As someone that has ran a metal pless live edge blade for 7-8 years. They are a very heavy build blade. We run 4 12foots on 924-930 loaders and 5 10foots on skids or smaller 906 loaders. And out of all the blades. We have changed a total of 2 cutting edges and both cases being operator miss use or abuse. As for the 30% more fuel I know we haven’t seen numbers like that, if anything less fuel as it’s less trips back to scrape. But have noticed a huge difference in the amount of product used after plowing. Realistically probably a 30-40% reduction in salt.

9 out of 10 contractors will go with a box pusher because of price and the size of eqipment they already use for their summer business which is usually landscaping and/or lawn care. As a guy who has Never Even Seen Snow, ( I live in the sub-tropics), I reckon that both of these machines are good enough . As for the operators, well done those men. I call the showdown a 'TIE' result. My question , after watching how that wheeled tractor was sliding all about is; Why don't more of your transport vehicles have these track systems in Winter?
While plowing a lot at work, we asked a supervisor to move his car so that we could do a clean plow. He refused. My partner plowed his car in. Needless to say, charges were levied against my partner. They were thrown out by the Supervisor's boss because the supervisor was just being a dick. That was the last time anyone refused to move their car.
Hard to beat that artic on a big push. That metaplass has its place too can use it at a lot more places. Both guys are great operator's. Good luck with the rest of your winter. Thinks snow!!!
WELL.....I'm just SOOOOO glad we dont get snow like you guys....as fun as it looks moving all that snow.... all that machinery costs 💰💰💰💰....here in NW of England we probably get about an inch or two that only lasts about 2 days.....(All that snow there and Australia is burning 😥😥).....(prayers are with Australia 🙏🙏🙏)
🤣🤣🤣yep.. gotta agree😉....Thing is the whole place grinds to a halt here if we get an inch of snow 🤣...to be honest I suppose councils (and us gardeners) wont spend on machinery if we dont get the snow 🤔...have fun buddy 🤩
Wanna clarify some things said in the video and give my 2¢. The third controller you need for the metal please is machine dependant. Cat bobcat and case won't need. But asv and John Deere joysticks just don't have enough physical buttons to run it. Most loaders as well only have a single joystick with 3-4 buttons. And so, an extra joystick is needed. But, the use of plows was amazing! It's not a lot meant for the metal please but it still did an amazing job. It's moreso meant for condo complex style plowing where you have lots of corners and lots of cars that you have to get very close to. As well, the smaller sections on the cutting edge get a much better scrape, less salt and gravel needed. If there was a 30% fuel loss, it's made up for easily by cost of material. Though, I never noticed a major fuel difference at all. I've ran every plow on the market from cage straight plow, the joke that is snow Wolf, metal pless. Everything. I currently use an HLA, which is a cheaper version of the metal pless. Does nearly as good a job but half the price. Still foldable wings and such, just doesn't cut as well.
I much prefer simple and lower purchase price. It's been a long time since I had a snow plow, but I went with the meyer plow that used a power steering pump that ran off the engine and it had two hydraulic lines for the lift and one for tilt, with metal rods in the cab, you couldn't get any more basic. Some of my buddies went for the more expensive western plows, electric over hydraulic and everyone one of them regretted it. The trucks electrical system just couldn't keep up with the demand for power even with high output systems. Besides the problems they had with the control boxes burning out quite often. The western system is twice as fast as the meyer, but the downtime and expensive maintenance costs made me feel good about my decision to keep it simple. I ran my power wagon hard for nine brutal winters in Michigan and only blew one hydraulic line and wore out one set of slop shoes.
I had a Meyer, same setup on my 72 Power Wagon. And a 69 Scout before that. Added 2 more springs on em, from time to time I'd shear the street el on the angle cylinders when shearing a bolt. After the 1st one, I doped'em up good n only had'em finger tight for quick fix. (Maybe 2 X times a season). Used to do lots of rough residential. Engine over hydraulic was always more reliable than electric. Would drop the belts for summertime. Wish the wing setups I've seen on the one ton trks was available back then. Now I enjoy my SC winters many times on two wheels.
@@barrysimmons4724 Yes I totally agree with everything you said, now that you mentioned it I did have a few pins break, but I think it was more like I didn't maintain the pivot points like I should have a little grease can go a long way. Like you said about enjoying southern winters, after 60+ years of Michigan winters we retired to Tennessee, loving every minute of it.
