The basic premise in the discussion is faulty. Why does he think that America cannot interfere in our politics? If Americans have had interest in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, etc. why can't they have the same interest in Pakistan?

I disagree with many points made by Dr. Pervez. How can he assume that America has no interest to interfere in Pakistan? What about geographical and economics aspects lest political. Do you think Confessions of Economic Hitman are wrong ? We want Pakistan to have economic relations to alleviate poverty and that should come as an independent decision of the state, not dictated by any other country.
What has the US achieved by interfering in Pakistan? I am asking about the alleged recent interference. What has it gained really? Nothing. That answers your question.

Ok coming to the point, yes it is possible that the us has it's hands behind in the ouster of Khan but Khan's narrative of "pursuing an independent foreign policy which would first look after the welfare of the masses " is nothing more than a hollow rhetoric which actually resonated with the masses because of anti Americanism :something which pakistanis always
had especially after the killing of osama bin laden. The anti Americanism among Pakistanis is not entirely unjustified either ;given the hypocritical nature of relationship it had with Pakistan, us has wronged Pakistan several times in several ways.
But rather than those reasons it is owing to culture chauvinism that this sentiment resonates the most. The foreign policy which khan pursued was not that which "looked after the welfare of masses " but rather it looked after the xenophobic, chauvinist sentiments of the masses. And thus by fuelling jingoism, irrationality it is very easy to throw away the main issues in the bin and comfortably sit on pm chair undisturbed and uninterrupted for years.

I really respect and value Dr. Hoodbhoy. But on this I disagree with him. I support IK because I think he is honest with Pakistan as well. Though he has made a lot of mistakes and became more religious than I thought he would but still he is the only genuine option for Pakistan. Others are not even an option

Not that uncommon banning book always makes them more popular. I've met quite a few Pakistanis in Islamabad and Karachi who have translated or english copies of the Satanic Verses.

I saw his (IK) latest interview with Muzamil, Junaid and these guys asked beautiful and relevant questions but the answer were - religion, foreign policy, and Masiah complex and no counter questions. Hard time for Pakistan ahead coz both parties are worst.

I actually thought they were very soft questions and obviously if they were to ask tough questions it was very easy for IK to say no, coz who wants to take an exam when they know they are going to fail. For Junaid and muzzamil it was an easy way to grow their own channels so why take the risk of asking tough questions, and i do not begrudge them for it.
I wouldn't make a big deal of it, I think that tends to happen with politicians especially a populist like IK, plus our people need to be told the same things many times in simple terms to make them think about them sort of like hashtags.
Pakistan badly needs Dr. Pervez Hoodbhoy and people of his caliber, integrity and education to lead Pakistan for a very long time to make this country livable and proud.
