Blót (Old Norse) and blōt or geblōt (Old English) are terms for "blood sacrifice" in Norse paganism and Anglo-Saxon paganism respectively. A comparanda can also be reconstructed for wider Germanic paganism.
A blót could be dedicated to any of the Germanic gods, the spirits of the land, and to ancestors. The sacrifice involved aspects of a sacramental meal or feast. The verb blóta meant "to worship with blood sacrifice", or "to strengthen". The written sources and the archaeological record indicate that in Old Norse religious practice the sacrifice of animals, particularly pigs and horses, played a significant part in the blót. More than just a simple sacrifice, the blót was central to all the ritual activities that took place in Norse sacral structures. Closer in conception to a gift, the blót usually involved killing animals, and sometimes humans, in ritual fashion with their blood being poured into bowls or onto stones. Twigs were dipped into the liquid and shaken, throwing a spray onto the onlookers and the buildings. At the temple-hall of Hofstaðir in northern Iceland, oxen were decapitated in seasonal rituals for many years. Osteological analysis of the bones shows that the animals were killed with blows to the neck by axe or sword. This method was intended to produce the spectacle of a shower of arterial blood.
The ritual killing of animals was followed by feasts on the meat, as described in the Eddic and Scaldic poetry, the Icelandic sagas, and on rune stones. The meat was boiled in large cooking pits with heated stones, either indoors or outdoors, and ale or mead (mjöð) was drunk in the ceremony.
In Hákonar saga Góða, (Saga of Hákon the Good) in Snorri Sturlason's Heimskringla, Earl Sigurđr of Hlađir (Earl Hákon's father) is said to have given a great sacrificial feast at Hlađir, and to have borne its entire expense. The passage states that it was the duty of the chieftain who provided the feast to consecrate the ale and all the sacrificial meat.Such feasts are usually called by the Old Norse blótzveizla in the texts.
Snorri describes the farmers of Thrándheimr bringing provisions to the temple and sacrificing there. The blood of the slaughtered animals was considered to have special powers and it was sprinkled on the altars, on the walls and on the participants themselves. The chieftain passed a sacrificial cup over the fire and consecrated it along with the food. Beer was drunk and toasts to Óðinn were made for victory in battle, and to Njǫrðr and Freyre for a bountiful harvest and for peace.[9] A similar toast was raised at the celebration of Jól: til árs ok friðar, "for a good harvest, fertility, and peace" (frith).[10]
Sacrificial feasts (blótveizlur, blótdrykkjur) had a prominent place in the ancient religious practices of the Scandinavians, and were part of the seasonal festivals attended by large numbers of people. Family rituals. such as the álfablót in western Sweden mentioned by the Norwegian skald Sigvatr Þórðarson in an early 11th-century poem, were usually performed on farm homesteads.[11]
The written sources speak of sacrifices made of prisoners of war; Roman descriptions of Germanic tribes sacrificing their defeated enemies to Mars or Mercury have a similarity with customs related to the cult of Óðinn in Old Norse religion. The Icelandic skáld Helgi Trausti mentions his killing an enemy as a sacrifice to Óðinn; Egils saga einhenda ok Ásmundar berserkjabana and Orkneyinga saga describe the sacrificing of captive enemies to Óðinn. In depositions of remains found near Uppland, most of the human bodies are of young males with healed bone trauma, a possible congruence with the sacrificed captives of war mentioned in the written corpus. In almost all instances, human sacrifices occurring in the context of the Old Norse texts are related to Óðinn.