Considering the Arctic is 1/2 money, virtually no moving parts. I’ve got 2 I’ve used for 11 years and only broke 2 blocks from smacking a curb (my fault). Metal pless I’d never let an employee use. That’s an owner operator machine only. Both plows are much better than any other plow on the market.
Let's call it what it is. It was a tie on performance. I think both products are excellent. I have installed a Metalpless on a loader for a customer here in New Jersey. It is very well put together. The property he uses it for incorporates roads and lots, as it is a residential complex. The ability to go between a 12' plow(and any configuration in between), an 8' box for forward pushing and back dragging spots was the key for them. One machine can complete the variety of tasks they need it to, eliminating the need for multiple machines. He could run a 13' pusher, but it would not be as effective at that location; too many tight spaces to work around. I think they both have their optimal applications. A large pusher is great for a lot or commercial property as shown in the video. The lower cost (both purchase and maintenance) would be the win in this commercial setting, paying double for a piece of equipment that does the same job in the same timeframe makes the most sense for the bottom line. Also with more moving parts there is more that can go wrong on the Metalpless. For the property shown I believe K.I.S.S. is always the best plan. Great video. I think the take away should be that you have to know the property you are working to find the most efficient and cost effective solution for what you need to get done. Keep up the good work!
First off, where did you get those lighted plow markers? Pretty cool. We have two 1236-18 MetalPless plows on the front of 2 John Deere 6115R tractors and they sure do make a heck of a difference doing either town home associations and commercial lots. Before these we would do everything with skids and trucks with Blizzard 810 and 8611's and would take a considerably longer. Don't get me wrong, I love our Blizzard plow on the front of trucks, but having a more versatile plow on the front of a piece of machinery is a must. Especially a plow that has a lot less connection points to the machine to reduce the risk of break downs. I've wanted to try the Kage plows on skids to see how well they do for town homes for back dragging and pushing because the Blizzards don't do the greatest for back dragging unless you have an actual back drag blade installed on it. Also, I feel your pain on patience with plowing, especially on commercial lots. We a few Lifetime lots that are constantly busy and people are constantly in our way and parking in areas where we need to push snow to. It gets very frustrating to say the least. Thanks for the video, I really like to watch how other companies plow snow, because I can try it out in the field if that person has done something different.
MetalPless more versatile when when you have sections of road/drive where you just prefer a plow to angle snow away towards a curb. In just lot clearing applications i don’t see that much of an advantage for the Metal Pless. Metal Pless is definitely more versatile in a different variety of applications
I've seen those wings malfunction or break before and then that cost valuable time. The Arctic is simp,e, does an amazing job and at half the cost it is a no brainer to me.
They're all garbage. Anyone that thinks one brand is better than another, it's just naive and myopic. (Nicer words for dumb.) Ford, Chevy/GMC, Titan, Tundra, and Dodge all build garbage products. They all have issues and they all suck. Buy any one of them. It doesn't matter. It's always something, for each model year/generation. Diesel engines have become so complicated with their high pressure systems, sensors, electronics, and emissions. They're just garbage that should be leased or sold so you don't end up with them after the warranty runs out. They're about as bad as MB/BMW. Too much s to go wrong.
@@xenonram You're absolutely right. There really are no problem free pickups. They all.have their nuances and problems. It's more about being lucky and staying on top of preventative maintenance while also not being overly abusive and demanding. They're just not manufactured to genuine commercial standards. Pretty sure that's one reason why these guys in the snow belt and Canada run tractors with pushers, plows, and pull blowers.
@@phattygoodness7347 good point. Heavy equipment is just that, heavy equipment. A pickup is not heavy equipment. Heavy duty is a term applied to light duty equipment.
