Steve Winwood accomplished more in the music industry before the age of 25 than most musicians do in a lifetime. Multiple instruments, multiple groups, distinctive vocals, enduring songs like Gimme Some Lovin', 'Im A Man', 'Keep On Runnin', ' Dear Mr. Fantasy', 'Can't Find My Way Home', 'Low Spark'. He was fronting Spencer Davis at the age of 15 in 1963 and able to stay focused and relatively sober to today...a truly remarkable career.

Saw him once in London, ON. After a draw dropping guitar solo on Dear Mr. Fantasy he sat down behind the Hammond organ for the next song. I was very close to the stage to witness more amazing talent. He had one hand on the Hammond keys. The other hand was playing another keyboard run while both feet were playing bass pedal, and he sang into the mic as well. Never missed a note and made it so easy. To know he wrote I'm A Man and Gimme Some Loving at age 15 is truly astounding!.
Saw and heard Traffic play this in a small club in London in '68 when I was 20 and Steve was 19. One of the best shows ever. Steve would be playing piano, then jump and grab the guitar and start strumming away. Incredible vocals, Chris Wood on sax and Jim Capaldi on drums. Will never forget it.

They are great songs, but Can't Find My Way Home was actually a Blind Faith tune, done when Winwood was on "leave" from Traffic and playing with Clapton in the short lived aforementioned Blind Faith. Interestingly when Winwood rejoined his bros in Traffic they did some of their best and musically most diverse work: John Barleycorn and also Low Spark. You are correct though, impossible not to love this late Sixties early Seventies Brit stuff, at the same time The Who were doing Tommy and Peter Green was still in the original Fleetwood Mac, and of course the Stones were doing: Wild Horses, Gimmie Shelter, and Midnight Rambler. Take care.

I live on Maui, and i worked for six years at Bounty Music. Dave Mason comes in from time to time. I hate to say it, but I knew nothing about this band, (I’m almost 40 now). My older coworkers would tell me he was in the band “Traffic” and is a legend. I looked up the band and realized they were the ones who played this song, and I’ve heard it from time to time on the radio, and always loved it. The next time I saw Dave, I told him that I didn’t know you guys wrote that song, and he being the gentleman he is, decided to give me a quick guitar lesson of a his preferred different version of this song, that was in a minor key. I’m grateful for the lesson, but honestly, I like this version a lot more.
I love telling those stories. Everyone thought the mushrooms were from Safeway, laced with acid. One guy says, he has Quaalude, so we all pop one. Then he says, Wait a minute, those are the big ones. We spend a few hours outside, faces skyward, watching the snowflakes fall.
This is just a great song.. So grateful I grew up on this -and know all the words even!... man, what a run we've had for music. The Best. God Bless America and all of us who love her.
...found two "Inverness green" mid '66 Firebird ( w/ p 90s): one priced at $18,000, the other $9,000. Musicians like Steve, and the three below with piano/keyboard as their primary or a "close" secondary instuments, often do approach the guitar from less conventional ( more unique, orininal, and inovative) "angles?" Prince Eric Johnson Edward Van Halen Steve spent some real time in New York at Electric Lady with Hendrix during the recording of "Electic Lady Land" double album. He laid down organ tracks and supposedly was deeply involved in the recording process. They enjoyed playing/ creating, and just hanging out when time, schedules, and others weren't in the shadows or the light... "Dear Mr. Fantasy," so who and what is Steve singing/writing about in this song?
the Marvelous one 🐠 I was thinking the same thing! I was in my early teens when this was made. My mom brought me up on this and many other kinds of music. The cameramen did an amazing job!! Love it! Can’t even count how many times I’ve watched his one!
As an engineer and camera op, I appreciate your appreciation of what my brothers and sisters do to record a piece of history so the rest of us can enjoy.
The 70's had some of the best bands. The music has a deeper meaning other than money, cars and vanity unlike our current musical talents. These songs will play forever!
This is one of my most favorite songs that is deeply ingrained into my subconscious/ consciousness on every level. Rock and Roll needs to make a come back!
What a unique sound and vibe! It’s almost as if Traffic had a moat around their sound that no other band could duplicate I saw Traffic in the early 90’s.in Pensicola fl., but would have Loved to have seen them in the late 60’s🎼🎹🎸💫⭐️
if it wasn't for his voice he'd be recognized as a great organ player, if it wasn't for his organ playing he'd be recognized as a great guitar player....if it wasn't for all three he'd be recognized as an incredible song writer....that voice...it is just so effing good that it overshadows all of his other prodigious talents....what a multitude of riches this man has...wow
If anyone wanted to complain about the gods not being fair when they hand out talent, Steve Winwood would be exhibit A. He's a brilliant singer, guitarist, keyboardist AND songwriter. I love his guitar playing here, there's a purity and grace about his playing that is just wonderful to listen to.
Relax, everyone...this is the way they performed in my days. That's the way you listened to this music in my days....I grew up in the 60's and early 70's, the greatest revolution era in music EVER. 55 years later it still cranks.....just without the acid..LOL
Let me not bore you with music trivia, but SW was only 15 when this song was released in 1967...wow! and in its original release, it was only a bit over five minutes long. Somewhere I remember a quote from an interview of the time from either Stevie or Chris Wood that "Mr. Fantasy" was Frank Zappa. To this day I do not understand why I make this connection, but since both songs came out in 1967 and had "Mr." in their respective titles, I connect "Dear Mr. Fantasy" and Neil's "Hello Mr. Soul"; don't know why; musically, they are completely different... but I was 12, had been playing guitar for three years by then and in garage bands, was building radios and listening to FM radio from NYC and surrounds and hearing album rock format... where is Mr. Peabody's "Way Back Machine"? send me back please!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Stevie, we are born the same year, Iv'been following you since you started, so its really a wile. But I cant stand listen to you, and this one song means so much to me. Thank you and the fabulous band wich makes this endless pleasure be true

