Big Star - Thirteen | Reaction! (Nostalgic)

- Last year, I listened to The Box Tops, and now I'm finally getting to Alex Chilton's other band, Big Star. Chilton was only around 20 when he recorded this, which is nuts to me. The whole band was young, but their talent was immense. The song is a beautiful nostalgic ballad on young love. You can hear the influence these guys had on the likes of The Replacements and Elliott Smith.
Thanks for watching!

Hearing this when I was 14 or 15 for the first time, after having heard the Replacements Alex Chilton, was a revelation. It was the first time I understood you could be amazing at what you do and never really make it. I’ve never played the first 2 records to someone who hasn’t basically had the same reaction
Chris Bell’s contribution to Big Star is too often overlooked. Check out the solo album “I Am the Cosmos” that was released posthumously. It’s heartbreakingly beautiful.
"You and your sister" [with Alex Chilton on backing vocal] is a key track to hear from that album.
yes!! so sad Chris Bell passed so young. so talented. amazing album
Love this song. And love your joy in reacting to it, Nick. Thank you! "Ballad of El Goodo" would be a good follow-up from Big Star but there are many other great tracks from them too.
This must surely lead into a look at teenage fanclub.
Evan dando and Elliott Smith both have gorgeous covers of this song
Hey Nick, have you gotten into any of Elliott Smith's stuff yet? I think there's a lot of it you'd really like. His cover of "Thirteen" is amazing. Fair warning, his music is some of the most deeply sad and saddening out there, but he was an astonishing songwriter and musician.
nice to see someone reacting to big star 👌
Check out Elliott smith’s cover of this song, it’s great too
1000th video on the channel!!! 🎉
A parallel universe: Big Star are huge and The Eagles aren't. Happy New Year from Scotland
Nice reaction Nick. Looking forward to Alex Chilton by the Mats on the channel at some point.
Smashes you right in the feels, doesn't it?