We run both on wheeled skid loaders. A 611 metal Pless and 8’ arctics on 7800 lbs machines. The metalpless move way more snow if the operator is experienced in snow removal and they scrape much better and back drag a lot better, but the Arctic is a lot more productive for a new operator. I use less product on the sites where the metalpless is working. We replace a lot of the ‘pucks’ and it does depend on operator, BUT we have way heavier snow than it looks like you have. We’re a couple hundred miles off the west coast of B.C. and it’s constantly snowing at about 28-32°F. It’s really hard on the equipment if the operator doesn’t know how to shave off the stock piles or tends to ram into the storage pile instead of knowing how to stack properly. When we got the metalpless I added about 30% more properties to that machines route for the same amount of time on route. What we will likely do is get another metalpless and keep the arctics as a fail safe, mechanical backup if they go down. We had a branch T fail and it was useless. The wing just folded back and puked fluid everywhere. Got my first arctic 7 years ago and it’s still moving a bunch of snow every night. Just my $0.02.
Back dragging / detail work... meta pless. Pushing and piling, close but meta pless is a close second. Bang for buck.... not even close. Meta pless distant second. Excellent vid and skills by both operators
They looked about equally traction limited to me. The Arctic may roll snow better, but the taller board on the Pless looks to keep the same amount of snow in a shorter pile, which may also reduce drag somewhat.
I was thrown back buy the cost of the metal press. My dad just completely replaced his asv tracks-undercarriage on his 2006 287cat for $20,000.00 and he put them on himself and got 25% off the whole track system. He had 1700hrs. You can buy cheaper setups. The Artic won
Great video, I really liked the drone footage. Now on to the plows in my eyes, if you have alot fine detail work to do and if your a one man crew. I would go with the metal press. Now Stan if I had a crew like you that has different machines then I would with the artic plow. This is one of those videos like I tell people in the shedding community. It's how your business is set up, and how your working the job, would determine which plow to buy. Like a mulching heads works for my business isn't going to work for someone up in a mountain area, because I work in sand and they will have stone. Big difference . Its what's best each business model. If that makes any sense. Lol
Great video again Stan. Tim won because he finished first. Hunter did a great job though. Both pieces of equipment are fantastic. I just like the simplicity of the arctic sectional pusher with no electrical or hydraulics to break. The price point is another reason I would prefer the arctic pusher since they were so close on their time.
I would of liked to see a final go around of the lots after they were done to get a better sense of who won. Just to see the detail work in the curb lines and what not to see what cleaned it better. But either way they both did a great job cleaning up the lots.
Thank you for the video Stan, I've been wondering about how these two would match up. Quick question: are you not allowed to windrow snow towards the outer curbs at this site? Or were you just trying to level the playing field? The metal pless would definitely be faster if allowed to windrow.
hunters rig is real sharp- truck, trailer and all. so question, what kind of plow is that? i ask because its interesting the way that plow sits. i don't know if its the camera or what, but i noticed something about that plow, and i cant quite put my finger on it. it like sits perfectly parallel to the truck (probably not the best term to describe) i don't know how else to describe it. but normally as you raise a plow on a vehicle it points more upwards than straight. i also noticed he has the plow raised and it appears to be up quite a bit judging by the position of the piston/ram and i cannot imagine that plow stacking very well.
The metal pless will also stack snow a lot higher. Just has more distance from the machine. We talked to Paul from metal pless and he said that the metal pless is designed to pile the snow higher and higher for more carrying capacity.
The winner was obvious! Even I blind person could see who won. Stan, you won! You got someone to supply their machinery and labor for free to plow your lot! 🤣 I agree about patients running thin with people during a snow storm. The best time to plow is in the middle of the night when no one it out so you don’t have to deal with their stupidity.
It was a tie for me. Great driving. Great video. Great machines. The price broke the tie. The Artic can give you a spare new one at the shop if Murphy shows up. That is a deal breaker. Go for the spare Artic or try to explain why you didn't get your job done. 80 % of something is better than 100% of nothing.
Do you know what..... I'm watching you clear the snow from that area, (car park?)... all I can think is here in the UK , the amount of snow left on the ground after you've taken the thick layer off the top.... would bring most places in the UK to a halt. Loving your vids thanks a lot ..all the best.
The Arctic easily wins due to no hydraulics or electronics. The name of the game in snow removal is avoiding inevitable mechanical problems. They both clear snow about the same and time wise do about the same job but the Arctic will never break down on you, huge advantage.
the artic sections break as well. Worst case with the Metal pless is you have a hose or electrical failure, pop a fitting and swing the wing back, still usable as an 8' angle blade.
