This was during a time when musicians were true musicians. Nothing today can remotely compare.
Check out The Warning...
Don't forget Baba O-xo on the Conga! Love him!
Each genre and era has its greats: Zappa, Darude, Robert Miles, Led Z, The Allmans, CCR, Phiosh, The Dead, (remember Wishbone Ash and Phoenix?), The Foo Fighters, Lenny White and Weather report and Stanley Clark and Mr. Miles Davis, Jefferson Starship, Jerry Jeff Walker, Leon Russell, The Who, Ian and Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Linkin Park, Yes, the Stones...well, point made. Happy trails to all.
I've left out more then I included, but still point made.
But how could I omit Enigma?
It’s Worth Being 70 And Listening To This! ❤

I am required to watch this once a week for my mental health. 🙂
I worked at a record store in the mid-nineties. I played this song in the store, and a lady came and thanked me. I’ll always remember that. The power of music reaches many 😊
And to think I took that music for granted as a kid in the 70s. We were so spoiled by the quality of music produced back then. And remember when you could call your local radio station and request a song?
We were Gen X
Yeah, my oldest friend a HS DJ
Tickets 4 dollars
We were spoiled. Born in 1950 and partied thru it ALL
We did...SF Bay Area Music Mecca was fabulous every week a great show someplace- wow the musical masterpieces
Can you imagine music like this being created these days? To everything there is a season, but what a fantastic season it was when Traffic recorded this.
Low spark of high heeled boys.
The last blow of saxophone (dissonant cord) was my fav.
of that song
What a time it was. The music from TRAFFIC was so relaxing. I loved it, for real.
Wouldn't work. The piece is too long-it couldn't hold the average persons attention that long. This is why full orchestral music isn't heard anymore.
Oh it did work and still does. Mr Winwood was very influential on several generations. In today's world of diversity personified this works. Especially for all the indica/sativa people. Thanks traffic for keeping us 'old guys' relevant. More Love more laughter..
The drugs were REALLY good back then. 😊🎉
I'm 84 years old -- caught TRAFFIC in Phoenix, 1974 -- This jam has been a fave of my Wife and I since the day we heard it !!

OMG Just in the past few years I have gotten back into Traffic. I was 17 in 1972. They are still amazing Bought the album Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys recently and I am addicted. We were lucky, had the best music, the best weed, it was the best of times. Listened to it endlessly in college in MI. Wish I could go back for a week. Best music ever. Good times. I’m 68 and remember the 70s, the fiends, the music…we’re lucky to have lived through the best of times
I'm 67, a buddy gave me a refrigerator magnet that said " I may be old, but I got to see all the really great bands." This is one of many

Amen Daniel! I am fortunate to have an older brother, (2yrs) who introduced me to Bob James, Weather Report, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, etc. We lived in a rural area, and very few people had even heard of those musicians, let alone listening to their music. This is one of those songs that are timeless! Thanks brother Bill!
You remember the 70's your one up on me man, i'am 65 and I love to relive what I don't remember.
Unfortunately music such as this was a special gift at a special time, time that has left us and never to return....
it'll return, but the musician and producer will be an AI !
Lives perish but good Souls & great Music live on for ever!
I was a senior in college. I’m glad I was young and on this earth for this incredible music. I’m glad I lived when I did.
When Traffic came out with this song I was 23 years old, recently graduated from college, had a good job, and few really nice girl friends, and listening to some REALLY good music...all before piss testing. Life was good. I’m 70 years old now, recently retired from a very good job and career, been married to the same wonderful woman for 42 years, still listing to some REALLY good music....and no piss tests! Life is STILL good!
Cheers my good Man, I'm 62 and LOVE this,
it is dedicated to my Brother Al RIP. He always would say to me "If you had just a minute to breathe and they granted you one final wish Would you ask for something like another chance? Or something similar as this? Don't worry too much

