What monitor size is best?
Now to get to the bottom of this ancient enigma we must first understand the fundamentals of a great viewing experience which can be broken down into Pixels Per Degree, Distance, and Field Of View.
Now PPD unlike PPI actually is a very relevant metric when determining the size of display you want as not only do we have oodles of data breaking down how much PPD an average human can appreciate, but unlike PPI which simply tells you how many pixels are jammed into a certain area, this measurement takes into account the distance you will be viewing the display as well, making it actually fairly informative.
Now yes, you can still technically have a poor looking image with a high PPD if it’s a low resolution small screen held far away, but regardless, for high resolution displays viewed at a reasonable distance, this metric is definitely useful, since we know based on research that an ideal display will have at least a 60PPD metric to avoid visible pixelization for the average person, and in my testing I needed a PPD of around 80 to eliminate any visible blur, and have a perfectly sharp image.
But now we have to talk about the distance you’ll be viewing your monitor which can be just as important. Now this will be a highly subjective metric, but most would agree that roughly somewhere around 2 feet, which is almost exactly my preferred distance from a 32” monitor. However, likely anywhere between 1.5 to 3 feet would be considered a reasonable viewing distance for the average monitor depending on the size, though keep in mind, a really large display may need more.

thanks for helping me on Patreon bro! A while back but helped me a lot with my Odysee 49 in. oled.
AYYO why is the measure tape marked at 3 inchs?
He's manifesting
😂
I use two 27" 4K monitors, sitting fairly close; it works good for me. That's why I need a 27" 4K OLED in 240 Hz or better. Thumbs up.
I've got a 1440p 27 OLED I really want the 4K OLED but I think 32 in too big for me I play PVP mainly on that screen bigger screen I play single player do you think they will bring out a 4K OLED in 27 inch
I use a 49" 32:9 240Hz Samsung Odyssey G9 and sit about 1-1,5 meter away, absolutely perfect.
Is 27" for 4K enough? Isn't better 32"? I want to do the jump from 1080p to 4K but i only found the 27" ones at a good price range so... is a good resolution for that size?
I still think 24 inches is the best for me. Even after using 27 inch monitors for 3 years i still cannot get used to that size. Wish there were 24 inch 1440p 360hz oleds but alas
For me personally, around 27” in 4K is the sweet spot for me. I’m using a 31,5” QD-OLED 4K right now because there are no 27” monitors with the same specs. But if there was a 27” option I’d replace my 32” monitor easily. That additional PPI and smaller FOV is important for me.
Without knowing I was on the sweet spot with a 27” 1440p panel sitting at 30” away most times 😮
32 inch is just too much when sitting not even 2 feet away from the screen...I just bought the MSI OLED and am returning it because it's just burning my eyes...also can't see everything at once..
OLED gaming monitors are unnecessary..yes it's beautiful but meh
the new 4K 27" OLED with the new RGB color will be the one I want... come early 2025 ... thatll be the dream . why is it burning your eyes?
@@mjregan88 BURNING CANT BUY AN OLED
@@mjregan88how about Asus PG27AQDP 1440p 480Hz WOLED monitor?
Thx, even though I loved my ultrawide 1440p 34, I've always been bothered by the lack of sharpness. This video finally answered my question about whether I should pick a 4k 32 instead..
Glad I could help!
I have a 1440p 360hz 27” monitor and it’s great but honestly I fee like I should go back to 24” I feel like I’ve gotten mechanically much better at my games but sometimes it feels like I am slow to react to things and my hud on games brings my eyes far away from the middle so I die a lot
It´s not just the visual fidelity it´s also price and GPU power needed to drive the display.
I chose 1440p because I wanted a bigger 27in screen with better resolution and the 1440p resolution is a sweet spot here.
I would upgrade to 4K and 32in wide screen IF the GPU prices and performance were a lot better. But it isn´t just yet, maybe in 5 years or so.
I have a 27" 1440p monitor that I view from 20" away. So that makes my FOV 43 degrees and PPD 49 which according to your numbers isn't ideal, but it does look great. If I make the PPD be 60 it would put the monitor too far away for immersion. I actually wish I had a 32" 1440p monitor viewing it from the same distance for more immersion but that would make the numbers even worse so I don't know.
Yes, unfortunately 1440p has to sacrifice something significantly. Either PPD or FOV. And it will always have less detail overall.
But that’s why they are more affordable & easier to drive for games.
@@thedisplayguy Thanks for the reply. It helped me to understand it better.
props for the headset, im using the same at the moment ;)
Everything is determined by how close you sit and usual desk size the perfect monitor is 32in. Preferably 4k.
xduoo headphone amp, and hifiman headphones? I see you are also a man of great audio taste.
Damn I need one of those ruipro cables .. looks great
The best Horizontal FOV for me to play FPS is 50 degrees, for modern long screen movies and TV shows it does need to be 50-60 degrees to get the same immersion due to the black edges that would be above and below the standard 16:9 but but the best for viewing old standard 16:9 full screen content is 38 degrees otherwise I would miss some edge detail.
I own 4 monitors 2 27" ips the Dell alienware Aw2723df1440p 280hz and the Asus 1440 360hz and 1 Dell alienware oled 27" 1440p 360hz. Havin said that i Enjoy FPS games the ABSOLUTE MOST gaming on my 4th monitor which is 24" 1440p 165hz AOC Q24G2A with 123ppi . Weirdest thing ever, seems 24" is where i tend to have the 100% of my best aim while peripheral vision on point.
i have an 32 inch curved monitor right now and its great but for heavy gamers its not great because of visibility, u start not being able to see the whole information on the screen at once meaning you gotta divert attention from the center to the edges. Sucks for mobas or shooters
Good job i just picked up the 240hz 32" alienware oled. Lettttsssss talk about it!
I actually really like having my monitor take up a very small area of my FOV. I have a 27 inch monitor and mainly like to recline my chair back giving my about 5ft of space between my eyes and the display. I usually game sitting up around 2.8-3ft away and to me that is getting a bit much for my view. I've noticed taking up more area than that means uncomfortably shifting my eyes around the screen and a slight feeling of claustrophobia.
Are you going to make a review of the new 480hz oled monitor?
Yes soon.
55 inch is the best :) Just need to put it on a monitor stand with wheels and keep it a bit far from you. Helps keep your eyes sight sharp too since you're not straining your eyes looking at a screen that's too close all day.
I was on the 49" 240hz samsung super ultrawide and it was great but felt bad for productivity work since it lacked vertical screen real estate. Moved to an S90c 55" and it's insane how good it is. (worse for competitive fps but better for pretty much everything else)
I had 32” 4K and I broke it, now I have 1440P 27” and I don’t miss a thing, I’m pretty close under 1 meter…
rip
@@b1zzler It is a interesting thing that's it :P
@@NedimTabakovic Do u feel like 32 inch was better or 27 is enough
cause i am building a setup with rtx 4070 which is a 2K card
definitely getting a 1440p minimum but im confused about 27inch is enough or 32inch
@@DawnFM-t2u I sit pretty close to wall mounted monitor about half meter, it is more than enough if you are like one meter 32 is great
32 is way cooler for productivity and a cleaner look because I can get of that 2nd screen. But in every other regard incl. price it´s worse. I doubt you will notice a difference in resolution but you will notice a difference in price for the GPU monitor and electricity bill. For me personally it isn´t worth it. I am not paying more than $400 for a GPU ever. I remember when mid price GPU used to be $250.