Honestly... I really want to move to Norway. I might not have any Northern Germanic blood in me, I actually have Central Germanic and Native American blood but, I've always been fascinated with the Norse. A big part of me really wishes the Norse Paganism became the dominate religion instead of Christianity. I have nothing against Christianity, I was raised Methodist, but... I eventually became spiritual. Even moreso when I started learning more about Wicca, and Norse Paganism. Another big thing is I really love the music groups Eivør, Danheim, Rúnfell, and Heilung, when it comes to Heilung I reaaaallly enjoy In Maidjan. But anyway, I really love your channel! I've learned SO MUCH, and I've even learned the differences between Norway, Danish & Swedish vikings. Keep it up! 🥰

Fortunately the company I work for gives us the summer and winter solstice off as paid holidays and we can take any time off we need for any other ceremonies we need to do that come up in the year. The company is a Canadian Indigenous organization and its important to the company that for those of us that follow the ancestral path have the opportunity to without losing their income. It's written right into our policies and procedures. It's a pretty sweet perk.

we live in the most comfortable time of human history. People that say "oh I want to live like my ancestors" will probably be surprised how hard it was, especially during cold seasons. No plumbing, running water, showers, cellphones, doctors, schools - most people wouldn't last a couple weeks. It's mostly psychological. Just look at SCA events - people can't live without heat in their tent or a cooler, not even for a week-end or a week. And living like you imagine - a village with a few families - has been tried in the 60's and 70's and failed for several reasons. Throwing a bunch of strangers together that have not grown up together or have any family ties doesn't work well with the current population. You are dealing with people that have this belief and lifestyle NOT embedded in them. Their mind will always wander off to wherever it was raised. I live this lifestyle, but by myself, and even then I get setbacks from the "old life".

@@norsemagicandbeliefs8134 I was trying to help out a young kid who is interested in our faith today on Reddit. I linked your channel in the comments and almost immediately got swarmed by SJWs calling you a bigot who doesn't read the sources lmao. They have a "Fake pagans to avoid" excel spreadsheet that they are plastering in every subreddit. You are listed as an unreliable source/bigot and many others like Tom Rowsell from Survive the Jive are listed as well. They even have "proof" of your bigotry linked in the spreadsheet. It's just a link to a comment from the creator of the list on reddit saying that you are a bigot. I got quite a laugh from this person's reasoning in that comment, it's because you apparently don't think Loki was gender queer. Figured you should know that you are high profile for the SJWs now lmao.

If you want to reconstruct prayers for the sacrifices you can use the Roman tripartite prayer format which I know works. The first part is the invocation of the deity, the second is argument where you'll tell the deity why it should carry out what you want it to, and the third part is the offering itself. Here is an example in both Latin and English.
Mars pater, te precor quaesoque uti sies volens propitius mihi domo familiaeque nostrae, quoius re ergo agrum terram fundumque meum suovitaurilia circumagi iussi, uti tu morbos visos invisosque, viduertatem vastitudinemque, calamitates intemperiasque prohibessis defendas averruncesque; utique tu fruges, frumenta, vineta virgultaque grandire beneque evenire siris, pastores pecuaque salva servassis duisque bonam salutem valetudinemque mihi domo familiaeque nostrae; harumce rerum ergo, fundi terrae agrique mei lustrandi lustrique faciendi ergo, sicuti dixi, macte hisce suovitaurilibus lactentibus inmolandis esto; Mars pater, eiusdem rei ergo macte hisce suovitaurilibus lactentibus esto.
Father Mars, I pray and beseech thee that thou be gracious and merciful to me, my house, and my household; to which intent I have bidden this suovetaurilia to be led around my land, my ground, my farm; that thou keep away, ward off, and remove sickness, seen and unseen, barrenness and destruction, ruin and unseasonable influence; and that thou permit my harvests, my grain, my vineyards, and my plantations to flourish and to come to good issue, preserve in health my shepherds and my flocks, and give good health and strength to me, my house, and my household. To this intent, to the intent of purifying my farm, my land, my ground, and of making an expiation, as I have said, deign to accept the offering of these suckling victims; Father Mars, to the same intent deign to accept the offering of these suckling offering.
    - Cato's prayer (Suovetaurilia, from De re rustica, 2.1.10

You know it brother, our goals align. I have never been a slave to a corporate owner and am well on my way to making millions and making this a reality for us all. Many of our ancestors were traders, they gathered wealth, the businessmen of past times. Jobs are important for a society to function but the modern job is simply slavery, slavery that I for one will never take part in. Let's make this a reality together.