"So Glad We Made it" = Gimme Some Lovin
little stevie winwood they used to call him
did not know that
Can't do this with computer generated music, this is pure raw talent which doesn't exist today
It still does, but computers are the Devil!
It does exist, believe it or not; you just have to hunt it down and find it.
AMEN!
Billy Strings is a good place to start✌🏻
Why in the actual F would Winwood be opening for ANYBODY????
This is just a great song.. So grateful I grew up on this -and know all the words even!... man, what a run we've had for music.
The Best.
God Bless America and all of us who love her.
America has little to do with this performance. The performers were all British, except Jim Gordon (American), Rebop Kwaku Baah (Ghanaian).
Hello Laura, how are things going with you?
That beautiful Gibson Firebird. He knows how to make her cry and sing in a single sound. ❤🎶
I think you are suffering from "Guitar Envy". It's okay. There are support groups.
It is haunting and familiar.! Damn it man ,gimme back my ERA !
...found two "Inverness green" mid '66 Firebird ( w/ p 90s): one priced at $18,000, the other $9,000.
Musicians like Steve, and the three below with piano/keyboard as their primary or a "close" secondary instuments, often do approach the guitar from less conventional ( more unique, orininal, and inovative) "angles?"
Prince
Eric Johnson
Edward Van Halen
Steve spent some real time in New York at Electric Lady with Hendrix during the recording of "Electic Lady Land" double album. He laid down organ tracks and supposedly was deeply involved in the recording process. They enjoyed playing/ creating, and just hanging out when time, schedules, and others weren't in the shadows or the light... "Dear Mr. Fantasy," so who and what is Steve singing/writing about in this song?
Thank you to all the tech ppl and camera men that were able to capture these memories for us god bless em!!
the Marvelous one 🐠 I was thinking the same thing! I was in my early teens when this was made. My mom brought me up on this and many other kinds of music. The cameramen did an amazing job!! Love it! Can’t even count how many times I’ve watched his one!
I want some of that I'm just 61 the founder of that didn't he go over 100
As an engineer and camera op, I appreciate your appreciation of what my brothers and sisters do to record a piece of history so the rest of us can enjoy.
Fuck yes!!
the Marvelous one 🐠 oime
Eyes like saucers! And amazingly soulful playing, what a song
Noticed😂
The 70's had some of the best bands. The music has a deeper meaning other than money, cars and vanity unlike our current musical talents. These songs will play forever!
@Winston Leg-Thigh true, like they say, a lot of the 60s happened in the 70s
Barry Manalow and the BeeGees
To this day, that is the most intense tambourine playing I've ever seen..
Fantastic job. It adds so much to the song.
There's no cowbell
Capaldi was more useful when he played the drums.
@@debbiehanisch2099 More cowbell! Less pupil dilation LOL
More tambourine. Like harp, once it went things dived.
Beautiful!💕❤️.
who is here and listening that is not from the 60s and 70s? I can't imagine anyone else able to appreciate the depth of this.
Wish I Was Still There!😄👍✌

