I have studied in an IIT and can confirm that most of us were from the middle and lower middle class. The trend caught up even more when the entrance exam was offered in Hindi. In hindsight, the social mobility such institutions offer is remarkable. Truth be told- we in India have miles to go. Will be a long way before we are out of the woods.

After reading this statement I am assure everyone that he not an IIT alumina, but for your knowledge as well I want to illuminate you on what he is trying to say here is not that IIT is a bad institution but the problems it solves or its purpose is to give benefits to elite, or make more of them in the society, as the name itself give the edge irrespective of knowledge or performance. You can check this from student loans given to the amount of package offered and also after passing out what that student is bringing to the society or which problem is he solving. Stop talking like a privilege person that if you can't afford bread than why don't you buy cake.
Also you know very well, what is the ratio of people qualifying IIT without any coaching or help and how much these exam qualifying institution cost a common man.

    • @AkashRaj-wk3ix
      @AkashRaj-wk3ix 7 місяців тому

@@Mrigank0819the argument was lower class can't get to iit and it's totally wrong. You can check it by how many students are from middle class or lower class background which will turn out to be majorities. The upper class usually gets admission into ashoka university or narshee monji or ms ramiah... Etc or abroad. So if you think lower class people don't take coaching classes, you're wrong there too. In your personal experience, you may have found some people who didn't. But your experience isn't the reality and you can confirm that by looking at the data.

Calling IIT as an institution of an elite class doesn't stand even near to reality. IITs have students who come from all the backgrounds from elite to subaltern. What makes them accessible is the state subsidies and the quality of research.
India has a long way to go, still we have something to brag about is our subsidized education, which made us reach here, where we stand today.

It comprises the best of best of Indian students, the quality of education after top 30-40 colleges drops very noticeably. If rest of our education system fails to match IIT quality then it becomes a problem, we are creating IIT vs rest situation where IITians get all the best but rest have to make do with whatever is availible.

@@rajeevsharma8024 Oh Dear. You see that's not the case always or more often than not. Being "elite" is about the choices which you make, not about the institutes which you study. If someone gets a degree through IIT and decides to join some RTI movement isn't an elite least of all is that he is working for a ground level movement but a private institute student who decides to become a CEO of the world's biggest software firm can be elite. So it's about choices not the institutes. Personally I don't believe that there is something elite or less elite it's all about perspectives one looks into the world after all what we all have to be is a good human being who is kind to everyone. Thank you.

This will promote literacy and encourage children and adults to read books. The libraries will also teach people computer skills. In addition, the libraries will organize seminars on topics of public interest including healthcare, literature, history, music, the arts, and community matters. In all advanced countries, public libraries play a key role in the intellectual development of the people. We can do the same in Pakistan. And we don't need the government to do it for us. It can be done through self-help.

Liaquat Ali Khan imposed a 25 per cent tax on business profits over one lakh rupees, doubled corporate tax, imposed capital gains tax, and doubled export duty on tea. The budget also proposed a commission to unearth tax evaders. Socialists in Congress supported these proposals. But others like Patel were outraged, claiming Liaquat Ali Khan was really attacking Hindu businessmen (like GD Birla, Jamnalal Bajaj and Walchand) who had long financed Congress. Liaquat Ali Khan had the power to block any expenditure. He constantly queried and blocked spending proposals of Congress Ministers. Sardar Patel is reported to have said that he could not even appoint a peon without Liaquat's approval, which took ages.
Hindu businessmen also feared that Liaquat would selectively target them for tax evasion via the new commission, a fear some Congressmen shared. Liaquat's tactics proved successful. Ultimately, the conduct of Liaquat Ali Khan apparently convinced Patel and Nehru that working with the Muslim League was impossible. It is also said that Nehru and Patel accepted Partition because "by conceding Pakistan to Jinnah, they would have no more of him and eliminate his nuisance value; or as Nehru put it privately, that by 'cutting the head we shall get rid of headache.'

Sir India launched a huge campaign for educating its masses right after the independence, especially the girl child’s education. From the start itself India pushed for modernisation of its educational curriculum. Schools were setup at the village level and incentives like free education for all children along with books and even mid day meals were granted by successive governments. Colleges and Research institutions were set up for every field that would ensure India’s future success. It’s because of such concerted, integrated and continuous efforts that India was able to fight illiteracy that was left by the British. These efforts were backed up by social reforms to create an atmosphere of openness, inclusiveness and tolerance. That’s why today we have children from all parts of the country that enter our engineering, medical, legal, IT , fashion design, acting …. colleges and universities. India’s bureaucracy (IAS) is made up of people from all walks of life from across the country. While the government created IITs, IIMs, RECs, AIIMSs, NIFTs etc. private business groups like the Tatas, Birla, Bajaj and many others created some of the finest institutions to nurture India’s academic aspirations.
Please don’t quote these shady and biased foreign surveys about India’s failure, as its amply evident that India’s reforms have touched and improved our masses more than many countries and especially much much more than of Pakistan.

