  • This episode, I restore and repaint the front suspension of the Datsun 1200 which consists of control arms, steering components, sway-bar and more! We're getting close to getting the running gear back into the car and with the suspension ready we're pretty much there!
    Make sure to show your mates what I did in this video:

    32Builds is a channel to showcase the progress and techniques I will use on my Datsun 1200 restoration project. I post videos on my build projects, various how to's as well as footage of events that I visit. My aim is to show you that with enough passion and persistence, anything is achievable.
    Why 32? The number 32 is pronounced 'san-nii' in japanese, sounding like Sunny. This channel was birthed on the build progress of my 1976 Datsun Sunny pick-up. To checkout the full playlist of the build progress, check out the link below!

    Been flicking through your vids tonight as I'd love to do a Datto 1200 ute resto myself. Huge props for doing this with basic tools, gear and space! She's quite a rusty ute for sure but loving the vids and progress.
    I feel your pain with the welding though! Learning on that old machine that doesn't seem to be working correctly would be super frustrating.
    The welds / tacks in previous vids seem to be blowing out in the middle, usually get this welding super dirty material, welding galvanized (but not as bad) or lack of shielding gas. It almost looks like there's no gas at all, so huge props for soldiering through that!
    Doubtful but if you happened to live near Bris I'd be more than happy to come suss out the welding or even lend some gear.

    • @32Builds
      @32Builds  3 роки тому

      Cheers so much! I'm in Syd :( But I used to be around Mt Gravatt a while back!
      Yeah its a bit hard learning to weld at the same time learning to repair the welder xD
      I'm pretty sure a bit of gas is escaping from the old rubber hose + the wire feeder isn't working right and I've had to repair it. Takes a centimeter or so for it to get up to the proper feed speed.
      Taking a short break from welding at the moment, but I'll be back on it soon! I also got myself a cheap spot welder to test out in a future vid :))

    • @32Builds
      @32Builds  3 роки тому

      Aww man, that sucks to hear! I removed my rear quarter panel before I started making videos. You have to drill out the spot welds around the edges of the panel, if remove some of the paint in those areas they become easer to see. Rear quarter panels suck cause they're welded into the frame :( I'll be making a video on the installation of the new ones some time down the track though! I hope everything turns out okay for you!
