Tidal Wave is a HEAVILY slept on character. This guy fills so many niches that we just don't see in Transformers today. I think his last appearance in ANY official media was as a promo set of cards for the Transformers TCG which had a really neat gimmick. But Tidal Wave DESERVES a Titan Class remake. Maybe including the ability like in the show to disassemble himself and become weapons for other bots to use since after his initial appearance in the show he was mostly used to power up Megatron and counter the Jetfire Optimus combination. Armada is what got me into Transformers so there's that as well.
You're not the only one! The thing is, it could not be enough because people's complaining their titan class toy does not scale with other figures (!!). What's next, a Tidal Wave big enough to have an armada OP to recreate the video game level?? They might as well as go to Manhattan and wait for the Empire State Building to shift into a robot at this point.
You actually exactly described how he showed up on the show. It starts with him floating in space all lit up, then he comes slowly gliding in, tearing down hills and all before splashing down into the sea and bringing the pain. Arguably the best entrance on the show. Past that though, there character doesn't have much going for him. He's described as singlehandedly taking down an entire force on some planet. More Unicron trilogy, please!
I practically use him as my Nemesis. And since I treat the Ark as a generational ship not unlike its biblical namesake, it's fine if a ship carrying a large part of Cybertron's population is bigger than its corresponding Nemesis
I was fortunate enough to find Tidal Wave at a yard sale in perfect condition with his Minicon at a yardsale like 14 years ago. If I recall I think all he was missing was some missiles? But, I mean I never use those anyway. He's a really fun toy to play around with. EDIT: Also to answer your question, yes, he could fly and operate in water in his combined vehicle mode in the show.
Never had the figure as kid, but I was able to find both his armada and energon versions a few years ago. I absolutely love this mold even if he just simply a brick of a figure. He’s easily one of my favorite characters that came out of armada. If a Titan class version is announced I’m so getting it.
I got my trio of Unicron Trilogy Optimus Primes and the Trio of Megatron, and got Tidal Wave to be able to accomplish what I wanted ever since I was a kid and that was Combine Optimus with Jetfire and Overload to battle against Megatron combined with Tidal Wave. Amazing review of such an incredible figure!! Thanks Patriot Prime!
Love it. SO what I hear is that Ramjet is super plain but turns into a super plane? Love it. I will have to see if I can get a complete set of this figure after we move into the house we just bought.
I will say I do prefer the Energon repaint. I had both. It's a great mold either way but I really dug the white/clear green plastic/Lightning deco that was more uniform in robot and "space cruiser" mode.
Another great review like always 😊 I personally have the Energon repaint of this guy, but any version of him is amazing! 100% if they made Tidal Wave the next Titan, TONS would buy it! I would love it if they made him again!
Y’know, why didn’t Tidal Wave become a staple transformer? He seems PERFECT and fills in a rarely used niche, how many aquatic and naval transformers are there? This guys can do so much, be a floating and Flying Fortress that can carry air craft which the decepticons have had in DROVES and of course able to use the multiple components for various actions like insertion, heavy armaments and I guess refueling Energon. Naval transformers may seem situational but as japan proves with people like Leiji Matsumoto, Aquatic vessels can make pretty damn cool space ships like the Space Battleship Yamato.
I just got my loose Takara version a few weeks ago, missing the missiles, but otherwise perfectly working and complete. And I cannot put him down. No knees and head, sure, and I am tempted to try a mod that involves swapping the thighs with those of the Cybertron Jetfire mold, but even without those mods, he's still so much fun as a Decepticon warship. And if you consider him to be his PS2 game size, he's a great Nemesis-like starship for the Decepticons.
Even though I am strictly collecting armada originals, if there was to be a new titan class version of this guy I WOULD definitely pick him up (provided he’s a good figure of course 😉) really good review BTW. You’re the only person that’s identified the middle section of the dark fleet as a warship (I guess it helps that you’ve served in the forces so your knowledge on military vehicles is better than most) and to answer your question about Tidal Wave in the show, yes he could fly (I’ve only seen the odd screengrab of him flying) AND also his cartoon model had no green on him at all, it was purple but Hasbro changed it to green because they felt that there was too much purple in the Armada toyline at the time so hence why it is green (which I personally prefer as it makes him pop) and you were also correct about the video game (which was also on Xbox as well as PS2) his warship mode was pretty much 50 to 60 percent on the Mid-Atlantic area and once you reach the bridge he transforms and you have to fight him on the little islands, trying to shoot his head (as it’s his ONLY weak spot due to his body being too heavily armoured) whilst he is walking around firing monstrously sized missiles at you (which do an extreme amount of damage!) and in the game his robot mode is fucking massive! Like bigger than G1 Devastator! He’s practically a massive troop transport as his warship mode is filled with Decepticlones in the level which you have to fight and kill in order to get to the bridge. I highly recommend you watch the boss fight. I’m f you type in “Tidal Wave boss fight” you’ll find plenty of videos showing him in action (and his monstrously massive size of course 😉)