Without a price consideration I would have to go for the Metalples. Two slick operators make anything else a tough call. It'd have to be a Draw! GOOD JOB GUYS ! : ) ♥️🇺🇸♥️ 🏁🏁👀
16:40 you can hear something doesn't sound right on Hunters machine sounds like a bad bearing on a boogie wheel. 18:33 Hunter is now missing his outer intermediate boogie wheel second from the rear it's gone..... lol 20:36 here Tim needs to feather the throttle and take the weight off the blade and his tracks will grab. The problem is the RT75 has a electronic throttle which ASV needs to ditch and bring back the pedal. Arctic is the winner but Hunter is the better operator and should get your pink slip or just trade machines.
I think the metal pless 🇨🇦 design works even better on a farm tractor or wheel loader. And given Hunter has never plowed this site , I’d say he won. But the artic is definitely bang for the buck.
You guys don't stake your curbs or hazards (like raised manhole lids) ??? Or have you been doing that property so long you already know where everything is ???
The Arctic pusher I would say is winner for one rolling the snow when plowing is going to mean you are moving it faster and also less stuff to hook up and no extra hydrolics or electronics to worry about or break
Arctic supposed to be making a pusher plow for pick up trucks. Those arctic plows scrab all the way down love them, better then my plow. I'm a contractor for arctic.
Thanks for the video! - Any reason you didn't compare: metal pless box vs arctic box or arctic wing blade vs metal pless wing blade and use the same machine for each product so its a Legit comparison How do you like the track skids vs wheel skids for snow? Are they snow tracks Cheers Any reason you posted the website/information for the Arctic product but not the metal pless?
Stan I am in the same business , doing hard scape , concrete and pushing snow in winter with my truck and plow. Now I am debating about getting a skid steer or track loader. Whichever works better for pushing snow will be the tie breaker. I have seen almost all your video's and in few you have used a skid steer and in some track loader.
I have mixed opinions on this comparison. Know get me wrong they both do a great job. I hands down believe this was a tie. When it comes to the arctic, you are stuck in the length and cant windrow or anything like that. The metapless can windrow and go from 13 feet down to 8 feet. The problem I have with the metapless is it cost double what the arctic does. It is also heavier. If I had to spend my money I would hands down buy an arctic.
Metal pless won that one. Hunter was a dang good operator. And id say for lots appearance hunter took the cake on that one. Tims lot was pretty sloppily done.
Excellent video comparing apples to apples. I didn’t see much snow rolling when the Artic blade was full, only when half full or less. Impressed with Cat’s tract traction equal to ASV’s, which is known to be industry leader. ASV engine didn’t sound like a Cummins diesel that the ASV-75 model is said to have. Kudos, couldn’t have found to better skilled operators than Tim & Hunter - best of the best equally matched, as were the skid steers. I give Artic the win in the parking lot. But if I’m doing roadways, I ‘d want the Pless. To have one plow to do both parking lots & roadways - I go with the Pless.
Used all kinds of blades, but metal pless has been hands down the pest plow I've ever used . 6 years and counting on the same cutting edges 698 hours as of last night. A few minor problems but nothing that shut me down .These blades are amazing for detail work and clean like no other. Not trying to knock the fella that had the metal pless but he waisted time by back dragging around obstacles it's all about using the angle of the blade, wings and machine. You can eliminate a tone of time killing back dragging. not wind rowing in a box configuration and spilling snow on the clean side also kills time. Theres lots of tips and tricks to use those blade effectively and effectively that save tons of time.

I call the showdown a 'TIE' result. My question , after watching how that wheeled tractor was sliding all about is; Why don't more of your transport vehicles have these track systems in Winter?
Great video. Just makes me wanna go out and play in the snow with one of these machines.
Thank you !!
That supervisor sounds like a douche
Good on the boss!!
Metalpless looks like a much cleaner path in some spots
Swap those tires on that SDLG to something like Nokian and you'll see a huge difference.
Snow is Fun!
🤣🤣🤣yep.. gotta agree😉....Thing is the whole place grinds to a halt here if we get an inch of snow 🤣...to be honest I suppose councils (and us gardeners) wont spend on machinery if we dont get the snow 🤔...have fun buddy 🤩
Fantastic video! Definitely what I love seeing on your channel! Love metalples, but feel like the Artic’s scrapping and rolling isn’t compared
Besides the problems they had with the control boxes burning out
quite often.
