- Today we have a 2012 Mercedes CLS300 4Matic that has a bad universal joint and requires a new front driveshaft. This is a fairly painful process overall so make sure it is something you're comfortable attempting, don't be fooled by the video editing. This process should be the same on 2008 Mercedes CLS 300, 2009 Mercedes CLS 300, 2010 Mercedes CLS 300, 2011 Mercedes CLS 300, 2012 Mercedes CLS 300, 2013 Mercedes CLS 300, 2014 Mercedes CLS 300, 2008 Mercedes C300, 2009 Mercedes C300, 2010 Mercedes C300, 2011 Mercedes C300, 2012 Mercedes C300, 2013 Mercedes C300, and 2014 Mercedes C300

I just did this in my driveway with jack stands and some old tools. I found the #1 Forgotten Trick.
It was impossible for me to install my new C300 driveshaft this way. I read Mercedes procedure and EVERYBODY FORGETS to remove the 5 Torx infront of the driveshaft, then remove the 1" thick sleeve and the planetary gear (with the driveshaft receiver plate on it) I Did this and had TONS of Room. Remember to still lower tranny a few inches at back and remove catalytic. Once you are done you will realize it was Easy peasy.
That's not a CLS300, it's a C300. The owner thought they would be funny and put a different badge on there.
I have seen 2 different C 300 with CLS 300 badges. I knew someone that had one, he got it after it had been towed and the owner abandoned it. It was in poor shape and probably had been to a crappy body shops and the people at the shop did not know that the badge kit comes with CLS 300, you are supposed to remove the letter that are not applicable.
I have 08 c320 cdi 4matic and the mechanic that works on my car has warned me about this exact problem that these mercs have. He said that the cause for this is that the heat shield between the exhaust and the drive shaft is really bad and the heat weakens the driveshaft over time and then it snaps. I really hope mine doesn't anytime soon!
Read my comment. Thanks
Thanks for the help. Yeah I shove the socket on the side of the transmission service pushed off to the side a little bit and then I put that flat spot attack and I remove one of them or he talks that was on top and I have my body wiggle on the tires in the back like you said in the line of the spine and I just finally just shoved it in there. I got lucky I need to be about 30 , the job to be about 3 1/2 hours Thank you
I kill all my day still can't make it😢😢😢😢. Even I tried the idea you given to us. But thanks bro. Keep safe while doing work. 😊😊😊
The same here ,what a bad engineering in manufacturing
That metal heat shield that you did not install is a VERY important part, as it saves universal joint lube from getting dry out from exaust temperature, otherwise you will be replacing that driveshaft under 2 years!
What is the part number for the heat shield? Or what’s is call in the area?
What do you mean you rotated the back tires to line the splines up? just asking because I have to do this procedure to my Mercedes. Also my driveshaft on the front part where the U joint is actually broke off.
Rotating both the rear tires is how we made the driveshaft turn to line up the splines.
I just got it done……..it pain to the bu*t…,,almost impossible
- remove cat
-remove rear driveshaft
-remove cross bar support transmission
- low transmission
You will be thankful for your self if you do all that
-install rubber cover on transfer case
- side new front driveshaft
-line up double key ways on drive shaft
-have fun😊to slide it in ….my take 3 hours …good luck
From Mercedes Benz ASE master tech
I'm doin this mf now .. Memphis Tennessee...
When I say ..

Do you think of removing the manifold would help?
It’s probably would, but if I remember right, I think the engine mount had to come off to do that.

I know man. I feel your pain.
Mercedes says release motor mounts and trans mounts cherry pick motor till maxes out take exhaust off motor on passenger side boom slides right in put that's even harder for a back yard guy lmfao
@@doeboi219gotcha. Thanks. I couldn’t find anything on alldata other than labor time. Good luck!
Pro demand basically tells you to do it this way, I’ve done a few and they just kinda suck
Remove trans bolts and torque converter and move trans back an inch. Shaft goes straight in
Its a C300 not CLS300😂