Hey a question is the Samsung Odyssey OLED G6 G60SD a ok monitor?
The 3 inch mark☠️ blud gave us too much info on this one😂
need to buy myself a monitor arm to push my monitor further away apparently
Both. 31.5” 4K 240Hz QD-OLED for single player titles and 26.5” 1440P 480Hz WOLED for FPS titles.
83 inch oled is best size for monitor
i am blind on right eye what is the distance on 27inch oled 360hz ?
What is a 2 feet distance?
1 Feet = 32cm therefore 2 feet = around 65cm
24 inches.
1080p 24 inch,
1440p 27 inch,
4K 27 or 32 inch, pro-gramer probably 27 inch, if you have enough place, 32 inch is fine.
Are there any high resolution oled monitors (5120px by 2160px) with a decent ppi available or is it only 4K and below?
34 inch ultrawide is best for me
i LOVE my Samsung Oddysee 49" OLED but I admit it does suck when playing games that a HUD is very important. It does draw your eyes away from the action and has caused a lot of premature kills in PUBG and Warzone. For some reason I have had ZERO trouble with RDR2 and Starfield.. This monitor is incredible though at the end of the day and I love it!
I should make a video for UW because the calculations are a bit different.
In warzone, you can adjust the hud and move the elements to the center basically making the hud 16:9. Not sure about pubg though.
@@thedisplayguy that would be awesome 👌!
@Grit.87 so I can still play UW bit can move the HUD more towards the middle??
@@ultimatesunriseyes in most games u can
irrelevant video, the real answer is: glue your eyes directly on to the display if you are a real gamer

27 - 150 fps. 32 - 60 fps.

Ultrawide. I am not kidding, 21:9 is the best aspect ratio and I can never go back to 16:9. Ik some content doesn't support it but a lot of them do, and it feels amazing when it does work. Black myth wukong looks so good
Has benefits and negatives. The biggest benefit is added immersion of filling peripheral vision.
@@thedisplayguy Agreed, I hope it becomes mainstream someday
Idk, I play my triple As on a 55 inches tv, with a wider field of view, so I get more horizontal AND vertical fov, and that is pretty immersive. Maybe the PPI is not that good because a 4k 55" is same PPI as a 27" 1080p monitor, but it is good enough, and the tv has another advantage, having its own processor it can upscale 1440p input to 4k quite nicely. Also I use it for productivity, its basically 4 27" stacked up without borders. I play only competitive games on a fast monitor, and most do not support ultrawide.
i think 32 inch 1440p glossy would be the perfect monitor for me
