    In case you were actually curious, the metal in the chain doesn’t stretch, but the pins that hold the links together start to get worn out over time as the link moves around on them. It’s not a lot individually, but once you stack up the wear across all of the pins, you get what we all call chain stretch. My chain was awful on my K24 before I put it in the Miata, it wouldn’t actually stay timed no matter what I did, since the tensioner couldn’t take up the slack.

      Exactly this. Paused the video to make sure someone had made this clarification. Chain stretch is like warped discs, a misnomer (what people call warped discs are usually just patches of friction material and sometimes rust).

    • @ukrattus
      @ukrattus 4 роки тому +2

      @@abrahamsanchez2197 Oh the pins are metal, it's just nothing stretches, it's just the pins wear so gaps form allowing the links to move apart slightly. If you lay the "stretched" chain down flat on the bench, you'll find you can bunch it back up to the original length, by taking up the slack caused by the wear. If the links themselves had stretched you wouldn't be able to do that. Same thing happens with a bike chain. Hope that makes sense.

    I realize that it's much easier on the budget to go with a K series, but I'd really like to see a F20C swapped S14 someday with ITBs, long tube header, full Thermal Research exhaust like I have on my turbo Civic, higher compression pistons, forged rods, built head (with cams, bigger valves, springs, and retainers). I think that would be really cool. Another dream of mine is to own a fully built high compression J32A2 or J35 with the same mods to make it real snappy and responsive into a S15.

      for going sideways, definitely not enough juice for an s14. still seems a little under powered even for track/autocross as well. FI is the way to go if your k20/24 isn't going to be just a street queen.

      I understand that the numbers are still usable, but the chassis doesn't seem like a great fit. If this car were fully gutted and max effort, that would be a fun track car. I am not saying this car wouldn't be fun, but it just wouldn't be very nimble as it sits.

    On the cheap compression testers they have a very cheap gage, just replace it with a quality gage or a digital gage, the rest is all good.

    Pretty sure SAE numbers take temperature and altitude into equation.. It's the reason why it's considered the standard by shops that don't have an insecurity problem which fuels their need to pump up their dyno numbers to impress their customers while talking about some BS 20% drivetrain loss. Just use SAE Smoothing 5 like God intended.

      It's mostly about cost in the long term, 800 dollar motors if it blows, , more reliable, a lot more common, more displacement, and the head design flows more dual lobes on the cam. It's just expensive to get going