I had an animist wedding when I married an indigenous person from a remote village. Including a goat sacrifice and my father in law dripping the blood tomorrow first married bedchamber. Sacrifices were not these crazy barbarisms Christians like to say but more a faith based required slaughter of an animal because people would not normally get the meat unless required. It's a sacrifice because life is lost. It's a blessing because life is continued through that loss. It's an honor and a responsibility. In the Christian culture, a stranger butchers abuses animals and no one shows gratitude, responsibility, or respect. Sadly, our sons never learned his faith or language because their Dad's culture is for only the oldest male who lives on their ancestral home to conduct all ceremonies. It was inappropriate (and I think he was not into his faith as I would have wished) so he never did anything. Always made me sad.

I'm actually hoping to get a ministry started someday. Goal is a village where we farm and raise crops and animals for running a soup kitchen and a free rehab clinic. I live in ranch country so hopefully I can make this happen since I'm not too far from Los Angeles and it needs the help

vitamin therapy will help a lot. alcohol, sugar, and carbs deplete B vitamins and drug addicts lack NAC. and everyone needs more vitamin C (liposomal is the best oral vitamin C)

In Islam we bring the animal slowly and calmly to the slaughter or killing place then give it water and try not to show it the blade, try not to kill a cow for example infront of another cow, the blade must be sharpe enough so the animal dies immediately after all of this we place the animal on it’s left side, say “in name of God the most merciful” or in Arabic “bismallāh al-rahmān al-rahīm” so the animal calms down plus when saying this it kinda creats a feeling of anesthetizing for the animal then kill it. By that the food becomes halal and religiously pure.. thanks for the great content you make!

Your idea intrigued me . I am not sure where you are planning for your dream happen . Norway? LA? I was wondering if you ever considered another state to build your village. Since Minnesota has a strong Norwegian heritage. They even believe they discovered a Ruin Stone near Duluth. I would have to believe they performed these religious rituals here on American soil as well . The land in both Minnesota or even the U.P of Michigan would be incredibly economical to do this . Versus California. I also believe this could draw a lot of outside attention to your dream . Good Luck . Best wishes .

I was also thinking with how food that is left as a sacrifice is left in the woods, I was thinking could we donate food to a homeless shelter or a local community pantry as a way of doing sacrifice for us that live in the city, pray over it before we donate it

@@SandraInSpace It’s intended for nature, so it wouldn’t go to waste. But if you live in a city… well, I doubt you’ll find any sacred space there for the ritual offering anyway? I would take day a trip outside the city for this, find a spot that is special and accessible to wildlife, undisturbed and preferably a grove/spring/waterfall as examples, and would never do this inside a city or your home. It doesn’t have to be much food (to offer) so I wouldn’t worry about that myself, enough for surrounding animals to benefit. The things you would offer would also depend on the deity/deities or spirits you are offering to too.

Years ago I fought MMA, I knocked out my opponent in 36 seconds, and I wish I could have worn a shirt promoting glima. Do you think that the Gods favor the sacrifices made by those who work hard as they train, workout and grind out the attributes necessary for fighting? There really is a different energy about those who are dedicated martial artists, and I just wonder how the demands of it affect our standing with the gods.

Keep your dreams and passions alive!
The Abrahamics want to suppress knowledge and wisdom.
In the first few pages of their control manual they state that knowledge is the original sin.
The Alfather gave his eye and life for knowledge and wisdom.
The old ways tell us to seek it throughout our lives.
    The Abrahamics want a herd.
    The Aesir want a pack!
Find your mountaintop covered in snow!
Find your Grove ringed with stones!
    The pack will converge.
    The wolves are waiting.
