In this latest episode we Walk from Oulton Broad to Lowestoft video, we explore an underfunded, rundown town that's heartbreaking to walk through.
Lowestoft is a town that, upon first inspection, doesn't seem like it would offer much in the way of interesting attractions. But, as we walk around and explore, we find good food and a surprisingly rich history.
This video is a heartbreaking look at what could have been - if Lowestoft had been given the investment it needs to thrive. We hope that by sharing this video, we can raise awareness and get people talking about this underfunded, overlooked town.

Oulton Broad is lovely, relatively prosperous and has excellent transport links (2 mainline stations...jealous?).
Pakefield is full of charm, cultural, good seaside proximity and has its own identity
    Carlton Colville is mixed residential.
Lowestoft is sadly neglected but is fighting back. Traffic will be eased by the new 3rd river crossing, the town centre is having a much needed uplift. The good times have gone, but the good people who live there are proud of their town. It is typical of any coastal town, shops closing because digital is the new way to shop, lack of investment due to austerity.
I enjoy your videos. Glad you liked OB

I grew up in Lowestoft, my mother lived there until we moved her into care earlier this year. Growing up it was a wonderful place to live, I have the happiest memories, but. In recent years it has become run down and is not the shopping centre it was, even the beach and sea front has run itself down Just before we moved my mother we went for nostalgic fish and chips. the chip shop/cafe was closed in the middle of June! we ate in an almost empty pub. looking toward the Claremont pier the beach was virtually empty. We left knowing there was no reason to go back.

Thank you for commenting, what you mention is so very sad to hear. I was shocked in all honesty as my childhood memories of Lowestoft are similar to yours, it needs regeneration and money spending to make it the wonderful place it once was. Rich

To be fair, I haven't been back to Lowestoft for over 15 years but lived there for 11 years; 1977-1988. But I can tell you, you were in the complete wrong part of the town for most of the video. When you were at the railway station at the start of the video at 3:23, left is London Road North, the main shopping centre, however if you'd turned to the right instead you would be going over the bridge to South Lowestoft. You would have found 2 piers, a long sandy beach, promenade, gardens and all sorts of stuff. Far better to look at. Where you ended up was the so-called industrial area.

Thank you for taking the time to comment, we shall be revisiting Lowestoft and taking the advise of comments that have been made. As I’ve mentioned in previous comments we never research the areas we visit as bias can be made before you arrive. I’ve taken what you have said on board and we shall indeed check the piers out.

I've lived in Lowestoft all my life up to the millennium it was a thriving town and really busy sadly like a lot of other towns it's become run down. Saying that please check out our lovely beach. We also have pleasurewood hills theme park, gunton woods, and a lovely little theatre which is Just off the,
Main shopping street. Redevelopment plans are ahead so fingers crossed they can make the town centre more inviting. Ps enjoyed the video, and your little dogs. Look forward to your next visit

If you’d done your research before setting out out from your boat you’d have seen how to get to the beach and the seafront properly !
You could’ve also pulled up Lowestoft on google maps and got a much better idea of where you were, and also seen some of the attractions instead of wandering about aimlessly and moaning 🙄

Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment on our UA-cam vlog about the town of Lowestoft. We appreciate your honest feedback and understand your concerns regarding the road closures and their impact on our exploration of the town.
While we do acknowledge that the road closures were signposted for vehicles, it would have been helpful if there was clearer information indicating the detour options for pedestrians. However, we must say that this unexpected turn of events allowed us to experience the joy of adventure by simply walking around and exploring the town in a different way. Sometimes, the unplanned moments can lead to the most memorable experiences.
It's important to note that our intention in creating this vlog was not to complain or moan about the situation, but rather to shed light on the need for regeneration in Lowestoft. We firmly believe that every town deserves investment and attention to thrive and flourish. By showcasing the town and highlighting areas that could benefit from regeneration, we hope to contribute to the conversation and encourage positive change.
Lowestoft has a rich history and immense potential, and we genuinely care about its future. We aim to inspire others to appreciate the town's unique charm and encourage stakeholders to invest in its revitalization. Our vlog serves as a catalyst for discussions and actions that can lead to positive transformation.
Your feedback has further reinforced the importance of raising awareness about the need for investment in Lowestoft. We appreciate your perspective and hope that, together, we can create a dialogue that fosters change and helps shape a brighter future for this remarkable town.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with us, and we welcome any additional feedback or suggestions you may have. Let's continue to work towards a better Lowestoft.
      Warm regards,
      Rich and Lisa