I watch Hoodbhoy's videos quite often. I find Hoodbhoy very knowledgeable and "a bit" objective in his views about India. I say "a bit" objective as in his talks I am constantly reminded that on every topic that Hoodbhoy talks about he is always talking about Pakistan in comparison with India. That is the mindset of every Pakistani regardless of how educated, informed, or objective they are. And that sense of wistfulness come through very clearly when they bring up this comparison. This is, undoubtedly, borne out by an unmistakable, and ever deepening sense of inferiority complex whenever they are talking about things that matter in the modern world. And, as India grows by leaps and bounds, while Pakistan is sinking deeper in its own morass, this sense of inferiority complex is getting worse as time passes.

It was because the government had subsidised the fees and hostels to a large extent that I was able to do both. The NIT’s for engineering and the multiple medical schools are a testament to the fact that india has some of the best medical skills in the world and a thriving tech startup system. So that professor is wrong that 80% of Indian schools are crap….I would say this is closer to 30% rather than 80%.
JNU needs a complete wipeout IMO, as it has become a completely useless university where folks continue to do PhDs for decades at a time…in useless subjects and on government money,
As to “saffronisation”, this is being done to correct the history again IMO….if history was being incorrectly taught, it does need to be changed. No one is removing Mughal history, they are presenting Mughal history in a neutral light,….ie not romanticising it, but present the truth. No one is removing sciences or changing science to a belief system. Anyway only time will tell in the next 2 decades if the changes being brought into the text books are going to progress india or not.

The circles are inverted in my view. Culture from education determines politics which determines economics and business. His overall premise is an interesting construct.
Looking back, I perfectly see this premise played out in past by Congress and it's intellectuals as well as playing out currently in India by BJP.
The government schools run in India are indeed of poor standard and people go to private schools, but there is now a large focus to allocate resources and bring corporate sponsorships to government schools and improve quality.
The education dominated by English based learning impacting future earning potential of children is reality and reason for current standing of India in index.
There is a difference in seeking education for pure wisdom versus economic development of both individuals/family. The needs/basics are same only to a level or degree after which it vastly differs in terms of need for relevant curriculum. Making it a standard one across, I don't know how it will help, except it will stop intellectual pursuits.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadela is not from IIT for example. We have 100 times more educational institutes than Pakistan. 100 times. we still have issues due to a few government schools as well as Madrassahs which are really bad but overall our education system is good and improving day by day. JNU had Anti-national activities that are being crushed by the government. We had J!had! groups in JNU taking our rallies and chanting "Bharat tere Tukde honge Inshallah..inshallah.". Such illegal anti-national activities are being crushed. We are also looking at reducing aid to tertiary education and providing more to primary education. I am from India and can confirm Pervez Attaboy AKA Pakistani Shashi Kapoor, is wrong in his debate/argument with Anjum Atlaf and latter is right.
The thing which he is not getting is Statistics and the difference between percentages and absolutes. Percentage wise, the amount of students in India receiving good school education is not that great and the average performance of a school kid is at par with the Pakistani ones, but because the top tier is much better and because Indian population is much bigger, even that minority results in humongous numbers in absolute terms, which in turn, impacts greatly his anecdotal experiences. That is why Statistical results are and should be much more trusted than anecdotal experiences and conclusions.
India is still predominantly Rural, and the state and quality of school education in villages is pathetic on average.

IITs could be criticized in several ways, but saying they are elitist, is absolutely wrong..

Most of our senior intellectuals are so stubborn and arrogant that they will never accept how much our neighbours have improved their quality of life, just to make us believe that subcontinent is still has same level as it was few decades ago. Its them who had to set the foundation that we could compete our neighbours today but instead they are just hiding behind their rubbish logic.

A society that has democratic ‘mindset’ and a society that accepts and ‘allows’ even a day laborer’s son as PM, President is where you want to be. Meaning, the people in the top of the food chain should have the magnanimity and courage to allow upward social and economic mobility where anyone can get to the top of the food chain is where real development and change happens and wealth is created.
Does Pakistanis exhibit any of these behaviors - NO

In this land of Bharat, "taleem" was organised and provided at Gurukuls, where children of the rich and poor studied. Individual guidance was only for much higher studies.

Definitely the IIT's are the elite institute of India for education but not for the elite's But we also cannot forget that after neoliberalization this institutes Continuously becoming the lavish institute for rich and upper middle class. With the only aim of producing a rich business class as puppet for capitalists tycoon's Where as IIT's aim should be reaching scientific excellence worldwide
