Im a Chinese student studying in UK. KFC in China is ok (chicken is a little expensive but at least decently seasoned, the crust is not enough tho). KFC in UK is on another f level that after 2 or 3 times I decided that since there's no Jollibee in my city, I MUST MAKE MY OWN FRIED CHICKEN. And I'm not even sure I put in the exact same amount of spices compared to Josh's recipe, it is still TASTY AF. This is a must try recipe.

@@stanvanillo9831 Not just a show - quality varies wildly based on restaurant practices. Some places actually enforce rules about throwing out food that's been on the warmer for too long...some just say 'It's legally allowable, so it's fine.' The difference between doing what's acceptable practice and taking pride in your work. Probably the difference of employee appreciation, high volume sales and proper planning in operation, as well. A KFC would have more-fresh chicken in the evenings, when everyone is ordering chicken.

It is often a big problem for people who cook deliciously to eat in a restaurant because in most cases you get something that you would cook better yourself at home! 😆
Restaurants exist to save people time. If you think about your hourly wage and the amount of time it takes to make this meal, it probably makes way more sense to get it from a restaurant, unless it's a special occasion.

when cabbage is cut it releases its juices that contain lactic acid, the longer it sits in its juices the more "sour" it gets. sauerkraut is literally sliced cabbage fermenting in the lactic acid of its juices
Nope. Cabbage juice is pH neutral. While the sauer in sauerkraut is largely lactic acid, it’s produced by the bacteria and yeast on the surface of the vegetable metabolizing the sugars and starches in the vegetable. Because red cabbage juice is pH neutral and contains several pH sensitive color compounds, it’s a popular science activity for children to use it as a pH indicator.
"Cook's Illustrated" turned me on to putting butter in a freezer (for 15-30 minutes) and then grating it into one's biscuit flour. That approach seems to work pretty well for me, for getting the requisite flaky layers. Also, I swear by cream cheese in one's mashed potatoes.
THAT SOUNDS SO SMART OMG I hate using food processors since I feel it’s annoying to clean, and I’d rather use a bowl and whisk/my hands if possible lol
One of the last memories I have of my grandmother was when she was in hospice care with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and I was sitting by her side while we ate KFC that we picked up on the way to see her because, hey she can't keep any food down so it might as well be something she enjoyed. I was probably 12 or 13 at the time and sat by her side and spoon fed her some macaroni and cheese because she was too weak to eat much herself. So yes I agree, KFC is definitely hospital food

I worked at Red Robin’s. It is not fancy, its all fast food. All of the fried foods were frozen first and the beef was not that good. The only thing that was actually good quality was the grilled chicken. Chef “mike” works there.
You don't need to think at all as a cook at Red Robin, there's a conveyor broiler with 2 different belt speeds for some pink or no pink, then you just drop the patty on the grill and sear it.
I wish Josh would make more videos about more complex dishes. I like fast food as much as the next guy, but I'd love to see dishes that have more technique involved. Especially considering how talented Josh is.
It may just be me or the fact I live in Australia but I always find that fast food in America is always described as being bad when down under it's honestly great.

I actually really liked KFC back in the states. I live in Japan now and KFC is absolutely atrocious here (seasoning on the chicken is different and it's greasier, no mashed potatoes and gravy, no Mac n cheese, coleslaw comes in the tiniest cup, biscuits are on the sweeter side), so I'm really happy to see a video for all of my favorites from KFC 🥺 hopefully my husband and I can recreate this sometime 😌

The herbs and spices set KFC apart from the others. Even though they are failing in the fry, and I swear to myself, “never again”, the flavour draws me back in.
KFC is my favorite fast food restaurant, and I can't believe they gave you dry chicken. It's typically the exact opposite and the skin is so wet that it comes off with a simple touch 😂
dry chicken, not dry skin. The meat itself is dry, the skin indeed is soft. Though I share your confusion, the KFC around where I live I find the chicken to be quite fine, nothing spectacular bgut defiantely not dry. And I don't know what they're talking about with "sour" taste in the coleslaw, because the coleslaw we get from KFC when we go there is not sour at all, it's a bit sweet and slightly acidic, but not sour. Do they just happen to have a terrible KFC near them or do I just have an above average one near me...
To make the gravy closer to theirs you could have taken the bits of dredge from the bottom of the oil after cooking the chicken and blended them into a paste to help thicken and flavor.
KFC Gravy in England is pimp. They make it with the scraps of chicken from the fryer. Sounds crazy but it’s insane. Only issue is it’s inconsistent as it’s made fresh and differs depending on which store you go to. Would love to see a recipe on it.

