    Here in Atlanta it has been unseasonably warm though we did have a few days of single digit lows at Christmas. We had a neighbor a few years ago native to the area. They moved to Iowa because they had never lived in snow and wanted the experience. I am happy to watch Dirt Monkey videos and enjoy vicariously.

    Idea for a fun video, you get roughly the same size pile as the Komatsu in this video and Tim’s rig an see who can push all of it first. You have to push it over a hundred yards and you can only take a 10 yard run up. I know these were slippery conditions, I went ass over teakettle trying to shovel some stairs in Bloomington😂😂

    I believe depending on where you live it’s a heavy fine for plowing out into the road and leave piles. On my old plow route I had a guy who would come plow and leave huge piles of snow in the road after I plowed/salted and had bare road surface. He kept doing it until a major storm where I straightened my power angle road plow and dumped a few heavy piles in their driveway. They learned to never do that again.

  • @happyrocklawncareandsnowre2141

    I'm from Gladstone (aka Happy Rock), Manitoba, Canada. I'm owner and operator of Happy Rock Lawn Care and snow removal. We've had less than a foot of snow this year 😳. I do residential snow removal only and use a 2021 Polaris sportsman xp 1000 on camoplast tattoo tracks. Have the 60" Polaris plow with power angle. Plus a 3013 John deere walk behind snowblower, which is currently out of action do to drive issues. You are more than welcome to send some more snow our way. Lol 😆 🤣 😂

    oh boy, several things, yes it's much easier to deal with lesser amounts rather than a lot especially if its wet, working it with ease rather than fighting it makes a big difference. Pushing snow where you shouldn't.... oh gosh one of the contractors in town with a lot of equipment at his disposal and a large lot at his house pushes all his snow out of his driveway onto the boulevard along the yard of one or our long time local seniors, drives me absolutely crazy every time I see that. Break downs are no fun but thankfully only hydraulic hoses this year and an awesome business that will come in and make me a hose anytime after hours, amazing support. This year though we haven't had much snow, nothing in January at all!

    To be honest I don't miss plowing commercially, it's kinda nice not having to be out all night. In 2018 I was moving snow every day from the last week in January until the first of March, either initial clearing or post storm clean up. The one thing I do miss is doing the drive throughs at caribou and Starbucks, lots of free Coco. Got 4 inches in the Moose lake area today.

  • @RoryMitchell00
    @RoryMitchell00 Рік тому

    When working manually to move snow (I do my and my neighbour's driveway, plus a long stretch of sidewalks, and I move a lot of snow away from the fence in my back yard to prevent problems with spring runoff, since there's no back alley behind my house), I find that getting ahead of the snow and doing it in stages is so much more efficient. It may seem quicker to wait for the whole amount to accumulate, but once you are pushing a heavy pile of snow, it slows you down a lot, and you are often forced to engage a lot of muscle groups and use up your body's stored energy reserves (by this I mean the short-term ones that can't be quickly replenished). Alternately, when it's still a reasonable amount, you can instead walk relatively fast while pushing snow, and you only need to use aerobic respiration to produce energy (note: breathing as a source of metabolic energy is still not limitless, but it is _much_ more easily produced and replenished than the stored muscle energy required for strenuous activity).
    For mechanical work, you can of course always just add more gasoline to get more energy, so this analogy isn't perfect. However, even with machines there is a slowdown of the speed at which you can work, as tires slip, multiple passes are needed, etc. And most importantly, there is a lot more wear and tear on the equipment, resulting in breakdowns and time-consuming repair work, when pushing machines to - or past - their limits. So I can understand how your years of experience on the job have led you to this process of working around the clock. There really are a lot of good, efficiency-focused reasons to choose this method.

    It has been 5 to 15 degrees cooler than normal most days, certainly wetter and windier than normal during this winter here in The Valley of the Sun (Greater Phoenix, AZ). PS, you can have the balance of my lifetimes worth of snow! This from a guy who spent 25+ years around the Great Lakes, with most of that in the UP of MI.

    Negaunee Michigan. 174 inches so far this season. Another 5 or more inches of partly cloudy arriving Monday. We average about 200 inches per year. No big deal.

    I’m in northern Indiana and it’s been treating us snow removal operators terrible. Three snow events from December to now totaling 4”. It’s been so bad this year I’m actually a little bit jealous lol

    We've had snow on the ground continuously without melting since October 10th here in the interior of Alaska. If we are lucky it'll be melted off the first week of May. Last winter I had snow here at the cabin from September 20th till the second week of May. Have a great day.
