hard work repurposing your ford fiesta weather tech window covers! Saved a good deal of dough on that DYI! Definitely used your brain! Seems like your much happier in van life than car life! Everytime I get in my Fiesta I think of you! Love my car but know I couldn’t live in my Fiesta as it is not a hatchback and basically no room for sleeping! Those puppies are precious! Thinking of taking one for your van? So cute! Thanks for taking us along on making your window covers! Enjoy van life!👍💕🐾🚐
@DebraBehrens-sn4bi Thanks Debra 🤍 I am happier. I know right! The fiesta was so small, but that experience makes me appreciate the space I have now. They are so precious. I'm seriously considering one.
Did I miss the video where you finished your bed set up? I think I am watching out of order. That bed looks amazing and I want to see if I can do one in my van. So great that you are doing so much of the work yourself. Very inspiring to those of us just starting out. Thank you!
Yay!! Well those shades weren’t cheap, so pretty darn impressive on your recycling abilities! 👏Good to also know that if some areas of the covers become broken down over time you can just reinforce with more tape , and you’ll be good to go! Hope you’re staying warm, and those puppies are adorable. I could almost smell their good puppy smell through the screen 😂. Take care, and see you soon again. Thank you for sharing your journey. 💫🌺
@debra7241 Thank you Debra 🤍 Yes, love that aluminum tape! It's still hovering in the 3- to 10-degree Celsius range, so not bad at all. I'm in puppy love for certain 💕 You take care as well
Weather tech comes with a lifetime warranty with the hefty price tag. Obviously not once you repurpose, but they replaced my complete set when one separated. $$$ for sure, but good product and service.
My dogs are my closest friends. They do cost money but mine are worth their weight in gold. Very hard choice between the two but you have time. The windows look perfect great job 🎉
Great job on the window coverings! I'm so glad your coverings are as large as they are! Speaking from my experience you'll need to have room in your van for a crate for times when you have to leave the van. Puppies wil chew your interior to bits and any wires they will chew through. Climate control for you and your dogs. The puppy stage is horrible in a vehicle until they are trained. I have traveled with 1 and with 2 father and son. 1 dog was so much easier to handle because when it's cold they want to be in bed with you. Your heart will tell you what's best for you!
@cdnbuddy5798 Yes, it's a big commitment for sure. I'm going to book into a campsite for the first 2 weeks, so I can take her out often and start the potty training. Gonna get a crate and save for an air-conditioner for the summer. It's a lot of work, but I think it will be worth it. That breed is so loyal to their human. Thanks so much 🤍
We had 2 american eskimo in a semi was lots of fun people laughing at are truck signal lights on both sitting in front seat and them checking mirrors! So cute. We went out to talk to a freind once they locked us iut of the truck lol
Awe Deb you're getting a puppy? It will add so much love to your life! I traveled back home from VI without my dog and it was so lonely. I will never travel without him again!

No. Snow yet in your neck of the woods. We just had 8 inches here ! Hi Debra nice to see the window shades coming together great job. I`ve seen some shades where they spray adhesive on the inside of the shades then they use fabric or cardboard to make them chic , a little chic can go along way!Take care. Do You have any other must do things that are needs and not wants? Safe travels
@richardkotowski2268 Thanks Richard 😊 Holy moly, snow already! Ti's the season tho right. Ya, you can do so many creative things with window covers. I need to get my floor done so I can do my bed platform.
A great suggestion is use your back seat stow& go chair, just a small one..then put your blankets behind behind the seat in the cargo bin I'm a new subscriber & love your Channel.. Cheers
I didn't want to use a large roll. That's what was frustrating the last time I tried. I emphasized the smaller pieces of paper because it's much easier.
@@NorthofSomewhereNomad I guess I didn't see where you tried using the larger roll. Seems like it would have been easier to cut a sheet off the roll just slightly larger than the window and then taping it up around the window while you trace the actual template (Or used loops of tape or blue tack to temporarily hold the paper right on the window). I hope I'm not sounding critical, I'm just brainstorming other ways to do it. Which is of no use to you since you won't need to do this again any time soon. Good job reusing those expensive window coverings.
@angela-ti1np No worries. Previous to living in my van, I lived in my car, which was where I tried making window covers with a large roll to make the template - I didn't document that but it was super frustrating for me. The patchwork template was exponentially easier, at least for me. There are tons of videos on how to make templates using large rolls of paper. I suggest that if that seems easier, check out those videos.
*Please reconsider getting an animal during car/van life.* People do it and make it work (and I understand if one finds themselves displaced from their home if they already own a pet and are forced into van life _after_ the fact) but if you are petless and have the option to _not,_ please don’t. It’s one thing for humans to make do, but please consider their quality of life, the cramped quarters they will spend much of their time in and having to leave an animal in a locked vehicle when you’re away and the ways in which it can go very badly should anything fail or should you be unable to return for any reason. A home gives them yard space (usually) and if nothing else, at least a bit more square footage to rest and move comfortably during their day as well as consistency. There’s also the expense and planning that comes with any pet (no matter where you live.) You have to do what’s best for you but I always urge those without a pet to examine very closely whether their lifestyle would suit an animal, to consider the level of freedom of schedule and responsibility you get to enjoy currently in order to be sure that once you bring a pet into your life, you both thrive beautifully. Just considerations. Be blessed❤