Remember, Harland Sanders (the man who invented KFC) became highly critical of the company he sold the rights & the recipe to. Saying that the company cut costs & allowed quality to deteriorate. He described the new KFC as “slop” and called the gravy “sludge with a wall-paper taste”

It's weird how different and better KFC is here in Poland then in other countries, chickens are so juicy and crunchy that you not gonna believe me how much better they are.

While testing, you should make sure that all the items are at the same temperature. Because, just prepared will be at a higher temperature and thus easy to identify.
You can't be serious. You don't need a scientific study to assume that home cooked food is better than KFC. The "test" is a formality to wrap up the show.
My dad would take us to KFC when I was little and know I prefer Popeyes also could you do a little Caesar’s but better please this video gave me the idea also love your videos
Hah when I worked for KFC 17 years ago the food wasn't that bad as fast food goes. The extra crispy was really crispy and the chicken wasn't dry. My guess is that they gave you chicken that sat in the warmer too long. That or they put the extra crispy in the original chicken warmer which uses a moist heat instead of dry heat. The biscuits are frozen buttermilk biscuits. The mashed potatoes are Instant and the gravy is also instant. The green beans are canned and then mixed with a dry seasoning packet when they are opened and then microwaved. Honestly the only veg that is actually fresh are the tomatoes and lettuce that is used for the sandwiches and the coleslaw. The slaw only has a 36 hour shelf life if I remember correctly. I know in my store we mixed the slaw every night and anything left over the next night was frozen and picked up by the local homeless shelter at the end of the week and the same with any other food that was approaching the hold time limit. Both the extra crispy and the original chicken use prepackaged seasoning mix sent from the company warehouses to keep the recipe secret. I can say that the original chicken recipe also uses a powdered egg mix as well. I can tell you that my store followed all food safety guidelines. That is most likely due to management caring more about the customer than their quarterly bonus.
As someone who normally rolls his eyes at how much Josh trashes the fast food, I got a sweet feeling of vindication when he said this was one of the worst things he's had. KFC is very bad.
I had pretty much given up on KFC many years ago, it just got too gross. Went to visit a friend who lives in Kentucky. We had to bring food for a lunch picnic with some other mutual friends. Couldn't believe it when she stopped at a KFC on the way. My expectations were way low as we put the food out. Then a heavenly choir began to sing and rainbows flooded my brain as I bit into a piece of that chicken. OMG...best KFC ever, even better than what I remembered from my teen years back in the 70s. I bet ol' Harland Sanders was smiling down on us that day. I'm pretty sure KFCs in Kentucky aren't allowed to produce bad food. There'd be lynchings and all... 😁
What about other fast food chains? In the US it's just a general rule that fast food is gonna be made as cheaply as possible. There's some higher quality ones and people have their favorites, but the majority are terrible compared to a real restaurant. My parents literally didn't let me have KFC growing up so I can't make the comparison, but maybe that tells you something haha
They keep talking about how sour the coleslaw tastes -- I'm wondering if they got a batch where the dressing had gone bad. It's usually at least edible. Not amazing, but not gag-inducing.
Sadly, I've never met anyone that could match KFC's chicken and I don't think the one in this video will. But also, KFC in the Netherlands is awesome! Not dry, and as I said before the taste is unmatched. People always boast that they can make it, but it's NEVER the same. It also has a really distinct aroma that you will immediately recognise as KFC
To anyone and everyone: TRY THIS RECIPE. I just did. It’s life changing. My mouth has never in my life tasted such fine cuisine. My tastebuds are bursting with flavour. My only suggestion is you add a little bit of spice to it. Slap that baby on a burger bun with some lettuce and mayo, thank. Me. Later.
Corporate greed, even the kernel sued the company after he left because he was so disappointed they made it worse to save money. There is a whole story that he made a different food place in his wifes name, KFC sued Kernel for using their name and he sued them for using his face.
I have one upgrade to that biscuit technique. It is exactly how I make mine but I skip the re-rolling and extra handling by not making my biscuits round. They are square. Every biscuit perfect.

