After spending a few days at Fradley Junction visitor moorings I continued my cruise along the Coventry Canal to Fradley Junction where I joined the Trent and Mersey Canal. Enjoying some sunny days I slowly cruised to Armitage in Handsacre where I stopped for the night opposite the huge Armitage Shanks factory complex. The company
was started in 1817 and is now owned by the American Ideal Standard Group.
From Handsacre I passed through the Armitage Tunnel, or what used to be a tunnel as the roof was opened up in the 1970s due to subsidence and moved on to Rugeley once known for its coal mining and these days for the power station that was built between 1965 and 1970. It closed down in 2016 and it is now considered a historic building.
This part of my summer cruise ends in Great Haywood.

Great video! The Trent & Mersey is really an underrated canal! Would love to see the Armitage Shanks works!!
I must admit I have really enjoyed the Trent and Mersey cruising in both directions from Fradley Junction and agree it’s underrated. 👍
Looking forward to Scarecastle Tunnel. The roof gets lower and lower as one passes through.
Lovely video , I have to ask I’m being nosey🙄 , I’ve tried to work out what that object is on your boat roof , the item with tyres or they look like tyres ?
If I had to guess, I would say that is a shopping cart or shopping trolley. Surely a must for up and down the towpath!!
@JustTwoPeople are bang-on. It is a four wheel trolley that folds up and is a clever design. When it is opened up it can carry a huge amount. It makes light work of getting stuff along the towpath. 😃