You should of brimmed the tanks then topped them off at the end to get an idea of fuel burn
Oh Man. Yes! I missed that.
Considering the Arctic is 1/2 money, virtually no moving parts. I’ve got 2 I’ve used for 11 years and only broke 2 blocks from smacking a curb (my fault). Metal pless I’d never let an employee use. That’s an owner operator machine only. Both plows are much better than any other plow on the market.
you're not wrong, just paid $21K for mine, 83616. can't imagine letting an employee run around with it probably deprived of sleep.
Why do I love your channel? Snow. Let it snow. Then the plows!
Well. There is more coming😃
Should have said paying half the price, not double.
where can i send you some videos from snowplows we are using in Norway?😎
Stan... do you have fluid in those sledge tires? If not, I believe it would make a big difference.
Ive got one coming out next week where I break down our snow pattern and how we go through the lots. You might be interested in that one.
MetalPless more versatile when when you have sections of road/drive where you just prefer a plow to angle snow away towards a curb. In just lot clearing applications i don’t see that much of an advantage for the Metal Pless. Metal Pless is definitely more versatile in a different variety of applications
Agreed.
I think paying for that versatility and complexity, makes more sense on a bigger loader, than on a skid.
No way I'd pay double the money when the artic is much simpler and its does an amazing job! And my opinion Tim won! Great video
Depends on your needs and if a hydraulic wing pusher can pay for itself in efficiency AND ease of use which is a factor when working long hours.
I like it simple as well.
I've seen those wings malfunction or break before and then that cost valuable time. The Arctic is simp,e, does an amazing job and at half the cost it is a no brainer to me.
Hows that Ram holding up vs the Ford's you have so far?
Fca products are garbage. Pure and simple. Source: FCA pays my bills very well.
@@xenonram
You're absolutely right.
@@xenonram True that, we all beat the crap out of them. None last as long as they should.
Hey stan where did you get those lighted markers on your fisher plow?
I loveeee that dodge set up :0
That looked like fun!
Next time offer a $1000 prize to the winner and then you'll see which machine is best.
Back dragging / detail work... meta pless. Pushing and piling, close but meta pless is a close second.
Bang for buck.... not even close. Meta pless distant second.
Excellent vid and skills by both operators
Thanks Trevin!
could the roll of the snow on the arctic help a bunch on fuel from a easier push. versus a little weight.
Lol
Makes total sense. But also factor in initial purchase price and fuel costs as well.
I agree that is something you have to look at. Look at dirt ninja, I don't know how many square feet he does, but he's just one guy, one machine.
Looks like hunters did better at peeling it off the asphalt
How much does each pusher weigh ? not the machine’s ,very important spec.
metal pless is 1900 lbs
😂😂😳 are those lightsaber markers on that plow back there??
Lighted plow markers available at Blackburn’s truck body’s Syracuse NY
They ship anywhere
I put them on my truck this year. And love them
What a great 👍🏼 video both snow plow’s are insanely good
Those plows are awesome!
I would buy the Arctic snow plow because it’s cheaper but they are both very good plow’s
I would definitely look into putting studs on the sldg if you're only using it in winter
Thank you!
Can you trailer the machine and artic together to do multiple lots?
Yep
How do you move the 13’ pusher?
@@thewhiteknight02 sideways in the trailer
Metalpless for the win right there. Unhooking is stupid and need a 25 foot trailer
Tim won no excuses when you take on a challenge keep up the videos i definitely learn alot from you guys
Thank you , more vids to come !
I would of liked to see a final go around of the lots after they were done to get a better sense of who won. Just to see the detail work in the curb lines and what not to see what cleaned it better. But either way they both did a great job cleaning up the lots.
Your right. I should have done that but the video was already so loooong.
Stanley, what brand of Drone do you use to film with?
mavic zoom
Thank you for the video Stan, I've been wondering about how these two would match up.
Quick question: are you not allowed to windrow snow towards the outer curbs at this site? Or were you just trying to level the playing field? The metal pless would definitely be faster if allowed to windrow.
