Walden is the name of a pond in Massachusetts where writer Henry David Thoreau spent two years living in a cabin and wrote a famous book about it. While "My Walden" is a tribute to this particular book, it could also symbolize in general a place where one would retreat from society and return to the simplicity of nature.
The uilleann pipes are the characteristic national bagpipe of Ireland. Earlier known in English as "union pipes", their current name is a partial translation of the Irish language terms píobaí uilleann (literally, "pipes of the elbow"), from their method of inflation. There is no historical record of the name or use of the term uilleann pipes before the 20th century. It was an invention of Grattan Flood and the name stuck. The advantage with this instrument is that you can sing while playing it. You can (unlike the Scottish bagpipes) accompany your own singing.

What a terrific reaction to my favorite Nightwish song (and that is saying a lot). This is such a catchy Celtic-style tune and has such wonderful lyrics. Troy is playing the Uillean pipes (Irish elbow pipes). His right elbow pumps the bellows which inflates the bag under his left arm. He also plays the low whistle in this song (along with, in other songs, the tin whistle, the bouzouki (Irish Mandolin), electric guitar (with and without an ebow), and anything else he can blow into or pick some strings on. I loved your breakdown of that classic lyric. Keep the Nightwish live reactions coming. They absolutely killed their 2022 World Tour. There is a terrific quality remastered video and audio (60 FPS | High-Bit-Rate - props to @Remastercide) from their nighttime concert at the Deichbrand 2022 festival. Troy is the leading exponent of the Uilleann (Irish Elbow) pipes since the late great Paddy Maloney of the Chieftains died last year.
He plays a dozen other instruments too - anything that can't run fast enough to get away from him.
Troy is playing the Irish Uilleann Pipes (uilleann means with the elbow) and the low thin wistle. The song means living a simple life in the woods and in the beginning of the song Troy was singing in Welsh. Beautiful Celtic sounded song

He interacted with others, selling beans he had grown, but did not integrate with their institutions. The line in the song “ I do not wish to evade the world, yet I will forever build my own,” captures that nicely, I think.

Troy Donockley is an English multi instrumentalist who became a full member at the same time as Floor in June 2013 and announced in October 2013. His Uilleann (elbow) pipes have bellows under right elbow that are pumped to inflate the bag under left arm which is squeezed to play the instrument.

You nailed it! The title of this song is a reference to and inspired by a famous poem for Henry David Thoreau. He was an American naturalist, essayist, poet, and philosopher. A leading transcendentalist, he is best known for his book Walden, a reflection upon simple living in natural surroundings.
We all journey through life looking for our own personal Walden. A metaphor of our own personal perfect home.
Nothing wrong with going into a reaction completely blind. Poet & The Pendulum is a masterpiece that is even more appreciated knowing the emotions that went into it, and the story behind it. When you mentioned Henry David Thoreau you subconsciously understood the song because it is inspired by the book Walden by Thoreau! Self reliance surrounded by nature.
My LOTD is "I do not wish to evade the world; Yet, I will forever build my own." For me ~ I live in this world, which is fine. But because I live in a lot of pain, I will make my own world inside of me which doesn't have the pain.

It's funny, a common topic with Nightwish is nature, but if you go to a Nightwish concert 1/2 of the fans don't look like they get outdoors all that often.
It's funny, their opener during the current tour has been Noise - and all the people stand there filming with their smartphones. What an irony.