Thanks for the Jollibee shoutout, Papa Josh! 🤗
P.S.: KFC chicken in the Philippines is saltier since we usually pair it with rice. Not to mention that we treat the Colonel's gravy like soup over rice.
In Thailand, KFC is very inconsistent... Some are Perfect, Some are just like in this video.
sabaw na may kpnting kanin at chicken HAHAHAHaH
I love that you also include the metric measurements! It makes it so much easier to make these recipes!
I'd love to see your take on a classic british afternoon tea!
I hope he sees this!
Well he just made scones....
My 3 yr old grandson loves watching your videos with me. I asked him what he wanted to watch tonight, and he said cooking movies (meaning your videos) 😍 so cute. He really loves your humor.
I honestly think you might have just gone to a really bad KFC, the one I usually went to had crispy and juicy chicken, and the food in general was pretty fresh.
The problem with fast food franchises is that it varies way too much location to location
@@bloxer9563 Exaclty! Burguer King in Europe is soooo goood. Nothing compared to what I see in these type of videos which generally are in USA😕
@@bloxer9563 the point of fast food is consistency across locations, but in practice it is often very different.
its definitely a location thing. the stuff you get in mcdonalds india or kfc etc. just looks and tastes way better than the usa burgers which just look crushed
Since Girl Scout season is coming up, why don’t you try making Girl Scouts Cookies But Better? You could go for the classic Thin Mints, but it would be interesting to see you tackle Tagalongs and Caramel DeLites as well
I would love to see this!!
Is girl scout season anything like deer season?
didnt girl scout season end in febuary???
@@retna1x363 cookie season is different everywhere from what I’ve figured out. They rotate “seasons” by region. I think it’s so manufacturing of the cookies is not overwhelmed during only 1 part of the year.
@@razzymom12564 oh ok. My daughter has done girl scouts but I didn't know it was different in other regions.
It is often a big problem for people who cook deliciously to eat in a restaurant because in most cases you get something that you would cook better yourself at home! 😆
That and if I make it at home, I can usually get a lot more for the same price
Restaurants exist to save people time. If you think about your hourly wage and the amount of time it takes to make this meal, it probably makes way more sense to get it from a restaurant, unless it's a special occasion.
@@keithhasafastcar Six Schloztsky's original sandwiches at home including the buns costs what 1 does at the window. Panda Express, hands down cheaper at home. Any real restaurant vs scratch homemade is an embarrassing price savings.
@@bettyir4302 Youre neglecting a restaurants capability to purchase food in bulk and cook at scale. FAST FOOD restaurants exist to save you time. A real restaurant does not have nearly the profit margins industrial fast food chains do. Plus restaurants have more direct access to fresh produce and get first dibs from butchers since thats where so much of their demand comes from.
My wife agrees with you. She doesn't like going to restaurants for the food, she says that my cooking is always better. I want to go to restaurants also for ideas but also so I don't have to cook all the time. :D
Yes to Jollibee 💜 Spicy chicken with gravy, spaghetti and peach mango pie 🥰
+1 for Jollibee!! lmao
Me and my dad absolutely love watching these videos and cooking it together thanks for all the amazing lunches with my father
when cabbage is cut it releases its juices that contain lactic acid, the longer it sits in its juices the more "sour" it gets. sauerkraut is literally sliced cabbage fermenting in the lactic acid of its juices
Hey, thanks for frozen butter trick, that sounds great for people without a food processor.
You are Awesome my kids and I are out of the country for now and really miss home your videos have helped us keep in touch with the Fast food made better!!! amazing love it... I loved every single recipe you have made
Okay... just made the chicken last weekend. Best *expletive* chicken EVER!! I mean in the history of humanity! I don need no steenkin biscuits... I don need no steenkin gravy... and I don need no steenkin mashed potatoes! This chicken stands alone. Crispy, crunchy PERFECTION!!! Well done.
Hey Josh! I would love to see some of your takes on African dishes. Love your channel❤❤
I would love to see a “Red Robin” but better! because it’s still fast food but fancier fast food.
I worked at Red Robin’s. It is not fancy, its all fast food. All of the fried foods were frozen first and the beef was not that good. The only thing that was actually good quality was the grilled chicken. Chef “mike” works there.
Red Robin is so nasty
You don't need to think at all as a cook at Red Robin, there's a conveyor broiler with 2 different belt speeds for some pink or no pink, then you just drop the patty on the grill and sear it.
Agreed! Especially if he does one of their fancy lemonades alongside it.
@@malachyte_art Lol it's minute maid with strawberry preserves or other flavor syrup
I wish Josh would make more videos about more complex dishes. I like fast food as much as the next guy, but I'd love to see dishes that have more technique involved. Especially considering how talented Josh is.
Then you look at this other Playlists. He has hundreds of great recipes.
Josh you have no idea how much I like the new deep fry pan over the old one
Ps. Cool merch PAPAH IS SUAVE
It may just be me or the fact I live in Australia but I always find that fast food in America is always described as being bad when down under it's honestly great.
Never thought we'd get a video with chicken sounds censoring the swears. It's been ages since I last heard something like that.
Thanks for the entertainment, Josh.
The recipe looks great, too.
This series could be called "We got it at home"!
Also, I just want to say, it is solely because of your recipes that I now keep a container of MSG in my spice cabinet. For that, I cannot thank you enough!
He moves so smooth Finessing whole way. Makes it look so easy care free.
Since i ever started watching but better, i always think twice before ordering food, and start thinking to make it at home!
As a Filipino, I appreciate the Jollibee shoutout, Josh! 🙌🏼