This dude is SOO BADASS!! I never watched the Armada series either. I actually scored mine as a garage sale bargain. Sadly not complete. No missiles or Ramjet minicon. And eBay is harsh to pay for replacements.
What i like about 90s-2000s toys is back then absolutely lacked in articulation compared to todays toys but they made up in personality and for the Unicron Trilogy they had that "I got the guy in the tv" appeal compared to toys in the past.
this is one figure I did get back in Armada days. I debated on him many times. I was collecting only in shoe characters too so musta been space or price. Agreed in him being a titan class the head is there easily with the Ark head. I have to look up the Energon one. see the colors and ponder if a way to mix them.
Tidal wave in armada is about the same as he is in the game as he is in the cartoon. Big threatening decepticon bruiser. hes basically animated lugnut. he even canonically combines with megatron in the cartoons. In energon he gets destoryed and gets an upgrade form and turns into a fanboy for galvatron. Lol
Yeah true words, but some 'upgrade' it turned out to be (another character in that series done dirty. Awesome figure/ toy which I so enjoy! Now Hasbro let's talk about making a NEW Tidal Wave in Legacy...
It’s unfortunate that the only update was to his design was a repaint of TR broadside in a hard to find multipack. He really could be a good titan or commander class figure for hasbro to do in legacy and heck there’s some repaint value with the japan release, US release, and energon colours if they wanna triple dip.
Picked up the Energon repaint of this guy a while back, and I have to say I prefer the colors on the Armada version better. May have to be on the look out for him.
Armada was one of the better Transformers shows. It has a really cool depiction of Starscream, decent human characters, and one of the best Optimus and Megatron dynamics right up there with G1 and Transformers Prime.
Unfortunately...!!! The legendary levels of DUMB@$$ characterized by those kids, kills the cool factor by A LOT...!!! And I'm being VERY NICE by leaving it at that. Rad & Alexis were okay... BUT Carlos was a F**KING MORON...!!! And Billy & "Tubs McGee" were nearly as STUPID as Carlos. 😑😑😑 The OTHER thing that I hated about Armada, was twofold regarding the Mini-Cons... 1) That they ONLY spoke in R2D2 style beeps and noises, AND 2) That the dumb@$$ KIDS were the ONLY people who could understand them?!! WTF?!!🤔🙄🙄😑😵 SO, other intellectually superior (to human children, at least) robotic beings, FROM THE SAME DAMN PLANET as the Mini-Cons, can't do a c3p0 and interpret the beepy nonsense?!🙄🙄🙄 Puh-lease!!!😑😑😑 It's pretty obvious the studio just was too cheap to pay for the extra voice acting. Aside from those huge gripes, it really WAS a good show though.
I admit the Dark Fleet Megatron is the most Anime thing I have ever seen. Remember, the Unicron Trilogy was a partnership between America and Japan, so it would make sense the animation would come from Japan and the story telling would be shared between the two. So when I say the Unicron Trilogy was anime, I know what I'm talking about.
As a kid if i had any TF that be components of drones or vehicles thatd make one huge or large bot Id childhood struggle intro pretending they were megazords cus I couldnt ever afford em as a kid. THis toy is amazing and im really surprised i never saw him in stores. Just Armada Prime growing up. (edit) WOW is that Megatron Tidal Wave like a "Herald" if you would of trends being revisited in the WFC trilogy.
I miss when toylines were as creative as Armada (and the rest of the Unicron trilogy by extension) I like the remastered G1 stuff no doubt, but I'd love to see a Transformers series in the modern day do something unexpected for a change.
I have the energon version of this figure and it's badass, he needs a remake, preferably a titan. That PS2 game still has to be one of the best transformers games.
They should really remaster the Armada game and the other movie games as well, I know they did the 2.0 update for the first movie game, and on a similar note, when are we gonna get a sequel to TF Devastation?
I totally agree with you. I myself am a G1 collector & I cannot stand Douché bag bay & his TF’s, but I respect the fans. Most fans knew NOTHING other than douche bag bay TF’s & thats ok, they share the love for TF’. If i made a living out of TF’s I too would have to collect ALL TF’s to make content. Good review too.
Okay this is a stupid question, but it must be asked for posterity. Due to mass shifting and the size of Tidal Wave (and aircraft carriers in general) is Ramjet really a minicon, or his he just a small representation of a normal sized guy on an aircraft carrier lol. (also, Ramjets bot mode is like a pogostick)
This is an awesome figure, and one that I'm glad is STILL in my collection! I like this version, but I feel like maybe I might prefer the Energon repaint?🤔 Although, even better than EITHER of the green versions of the figure, would be the charcoal gray & purple version from the cartoon!!! If Hasbro DOES do him, I hope it's the same paint job as the 5pk exclusive repaint of TR Broadside as Tidalwave!!! HASBRO!!! Pull your greedy heads OUT of your collective dumb@$$#$ and MAKE THIS GUY OUR NEXT TITAN CLASS FIGURE!!! I'm NOT buying Titan Cybertron Metroblehhx this year, and I wouldn't buy Cybertron Menasor either... BUT I WOULD buy a Tidalwave as the NEXT TITAN CLASS FIGURE! He'd be a great base for Micromasters too, actually...

