    Suggest using the factory Bando brand belt versus aftermarket belts as length tolerances are slightly different making installation easier

    When u put that last loop it seems pretty easy. Mine was really tight. Everything runs fine but not sure why it was so hard despite the tensioner pushed as far as it goes.

    • @justdoityourself
      @justdoityourself  2 роки тому +1

      Depends on the belt, it might be super tight. Do not worry about it.

    hi nice clear instructions. I have 2 questions, I have a 2007 civic SI coupe, the belt I bot appears longer that belt that was taken out, the guy at the honda parts department of the dealer said something like not to follow the original routing of the belt and instead to follow the routing diagram on the cardboard packaging - your belts were the same length, does that mean you followed the old routing? Also, is it not necessary to change the belt tensioner while you are changing the belt?

    • @justdoityourself
      @justdoityourself  Рік тому

      Hi! I never heard about such case, when you change belt route. But it is possible, I guess, though the correct belt with factory routing sounds better to me.
      If your belt tensioner is not giving you any troubles, I see no reason to change it. Belt tensioner can run something over 200,000 kms with no issues, while belt will start cracking after 5 years or so.

    • @abntgr5383
      @abntgr5383 9 місяців тому +1

      You absolutely want to follow the new routing which requires the longer belt. The original factory routing put too much lateral stress on some of the accessory mounting bolts and broke them, requiring a lot of time and expense to replace them. The new routing places less force on the bolts. You can only buy the longer belts from a dealer for that reason.

      @@eliphas_catdaddy7982 no, the engine bay was not cleaned recently, I think the engine (belly) shield does the job.

  • @hellotcautiver

    Hey bro, so basically the belt routes itself? In all the videos I see people just adjust the belt on the closet gear to the top, the last gear as you mentioned. They don't show the entire process

    • @justdoityourself
      @justdoityourself  Рік тому

      You need to make sure your belt is sitted properly in each groved pulley.

    • @hellotcautiver
      @hellotcautiver Рік тому

      @@justdoityourself so what I'm gathering is that you just slip the belt onto the pulleys according to the diagram then tighten it using the tensioner correct? Is there a particular order that one should use or does it not matter really?

    • @justdoityourself
      @justdoityourself  Рік тому

      @@hellotcautiver it doesn't matter, as long as the belt sits correctly on each pulley.

      @@justdoityourself one more thing brother, once you got the belt on the alternator pulley at the top, did you retighten the tensioner, or did you just remove the wrench? It looks like you tightened it but it was subtle.

    • @justdoityourself
      @justdoityourself  Рік тому

      @@hellotcautiver it is hydraulic tensioner, all you need to do, just take the wrench off and let it go.

    I have slowly pushed back with my wrench on that tensioner belt, but the belt is not loosening. I've ratcheted and repeated many times. Just won't loosen. I feel tension and I'm moving the wrench very slowly. Any ideas what I can do to get the belt to loosen?

    • @justdoityourself
      @justdoityourself  2 роки тому +1

      Interesting... that tensioner is tough, it requires a lot of pressure from your side. If you tensioner is stuck, you can probably cut the old belt and then replace the tensioner. Be careful if you cut it. It is under a lot of tension.

  • @robertjohnson4401
    @robertjohnson4401 28 днів тому +1

    You didn't do the fun step. When unbolting the belt tensioner, the bolt snaps and there is not enough clearance to extract the bolt stuck in the block. Then it costs a fortune to pull the engine to extract the bolt.

    • @justdoityourself
      @justdoityourself  9 місяців тому

      Sometimes it is really hard. Make sure your belt is fully seated in all other pulleys and the tensioner is fully compressed. Additionally you can put your belt into hot water for a few minutes, it will make it more flexible.