This was one of my sister’s favorite albums. When she came down with profound early onset dementia, I would play it for her and she would wake … comforted by having something she knew. Steve Winwood is an amazing musician and songwriter.
Traffic. There was never anything quite like them. 40,000 Headman, Season of the Witch, Dear Mr. Fantasy...
I work with people who have dementia so I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes music brings them back to reality when they are having a "bad day". I once had a resident that was having a "bad day" and I told him to get his guitar and play "Jack and Diane" for me. He stumbled through it but got it down then played a few more songs that eventually led to him playing "Round About" so then I started asking him questions about real life and reality and he was much better and was able to carry on a full conversation and was able to find his way back to his own room and get himself ready for bed. The power of music is unbelievable!! You know, real music. Not this stuff they call "music" nowadays.

Winwood 's piano alternatively melodic, hypnotic, then forceful, almost percussive. Delivered effortlessly. Along with his haunting voice. What a talent. Super tight drummer holds things together. And the sax. An early 70's masterpiece. This song has intrigued me since I was a kid in the 80s. Love this live version. Traffic was so rarely recorded live we are lucky to have this

When musicians were actually allowed to do their own thing and create aural masterpieces. Experiencing a concert by them was a total trip without the acid. For those of us who lived through that era, it was a priceless experience.

UNDERSTATEMENT. This isn’t my era, but I love this jam….
I hear “Take Five” Dave Brubeck et al somewhere in the background . . . I’m 79 and appreciate good jazz whenever I hear it. 😎
I was a 22 year young Puerto Rican Hippie in NYC when this piece was recorded and got to admit I don’t believe I ever heard this until now. Somehow this one went under the radar I guess most of us with our LSD burnt out brains were too busy listening to The Iron Butterfly, The Stones, Hendrix, Joplin, WAR, Mandrill, Santana, Creedence, Sly, Aretha, James Brown, Joe Cocker, Jackie Wilson, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Cream, Grateful Dead, Temptations, The Supremes, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Chambers Brothers, Sam Cooke, Hall and Oates, The Righteous Brothers etc to have noticed “Traffic” but at age 74 I guess I got lucky to have discovered these guys who were a different kind of animal with a very soulful jazzy sound and that Sax player was really feeling that thing.
Well man, I dug all of them. But, I had already been indoctrinated into Bop for example. Bossa nova Samba. Mambo. All of Brazil Cuba Mexico. Cal Tjader produced a jewel of Latin music. “The Contemporary Music Of Mexico And Brazil” and a hundred other drop dead virtuoso lps’. He alone did the Latinos the greatest respect. Eddie Palmieri Poncho Sanchez Willi Bobo Mongo Santanamaria the list is so long. Herbie Mann “At the Village Gate Vol. 1 , “Night In Tunisia”, Art Blakey And The Jazz Messengers”. How about Alan Hovaness, “The Magic Mountain”.
Forgot to say the reason I stopped at your comment I eyed “Puerto Rican”. No way you could get far from Latin Jazz. Anyway I am 82 yrs. And got here tonight by way of Trace Adkins singing “Wayfaring Stranger”. And yes, I had a tear in my eye.
When you went to see bands like Traffic, you went for the music, not the theatrical crap you get now. These bands could play for hours - and sometimes did - without worrying about whether the fans were getting bored because nobody's dancing. Traffic were one of the greatest bands that ever graced a stage or made a record.

What's really amazing about this is that Steve Winwood is all of 24, and had already amassed an amazing career at that point.
I was thinking the same thing. He was so musically talented and he got to play with many superior musicians, kept growing. It was an even younger Steve Winwood with Blind Faith, whose version of 'Can't Find My Way Home' just still stops me in my tracks. It really is amazing!

I love how tight the drum set and congas are.
Just to add my opinion. I graduated from H.S. on '73 - my friends & I were so into this type of performance. Don't mean to sound like an asshole... back then we went to a performance with no seats, closed our eyes and just moved to the hypnotic sounds, as one. That got lost somewhere, along with ticket prices and the very thing this song represents.
I think I paid like $6.00 to see them back then
Mary Gleason "That got lost somewhere, along with ticket prices and the very thing this song represents". tears...
Still, LIVE versions are always so much better. I graduated in '69 and we also saw many a live concert for free, even tho very worthy of a ticket price. Ah, the golden days.
Yup, Mary-that's the way it was. We'll never see that again.
Lauren Allen Don’t despair - it still happens. Just in seemingly smaller & smaller spaces and less often but I've seen that the flame is still alive and has passed onto a younger generation.

