  • Making the perfect fried chicken as we know it - juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside - used to be a luxury. But a man named Harland Sanders changed that after mastering his own recipe - inside a gas station.

It is sad that Kentucky Fried Chicken is gone. When they changed to to KFC they shortcutted everything from the way the Chicken was deep-fried to the way the mashed potatoes were made. I was fortunate to have worked at a Kentucky Fried Chicken in the early 80's.

1973 in Lexington Kentucky, I lived next door to an elderly lady named Eula Gibson. In the early days, Colonel Sanders employed her to create recipes for his restaurant in Corbin Kentucky. In 1973, only 3 people knew the recipe for KFC chicken… Sanders, Eula Gibson and one other (unknown). It is highly likely that Mrs. Gibson created the recipe and not Colonel Sanders. As a kid, she would make KFC chicken at home for me and her 7 year old grandson Ford Gibson. 🍗🍗🍗

Unlike any other competitor, whose chicken can be easily replicated at home, KFC has stood the test of time. To make it at home, you have to get the seasoning right(which is still a secret). That's not just a mystery (though some have gotten mighty close), but also is a question of the adhesion. It has to blend into the flour perfectly also. Then, you have to cook it right. The cooking time has to be precise. Most of all, you have to have a pressure cooker. Good luck on that; they're expensive, hard to set up, hard to clean, and hazardous if you're not careful.