This is one of my most favorite songs that is deeply ingrained into my subconscious/ consciousness on every level. Rock and Roll needs to make a come back!
That's a great way to say it. I know exactly what you mean
Green guitar and shirt in the most perfect matching combination ever.
What a unique sound and vibe!
It’s almost as if Traffic had a moat around their sound that no other band could duplicate
I saw Traffic in the early 90’s.in Pensicola fl., but would have Loved to have seen them in the late 60’s🎼🎹🎸💫⭐️
if it wasn't for his voice he'd be recognized as a great organ player, if it wasn't for his organ playing he'd be recognized as a great guitar player....if it wasn't for all three he'd be recognized as an incredible song writer....that voice...it is just so effing good that it overshadows all of his other prodigious talents....what a multitude of riches this man has...wow
Well said!
Stevie Ray Bon Scott Joplin
cable gyser
It doesn't get any better than this.
That is such a great comment ! Thank you !
I never knew Winwood was such an accomplished guitarist, he's brilliant here. This so brings back the feel of that era.
He's a musical and artistic genius
His talent showed up earlier in "The Spencer Davis Group". Steve Winwood is a gifted musician.
Amazing to see Stevie playing lead guitar He is a genius. Wonderful video.... Thank you...oh and Reebok on percussion. 8)
Relax, everyone...this is the way they performed in my days. That's the way you listened to this music in my days....I grew up in the 60's and early 70's, the greatest revolution era in music EVER. 55 years later it still cranks.....just without the acid..LOL
A trip down memory lane, when the weed was weak and the acid was so very good.
Sorry about where you got your weed, but I had some that kicked today's weed's ass.
ah acid! loved it!
acid on concerts! the best!
@@vincentbugalia3858 True!!

What a great year and decade for music. Will always be my favorite.
The album John Barley Corn was a good album. Very underrated Traffic were way better than they got credit for.
I tell that to all my buddies
How many Karens does it take to describe Winwood as underrated? Sit back enjoy, so glad for posting this. video
Hello Karen, how are things going with you?
Peabody's "Way Back Machine"? send me back please!!!!!!!!!!!!
in all of my lifetime I am 60...one name has always stood out...Steve Winwood
I'm stuck in this Traffic jam, and I love it and never want to get out of it.
I seen traffic in concert way back then they were fantastic on stage and yes I was tripping on acid when I went to see them oh, what a night!!!!
Bravo...Encore...The Master of Music...❤
Dear Stevie, we are born the same year, Iv'been following you since you started, so its really a wile. But I cant stand listen to you, and this one song means so much to me. Thank you and the fabulous band wich makes this endless pleasure be true
DAMN...so glad I got to be a part of this fantastic era and putting it mildly! CJ Candel LAST STAND OF THE WOLVES pub. 7/30/2012 by Xlibris. A TRUE paranormal adventure!
Hello Cynthia, how are things going with you?
wow, never saw him back then but watching this now really gave me chills. Never knew he played the guitar on the songs, it was a band that I liked but never bought any albums. He can really play....not hurried....really skillful...thanks for posting!
I'm having an LSD flashback just looking at Steve's face.
RIP Jim Capaldi one of the greatest rock drummers ever
Great band! Steve Winwood one of the very greatest singers, songwriters, guitarists, organists, and more, 👏👏👍👍

This man could do it all . And do it all exceptionally. So underrated
that is sad, Stevie and more musicians like him so underrated meanwhile this song is known just because movies like marvel and alike, people`s hunch know this music is truly worthy
Do it all while tripping ....
My dude on the tambourine is in another world man! I would love a little bit of whatever he was on during this performance. Perhaps it was the RED acid?? 😵💫🥴😮💨
As I age, my love and respect for Steve Winwood grows larger and larger
Plz make us all happy 😁 love this from Traffic ❤️ awesome song I hadn't heard in years. Thanks for the upload!

Saw Steve 4 years ago...WOW, time hasn't hurt him. Floored us all and I couldn't even sit through but 3 songs of Steely Dan. I kept saying how in the world could someone go on after that. BEST SHOE EVER!
Hello JoAnn, how are things going with you?
Best shoe, indeed!
Just got to see Steve play this last night, opening for Steely Dan. Still an amazing singer and player !
Lefty Bass man that's my dream show. Especially now that the dan is no more. :( But good for you man! I bet that was amazing.
RIP Walter Becker
Jim C. must not have been able to hold down the drums by this time. Too bad.
His eyes, how were the eyes?
Winwood is so high on acid or shrooms during this. Look at those eyes. So impressive he could play like he does in this footage. Maybe some snow, too. Guess we won’t ever know ha
I have seen Steve play from 1966 to the present day. Over half a Century and his dark eyes always look that way. I know he wasn't tripping balls all those times...

One my favorite songs of all time. I wish I could go back. When life wasn't jive and everyone was safe and happy you could leave Ur doors open and everyone had morals. It was the best of times. He was tripping balls at this concert. Everyone was. What a trip.😊❤❤❤❤❤
i love at the end of the solo when they all somehow feel that epic 20 minute solo start to slow down and they all work their way back to the verse. They are really feeling each other's vibe.
Steve Winwood is the man what an amazing guitarest.
Lewis Floyd Henry he nevet gets any recognition! I saw him at Fillmore East in NYC, years ago... w/ "Traffic".....John Barleycorn.....etc.... great artist!!!