I'm still playing this on my keyboard 50 years later. I'm still not Steve Winwood.
You are probably closer than most of us!!
Roger Hawkins is the man on drums here...whole band brilliant! Roger was also the house drummer at Muscle Shoals Studios forever.
I like him! Totally comfortable on stage, bookish mien and doing his part well.
Hi there, thanks a lot for the drummers name ✨🥁✨🥁✨🥁✨🥁✨🥁✨🥁✨🥁✨
So was the bassist here: Dave Hood. The Swampers.
I would sneak out at midnight with my brother and burn one in 1973. Then listen to this song at 2:00 am .I miss those days and my brother.
So cool to see incredible music performed live...a pleasure....nothing compares...
After seeing a few clips of the American Music Awards the other night, one can only wonder what the hell happened to the musical brilliance we grew up with. It all seems to have ended up one bad nightmare.......'mglad tohave had this in my life
The American Music Awards is about "pop" music. Traffic were never "pop." While true that during the mid to late 60s and most of the 70s "pop" music was largely driven by the influence of rock, it is a mistake to confuse the two. Just as the pop music of the 40s and much of the fifties was driven by swing, and pop in the 90s was driven by hip hop, don't expect "pop" to rise to the level of the music that influences it.
The American Music Awards is about bubble gum pop music, no substance, no talent and no message!
It’s now all about Money and profit Instead of TALENT !
'the man in the suit has just bought a new suit on the profit he's made from yur dreams'
there's still good music, trust me. It's just not on the radio or tv, you gotta find it :) get out there
Man, we took so much for granted back in my day! Saw them do this live and so many great bands at the Fillmore East and Madison Garden as a kid. History in the making. Thought it would last forever. Showing my age here.
Haha u an me both.no worries
right, who could have predicted? I thought that was just how life was...
Hind sight is 20 / 20 , the best music has already been made . Please prove me wrong.
My older brother Al bought me the vinyl copy when I was just 12 years old as a Christmas present and I fell in love with this album instantly. The gift that keeps on giving. Thanks brother mine!
I’m 72 and they were one of my favorites, very unique and talented! Steve Winwood was playing at Humphreys in San Diego about ten years ago.Even though he had a band with him, He didn’t need anyone else! Fantastic performer!!!!
Chris Wood was the unsung hero of this band. He is amazing here.
Trainwreck.
A musician's musician he was
Steve Winwood?? Idiot get your people straight
Ummm I know who Steve Winwood is dumbass
@@martinkent333 Undoubtedly, Chris was a train wreck. But, if you look at what he contributed to the band when playing, he was huge part. They wouldn't have been Traffic without him, especially on Low Spark and John Barleycorn.
Stevie still feeds my soul...45 yrs later
Have become fascinated by Chris Wood's contribution. So many Traffic songs owe their uniqueness to the flute or sax parts.
I love this song 🎵 ❤️. I probably heard it a long time ago, but all of a sudden I love to listen to all the earlier songs. Makes me feel young! Turning "Double 7s" in 6 days and still feel soooicyoung when I hear wonderful music like this song! Thanks!
This song has a feel of it just “casually unfolding” as it progresses. A lick added here, a little soloing there, while everyone gets to play the parts they know they have to play. Enjoying that ride.
Was referred to then as Headless Horesemen.
That’s probably how it was intended, very jazzy with plenty of room for improvisation, especially in a live setting. On the “On the Road” live album it takes up all of side 4
It's like the peeling of an onion, it gets stronger with each layer peeled off.
"casually unfolding" Perfect description
Jesus you people have no taste and no conception of decent music. I'm out.
