    Key Points:
    • Minimize added salt as much as possible
    • The adequate intake for sodium for a 6-11 month old is 370 mg/day
    • A balanced and logical approach is best when it comes to sodium recommendations for baby.
    • Do what you can to substitute, prep, and adjust to avoid adding salt when cooking.
    • Avoid giving baby processed foods with lots of added salt when possible
    • Foods with lots of added salt include: some breads, pasta sauce, soy sauce or other stir fry sauces, canned soups, cottage cheese and some other cheeses, some frozen meals, fast food, hummus, canned beans and veggies
    Homework:
    • Check the labels for the sodium content of the sauces and packaged foods that you offer baby
    • Remember to take a balanced approach to salt. You don't need to stress about this all the time. Do what you can to reduce where you can!

Sometimes I make a curry with store bought sauce - if I wash off rhe sauce from the meat, is that okay to give 11month old baby? Does washing off the sauce help take off the salt on the meat? Also after 1 can they eat things like pasta sauce or pizza

I usually just offer the dish with the store-bought sauce and try to balance the rest of the day with minimal added sodium. I’ll also not add extra sauce on baby’s dish and might dilute it with something like coconut milk or tomatoes, etc. No need to wash off the meat. And yes to that after 1 as long as they are prepared safely (not choking hazards). I’ll offer pasta to my babies (usually homemade sauce or with canned tomato purée)