Nothing can go over curbs at this site.
hunters rig is real sharp- truck, trailer and all. so question, what kind of plow is that? i ask because its interesting the way that plow sits. i don't know if its the camera or what, but i noticed something about that plow, and i cant quite put my finger on it. it like sits perfectly parallel to the truck (probably not the best term to describe) i don't know how else to describe it. but normally as you raise a plow on a vehicle it points more upwards than straight. i also noticed he has the plow raised and it appears to be up quite a bit judging by the position of the piston/ram and i cannot imagine that plow stacking very well.
The metal pless will also stack snow a lot higher. Just has more distance from the machine. We talked to Paul from metal pless and he said that the metal pless is designed to pile the snow higher and higher for more carrying capacity.
Do you have any videos that compare a track skid stir versus one with snow tires.
Both impressive. But I think I like the Arctic because no hook-ups. Good show, thanks
Yeah sometimes what people do like that irks me.
I'm with you. The extra cost cant do it it for me. I'll take the less expensive one.
Bottom line at the end of the season, that $8-9000 is a lot of fuel cost or profit, replaced parts etc....
@@Dirtmonkey I know this is 2 years late , but has anyone verified the fuel usage for the MP or is it still just someone's opinion?
Hey Stan what are the lighted guild whips on the plow
His snow plow vids remind me of when I would plow my grandpas drive way with him
Love the competition videos and the new technology
That was a fun one to shoot.
how long did it take to plow that lot and how big was the lot?
Do you know what..... I'm watching you clear the snow from that area, (car park?)... all I can think is here in the UK , the amount of snow left on the ground after you've taken the thick layer off the top.... would bring most places in the UK to a halt. Loving your vids thanks a lot ..all the best.
Thanks Daniel !
I think I said this when you bought it, but you should put diff locks in the sledge.
Without a price consideration I would have to go for the Metalples. Two slick operators make anything else a tough call. It'd have to be a Draw!
GOOD JOB GUYS ! : )
♥️🇺🇸♥️ 🏁🏁👀
Thanks Barry !!
Nicely Done Thanks For Sharing And Happy New Year 👊
what was different about that snow that it wasn't rolling with the plow very well like they are known for?
Were did you get those marker lights on you plow ?
buyers
Sweet thanks man
You guys don't stake your curbs or hazards (like raised manhole lids) ??? Or have you been doing that property so long you already know where everything is ???
don't stake it. Way to big to stake
The Arctic pusher I would say is winner for one rolling the snow when plowing is going to mean you are moving it faster and also less stuff to hook up and no extra hydrolics or electronics to worry about or break
I think I saw you have the lighted plow markers on your truck. What do you think of them?
I like them!
I am thinking about getting a pair
Arctic supposed to be making a pusher plow for pick up trucks. Those arctic plows scrab all the way down love them, better then my plow. I'm a contractor for arctic.
Happy new year Stanley god bless you and your family
Thank you and Happy New Year to you also !
Thanks for the video! -
Any reason you didn't compare:
metal pless box vs arctic box
or
arctic wing blade vs metal pless wing blade
and use the same machine for each product so its a Legit comparison
How do you like the track skids vs wheel skids for snow? Are they snow tracks
Cheers
Any reason you posted the website/information for the Arctic product but not the metal pless?
How does the live edge on hla or metal pless cut thru packed snow.
The sdlg needs a set of tire chains
Just wondering can you put chains on the loader to push snow on that ice??
Whered you get them light up plow markers you have on your dodge stan?
buyers
Chains for the sledge???🤔🤔
Stan I am in the same business , doing hard scape , concrete and pushing snow in winter with my truck and plow. Now I am debating about getting a skid steer or track loader. Whichever works better for pushing snow will be the tie breaker. I have seen almost all your video's and in few you have used a skid steer and in some track loader.
I wish you could come and train the snow plowers in Winona mn.
2160p ??? Never seen this before on your videos!
Metal pless won that one. Hunter was a dang good operator. And id say for lots appearance hunter took the cake on that one. Tims lot was pretty sloppily done.
Bad to the bone brother keep up the awesome work god bless you and your family
Thank you Thomas , more to come !
First time on that lot..He did great
Excellent video comparing apples to apples.
Great comparison Stan! Can you compare pull plow vs front plow in one video? Thanks
Both of them look great both of them are used for different applications of snow plowing catchy
Yep.
dirt ninja has some amazing videos using the metal pless. he's a master with that plow.