It’s a shame you walked the wrong way at the Conrad, If you had turned right instead of left up the high st your experience would have been vastly better going in to kirkley pakefield walking up the prom - you could have then looped back over the the back side of Oulton broad which comes out near where you go off at the station.. would’ve been a much much better circuit

How dare you walk around Lowestoft slagging it off, going by your video, you have not walked around Lowestoft properly, if you had any sense you would have turned back along Lowestoft Beach instead of walking to Yarmouth. Another you tuber said this was one of the best beaches. Also if you cared to notice the road you came down was closed because they are builing a new bridge across, obviously you took no notice of this and failed to mention that, your too busy finding fault with Lowestoft, to notice the lovely place, and the beach. Just glad you dont live here and appreciate how lovely Lowestoft is.

@@WaggiesCruising the regeneration is happening in Lowestoft [South Lowestoft] along the beach area and shopping area [High street] late 2023 / 2024 - Sorry it was NOT finished for your UA-cam video. Like I said in another reply - you went to an industrial area where holiday makers do NOT go. Only people mosting using that area is those who go fishing, local dog walkers and those going to work. Ignorance is not an excuse. I wonder where you are from?

Thank you for following up on my reply, as I’ve said we mean only empathy for an area that I as a child have find memories of. You know nothing about Lowestoft, firstly if you read the signs, the road is closed because they are building a third crossing over the river, and there's a lot more money in Lowestoft than you think, you are not on the beaches you are walking the breakwaters, I have never heard anyone talk so much crap about this town,

I find your supremely sarcastic tone to be rather grating and I won't be watching any more of your videos as a result. The problem with folks like yourself, is you come to Suffolk and wonder why it's not like your home city centre, loads of shops etc. First off, Lowestoft has LOST many, many shops due to Covid and on-line services etc. Where you are is the North Beach. Should of gone to South beach. Do MORE research you will see Lowestoft is on the rise. NEW shops and gullwing bridge. South beach is being updated in 2023 2024 and so much more. North beach is basically an industrial area. Or back of Birds-eye. You need to do more research before you start complaining or bitching. Oulton Broad is more lively until the NEW sea-front is finished. And SOUTH LOWESTOFT NOT, NORTH as nothing is really there.

Thank you for taking the time to share your comment with us. We want to assure you that our intention was never to offend, but rather to plea with the local government to allocate funds for the much-needed regeneration of the town. We understand the challenges faced by local businesses, particularly in light of the impact of COVID-19 and the rise of online services that have drawn business away from local shops. Having lived in Norfolk for over 20 years, we have witnessed firsthand the changes that have taken place. We live in a rural village in Cornwall so do understand.
We appreciate your perspective and would like to clarify that we do not typically research the places we visit in advance, as we believe it can lead to biased expectations that may hinder our ability to genuinely experience and appreciate a location. However, we do understand the value of local insights, and we are grateful that you have shared your knowledge and recommendations with us.
We also wanted to mention that we have a personal connection to Lowestoft, as I used to visit regularly as a child and teenager. It holds a special place in my memories, and we are genuinely interested in revisiting the town. In fact, our boat is moored on the Norfolk Broads, making another visit to Lowestoft easily accessible for us.
We sincerely appreciate your suggestions on places to visit, and we will certainly make a point to explore them during our next visit. Your input is valuable to us, and we strive to create content that resonates with our audience.
We hope that you will consider watching our upcoming vlog documenting our revisit to Lowestoft. We believe it will provide an opportunity for us to share our experiences and showcase the town's unique charm.
Thank you once again for taking the time to reach out to us. We genuinely appreciate your perspective and hope to continue engaging with you in a positive manner.
      Warm regards,
      Rich and Lisa