Armada is what got me into Transformers so there's that as well.
You're my favorite Mini-con. Thank you for all you do good sir! I wouldnt mind him being the Commander class. But thats just me.

I would definitely buy a Titan class version. They should've done that instead of Cybertron Metroplex.
When legacy was announced i thought for sure this would be the first titan! Oh silly me.
Tidal wave definitely needs to be done as a titan class!!! All those little minicon gimmicks would work for legends scale!!!
I have good news and bad news. Hes a titan but he doesnt have gimmicks for minicons.
Legacy Tidal Wave would be great. I feel like he could work as a hefty retool of the Autobot Ark.
I practically use him as my Nemesis. And since I treat the Ark as a generational ship not unlike its biblical namesake, it's fine if a ship carrying a large part of Cybertron's population is bigger than its corresponding Nemesis

This review gave me a "Tidal Wave" of nostalgia, since Tidal Wave was the first ever Decepticon Transformers figure I ever collected. :D
I remember how badass this guy was in the anime he single handedly beat the entire autobot forces in one episode but then they lowered his power level
I Remember they even did a ENERGON version, and his pieces attach to Megatron/Galvatron.
We need Tidalwave as a Titan for Legacy!!!! Excellent review again Sgt.
Legacy Titan Tidal Wave would be AWESOME!!!!! Especially if they use his TF: Energon color scheme.
Love it. SO what I hear is that Ramjet is super plain but turns into a super plane? Love it. I will have to see if I can get a complete set of this figure after we move into the house we just bought.
I would definitely buy a Titan sized Tidal Wave and would hope they'd retool it as Broadside.
I wouldn't mind a minor retooling and repaint into Broadside to go in the Wrecker legacy line
Tidalwave!!! I remember getting this guy back in 2003. The combining gimmick was really cool, but the minicon turret feature was kinda lackluster.
What an awesome bot, great gimmicks, superb playability. Fantastic review PPR!
As Tidal Wave himself would have said: LEGACY TIDAL WAVE! LEGACY TIDAL WAVE!
Great Review! Titan Tidal Wave is a must have, come on Hasbro? Got to love the first release of any figure, the gimmicks are the playability factor!
Definitely needs to be a titan class, especially with all the new smaller figures they’re releasing.
I would definitely buy a Titan Class Tidal Wave. That would be so awesome.
The seats on the hovercraft remind me of the ready room of an aircraft carrier.
Where the air wing would meet before a mission
I will say I do prefer the Energon repaint. I had both. It's a great mold either way but I really dug the white/clear green plastic/Lightning deco that was more uniform in robot and "space cruiser" mode.
Yes hasbro, legacy Tital wave
this has been on every TF collector's wish list for titan class.
myself included.
Another great review like always 😊 I personally have the Energon repaint of this guy, but any version of him is amazing!
100% if they made Tidal Wave the next Titan, TONS would buy it! I would love it if they made him again!
i hope this guy gets redone in the Legacy line. Great review!! Hasbro... Legacy Titan Titalwave!!!!!

Agreed. Blows my mind that this was a one and done figure.
I always think of tidal wave as the answer to autobot's omega supreme
@@PatriotPrimeReviews how does Tidal Wave compare in Real World size to Omega Supreme and Devastator ? Or is his size closer to Metroplex ?
This is a pretty great figure from back in the day. I think he could make a pretty great titan figure, I'd get it.

# Legacy Tidal Wave like we rightfully deserve.
Fanshobby is doing a Tidal Wave and I'm super pumped for it.
Can’t wait for the Fans Hobby version.
I also regret purging my collection years ago. Armada had some good figures and some horrible ones. Titan class tidal wave would be amazing

I literally got introduced to Transformers because of Armada. I never had Tidal Wave sadly. But I would SO BUY A TITAN CLASS TIDAL WAVE!
That's my childhood right there.
time to get a brand new version of tidal wave!
this is one figure I did get back in Armada days. I debated on him many times. I was collecting only in shoe characters too so musta been space or price.

I have the Transformers Energon Variant of him, so the Green and white color. I can use him in combine mode with my Armada Galvatron Figure.
We really need a new Tidal Wave titan
Great figure, hope they will make a Titan version someday because that fits his character. Never liked him as an accessory for Armada Megatron
Titan class Tidal Wave is a must, get it done Hasbro.
Such a fun figure

Then why did you add "hopefully" at the end? 😀
Picked up the Energon repaint of this guy a while back, and I have to say I prefer the colors on the Armada version better. May have to be on the look out for him.

Absolutely on all TF lines but nothing says TFs like G1

Hasbro. Titan class Tidal Wave. While I may not have the budget or desk space for him I WANT people to be able to want to get him.
HASBRO LEGACY TITAN TIDAL WAVE!
I have this guy in his purple iteration.
We need Tidal Wave Titan class and Rampage commander class figs.
I lucked out and got this guy for twenty bucks last year. He was missing his missiles, but for 20 bucks I didn't care
