In high school I had a , get this, a Lido Supreme drum kit. I learned this solo after months of practicing. On a cheap 5 piece kit I pulled it off at a high school dance. I’ll never forget the applause at the end. One of those moments that really paid off.
I remember hearing this song when I was small. I am speechless when I listen to it now. It is just so magnetic and awesome. These are the greatest men in the music world that I respect the most. Just beautiful music. Amazing. God bless them and their families.
In 1968 I was in the 4th grade, my class had a birthday party for me. My teacher, Mrs. Goseco said I could play any music I wanted on her record player, I brought in my Iron Butterfly album and had her play all 17:01 minutes of In A Gadda Da Vida. She smiled. She looked at me differently after that.

in music class we were allowed to bring music from home the last day of school before summer, i got pulled out of 4th grade music class and sent to the principles office for bringing in jethro tull aqualung.. i was sure mrs hand would appreciate the flute , she yanked the needle off so fast she scratched my big sisters album. i dont think the 40 year old woman could understand the lyrics as well as a 9 year old boy.

On the one hand, the song is nothing without Doug’s signature baritone. On the other hand, I saw the video of a 1995 SF show with Ingle back in the fold and it was kinda depressing to watch how way past their prime these guys were even in the mid-nineties. So I can see how Bushey wanted to continue to play out with some new blood standing in. Hate to say it, but Iron Butterfly should’ve stayed disbanded after 1971. I wouldn’t want to tarnish my band’s legacy to that of a nostalgia act. But it’s cool that they have fans still showing up to see them after all these years so that’s just me.

Although this track suffers somewhat from overfamiliarity, it can't be denied this was a very adventurous piece of music for its time, and remains a classic ; nice to hear once a year and soak up those atmospheric 1968 days again..
