Great tips - I hadn’t thought about the Bluetooth one. I confess I’ve ignored most of them, largely because I’ve not yet used the camera enough to know whether my style of shooting drains the battery more than I would like. I already know that it’s significantly worse than my other camera but its battery lasts me several days because of how I shoot.
Also, I’ve turned off as many buttons and dials as I can and haven’t set up any custom profiles (yet). I don’t use any specific camera often enough to remember what subtle differences there might be between profiles so I just use the Q menu (which I’ve mapped to the top plate button) to make any changes, which will only be IBIS on/off and Auto ISO on/off depending on whether I’m using a tripod or not. The Q button is set to turning the rear screen on/off as I only use the screen on a tripod.

Very useful indeed, especially for someone like me who is seriously considering buying an X-T50 from my current Olympus OM-1.

I agree with all your points on conserving battery energy. Cheers!👍

Excellent advice! My xe3 sucks batteries, so i made the changes that were available to me on that camera…..i hope it helps. I haven’t used my x100vi enough to know how its battery life is, but my V was not great, so i will try it there as well.

Hi, Just wondering how you are tethering/connecting your camera to live-showing of what you are doing? Can´t get my xt50 to tether:(

You need to hook up the camera to an elgato cam link but the only way to record it is to use software like OBS or ecamm live

    Hey Kirk
Can the xt50 be powered by external battery / bank?

Hey good point I’ll have to try that. I think you can charge it with a power bank usb-c

You can (see p288 of the manual). You can set the camera to power from an external source while it’s switched on. I don’t think it charges the battery when using it that way - to charge from the power bank you need to switch the camera off.

@@ianforber thanks Ian. Useful when using in controlled setting.

How much power do you think you've saved Kirk?

hmm, I know the specs say it's worse than my xs10 or my old xt30, but I have found my xt50 is better than mine older cameras with the same settings. I also use 3rd party battery batteries (plus fuji from the original purchases), which is also supposed to limit shots. My xt50 is definitely worse than my xt5, but I'm sure it's better than my xt30 mk1 or xs10. I was surprised. I have to be honest and say I always carry a couple of spares, but since I have had an xt200, xt30mk1 and an xs10, I have multiple spares. I think I am getting 300 plus stills from the xt50. My xs10 has always been the worst with~ 250 on boost. I suspect as always, there will be variation between batches.

For what it's worth I have most of these settings turned on / turned up to the max on my X-T30, and the batteries still seem to go on for ever. (Yes, I have spare batteries). Interesting if X-T50 is more power-hungry.

PS - interesting, didn't realise electronic shutter uses more battery. That's not what one might expect given it's purely electronic hence avoids need for the motor(s) to physically move the mechanical shutter.

    • @KirkWilliamsonphotography
      @KirkWilliamsonphotography  4 місяці тому +1

When using the electronic shutter the sensor and circuitry is charged all the time. With the mech shutter it is only activated when you press the shutter halfway.

@@KirkWilliamsonphotography Interesting, I thought with mirrorless camera the sensor is always active (hence you can always see the live image in the EVF).

Sorry but crippling the camera and turning everything off because Fujifilm made the stupid decision not to use the new battery so they could save a few mm in body size, is just the user once agian having to come up with work around's for their lack of foresight.

I don’t think I have crippled the camera. But I do agree that Fuji made a dumb decision with not going with the new battery.