When I make Papa’s fried chicken it’s like my grandmother’s recipe turbocharged. I’m stoked to make this for my family
Josh inspires me sooo much man
The herbs and spices set KFC apart from the others. Even though they are failing in the fry, and I swear to myself, “never again”, the flavour draws me back in.
lets face it, the $4 worth of 8 pieces in a bucket that they sell for $30 now just is total ripoff. just sayin.
OK !! The KFC near me has juicy chicken with soft fried skin😂😂😂 never had dry kfc chicken maybe a dry biscuit but never chicken
Made your recipes to night and every one loved it thanks so much 😀😀😀

3:03 This scene made me laugh so hard 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
To make the gravy closer to theirs you could have taken the bits of dredge from the bottom of the oil after cooking the chicken and blended them into a paste to help thicken and flavor.
Ah yes, the legendary brown sloppy gold as what Babish said xD
The M.S.G. Part is why I love this channal
Best comedian/chef 😂😂🙏🏽
KFC Gravy in England is pimp. They make it with the scraps of chicken from the fryer. Sounds crazy but it’s insane. Only issue is it’s inconsistent as it’s made fresh and differs depending on which store you go to. Would love to see a recipe on it.
Not anymore. Its just water and powder now
Oh I wish you would've made the pot pie too! Everything looked delicious.

Hey Josh,

But I also try to eat less meat for a few weeks now and was wondering if you got some delicious recipes for vegetarian food aswell.
Would love to seem videos like this, because I am sure you could step up this game with your skills aswell.

I died at the 2 and a half quarts of coke slaw 😂😂😂
Remember, Harland Sanders (the man who invented KFC) became highly critical of the company he sold the rights & the recipe to. Saying that the company cut costs & allowed quality to deteriorate.
He described the new KFC as “slop” and called the gravy “sludge with a wall-paper taste”
I absolutely love the editing on this video.
Josh, being an Aussie, the use of the word ‘Wanker’ was perfect. Where did you learn this? Hahaha
You are my favourite

Josh, I'd love to see more gluten free alternative recipes as well, for all of us struggling with celiac disease.
ive been able to follow along well using a gluten free flour mix 1:1 replacement. the best ive found is king arthur's gluten free all purpose flour! one thing i'd try is using egg in the marinade to help hold the crust together once you dip it in the flour mixture.
I tried the recipe and it was awesomeness🔥🔥🔥 thanks man, I subbed.
It's weird how different and better KFC is here in Poland then in other countries, chickens are so juicy and crunchy that you not gonna believe me how much better they are.
You should try KFC in 🇯🇲 Jamaica. It taste way better! I promise. I think you should do a bit better series in Jamaica actually. ❤

who knows. it's probably better to do this though because if he feels like he wants to quit youtube you can still get the passive income from the videos.

While testing, you should make sure that all the items are at the same temperature. Because, just prepared will be at a higher temperature and thus easy to identify.
Somehow I don't think its much of a scientific blind taste test between them.
I'm sure all of it has gone quite nearly cold after all the setting up and shooting so it'll be around the same temp
@@tcrmn I am too sure about it. The makers should ensure if they want us to trust the 'blind-taste'.
You can't be serious. You don't need a scientific study to assume that home cooked food is better than KFC. The "test" is a formality to wrap up the show.
not bad mashed potatoes, i was not expecting that butter to go with it
"VERY NICE"
Me watching this as if I know anything about cooking: Mhm, yep yep looks nice to me, yep and make sure to add that as well, can't forget that!
My dad would take us to KFC when I was little and know I prefer Popeyes also could you do a little Caesar’s but better please this video gave me the idea also love your videos

Bruh his chicken is black bro its burnt

This is an idea I can totally get behind! I would buy a dozen! 💗
The slaw having a short shelf life in fact anything with a short shelf life is a good thing, means no preservative
the little shoutout to Jollibee, we got this man's heart now

Really, really bad. But I’m sure those corporate profits are great!
Kfc were i live god tier
i make gravy with gravy granules, butter and lots of pepper. tastes amazing
I wonder how different KFC is in the US. Here in France it's a go-to for me and my friends, we love KFC
Same here in Germany and I have never experienced KFC food being that bad or god forbid, their chicken being dry? Really makes you wonder...
im from Canada, where i live its really good ^_^ its location n the people that work there :3
What about other fast food chains? In the US it's just a general rule that fast food is gonna be made as cheaply as possible. There's some higher quality ones and people have their favorites, but the majority are terrible compared to a real restaurant.
My parents literally didn't let me have KFC growing up so I can't make the comparison, but maybe that tells you something haha
it’s bc 90% of the food in the us is processed. anytime ive ever been to europe, i never have the stomach issues i have when i’m here in the US.
They keep talking about how sour the coleslaw tastes -- I'm wondering if they got a batch where the dressing had gone bad. It's usually at least edible. Not amazing, but not gag-inducing.
They needed to get rid of the rotten slaw, hence the messed up order. But all restaurant slaw is awful, imo.
Wouldn't be nice if we get a behind the scenes, not heavy edited version of one of the videos. I bet it would be entertaining to watch.
YOU ARE THE MAN MAN😆💜
It’s not the foods fault it’s the workers inside the building 👏🏻

Sadly, I've never met anyone that could match KFC's chicken and I don't think the one in this video will. But also, KFC in the Netherlands is awesome! Not dry, and as I said before the taste is unmatched. People always boast that they can make it, but it's NEVER the same. It also has a really distinct aroma that you will immediately recognise as KFC
All the jokes with the salad make laugh a lot, I don't know why the KFC Salad Jokes make me laugh so much.
Me. Later.
I am here 3 months later and I still see that KFC messes up orders EVEN IN DIFFERENT STATES. Nothing has changed smh.
I like the comparison but can you do at theirs level for millions of customers a day ? (At least nationwide)
KFC in Asia and Europe slaps. The KFC in the states is dog food. Idk what's wrong with that company honestly.
It's not the company itself it's the owners of each restaurant some restaurants actually do good some don't here in maine KFC is good
Corporate greed, even the kernel sued the company after he left because he was so disappointed they made it worse to save money.
There is a whole story that he made a different food place in his wifes name, KFC sued Kernel for using their name and he sued them for using his face.

It really depends on which location you visit since every franchisee does stuff differently and has different managers.
I have one upgrade to that biscuit technique. It is exactly how I make mine but I skip the re-rolling and extra handling by not making my biscuits round. They are square. Every biscuit perfect.
i miss josh's old series
As an Englishman it's strange to see KFC being served with what's essentially a savoury scone. It's probably a good mix though, so who knows?

KFC can keep the brown gravy and everything else. Not much is better than a "biscuit" with creamed sausage gravy. Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
