Blues rock and progressive rock from the mid 60s into the 70s were by far the most important progenitors of heavy metal. I would go so far as to say that early heavy metal, up until the latter half of the 70s, WAS progressive rock with a pinch of blues rock. Perhaps most evident in bands like Judas Priest.
Tristan Wright97 this man saved the whole Fear Innoculum album in a playlist and created another for acid trip videos, please off yourself you ignorant hipster 🤣
Brian Lopez Yeah, it's similar but not quite. Electric Funeral is one of the most famous Doom Metal songs, so maybe he adapted the riff from that song.
Mr. Platinum I don't sorry. I'm a huge Priest/Maiden fan (as you can see from my name) so I just knew those off the top of my head. Seems very Pantera-ish though, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was based off of something by them.
I would say about the same time, there was a rivalry there, but I won't say thrash is counter strike to glam. It's more like a product of NWOBHM, Punk and Speed Metal
Slayer and Metallica both started in the Bay area underground in '82. It's close but, I guess actual commercial success came just about the same time ('83-'85??) with the people I hung with transitioned straight from Iron Maiden to Metallica and instantly hated glam. Back then we called them poser metal or hair spray crap. Glam fits better, they weren't posers, they were exactly what they were trying to be...lame...and they certainly got it right lol. You absolutely knew who they were though, I'll give them that...no shame in their 2 cans of spray hair...skin tight parachute pants...100 bandanas wrapped around their wrist...and those freak'n '79-'80-'81 "All show/No go" Cameros with the shackle lift rear ends and their crap blasting out of those tin can sounding 6x9 speakers. They had some fuck'n hot ass bitches there for awhile too.

This was the first video I liked with this account
This was awesome! Now just a thought, my guitar mentor (Makoto guitar samurai) once taught me that classical music was truely the first metal, they just had not invented electricity yet.
Thought it was really cool how this guy also played different styles within the subgenres, since not every Heavy Metal band sounded the same for example, never seen anyone else do that in one of these vids

You couldn't be more wrong, this sounds nothing like any first wave band, it's certainly second wave (norwegian stuff). And he's not being optimistic, norwegian black metal sounds exactly like that. Try Burzum or Darkthrone.
+Platinum Bard hahah You don't need to like Varg to like Burzum, his music is very good even though he has strong ideals(nazi if you like hehe). The riff he plays in the video reminds me of a song but I don't remember exactly which one, but it's certainly norwegian. Check Ea Lord Of The Depths from Burzum. You can always hate the people and love their music, that's what I do heheh. Kidding, I don't hate anyone, just don't agree with them either.
+Platinum Bard That's a little too much don't you think? I don't even buy their stuff but even if I did it wouldn't be as bad as you put. They're bands not political parties. I just care for the music, most of the listeners think like that too.
No. Technically doom metal was first. First self titled track of Black Sabbaths self titled album... recorded in 1969. Unbelievable. But truth is that many were concurrent. You had Mötley Crüe making glam metal same time as Megadeth was making thrash metal same time as Iron Maiden was making heavy metal etc etc etc.
Funny cause i cant tell what any deathcore song or progressive metal song is just from hearing it on a radio or playlist, but i can instantly recognize korn, sevendust, orgy, cold, adema, etc right off the bat, and luckily they make way better riffs than what was represented as nu metal in this vid.
I feel like for the start of the thrash section he realized, “oh shit, i literally just did Metallica’s No Remorse note for note” then changed the last two beats to recover.

Elliott Haygarth Yes from the era when Maiden were cool as
heavy was straight maiden
KingSyrian You say that like there is a difference
KingSyrian And Judas Priest
KingSyrian the first one sounded like Judas priest though
Heavy dose of the Trooper, and the signature Maiden dual lead.
It was, he played 'Phantom of the Opera' from their self titled album
For Power Metal did he play goddamn Canon in D?
Yeah pretty much.
Exactly canon rock
It's E

Not bad, but between Blues Rock and Heavy Rock, it's missing the Psychedelic Rock which is one of the most important precursors to early Heavy Metal.
The my littlepony metal
Are bronies into metal
I was thinking the same thing. So pysch rock like Blue Oyster Cult, etc.
Some of us are. It's about a 3 in 100.
0:54 That riff played from the A string is basically No Remorse by Metallica.
Peace Sells by Megadeth is right around there too.
Recognized it perfectly
Sounds like black Friday by Megadeth
I'm crying djently.
Thats because Djent isnt music 🤣 Its GARBAGE

that doom metal riff was excellent! did you come up with it or was it from a song?
xAch1x yeah it was incredible
Electric Funeral by Black Sabbath is what it sounded most like to me
Brian Lopez Yeah, it's similar but not quite. Electric Funeral is one of the most famous Doom Metal songs, so maybe he adapted the riff from that song.
It's not exactly the same, but it's fairly similar to the main riff from Demon's Gate by Candlemass.
3:13 pachelbel's canon ?
Given that it represents power metal, probably a reference to DragonForce's Valley of the Damned, which uses Canon's chord progression in its chorus
loool then DragonForce is baroque???
By that definition Green Day would also be baroque because "Basket Case" uses the exact same chord progression. So no, DragonForce isn't baroque.
***** just joking, i know it :D
Yes, also the heavy metal part is similar to iron maiden's phantom of the opera
Industrial Metal?

Where is the Heavy Metal part from? It sounds like Iron Maiden to me
The first bit is Victim of Changes by Judas Priest and the rest of it is Phantom of the Opera by Maiden. Not exact renditions but similar ideas
Flight of the Trooper Thanks, might you know where the groove metal part is from?
Mr. Platinum I don't sorry. I'm a huge Priest/Maiden fan (as you can see from my name) so I just knew those off the top of my head. Seems very Pantera-ish though, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was based off of something by them.
Phantom of the Opera

Well, it's awfully cold out there
Glam Metal came before thrash. A lot of early thrash was a reaction to glam metal.
Glam Metal is a misnomer. It is not metal. It's soft rock with additional distortion, wearing spandex and eyeliner.
Patrick Holt That's why thrash was so aggressive in response.
yeah.. no.
They had some fuck'n hot ass bitches there for awhile too.
that groove metal riff was awesome, is that a real song?

Bruh I used to play this video all the time back then when I was around 13. Now I'm 20 and out of nowhere remembered the blues rock part. Loved it so much that despite not having listened to it for many years, I still remembered how the riff went. Wanted to take a trip down to memory lane so here I am. This was the first video I liked with this account
This was awesome! Now just a thought, my guitar mentor (Makoto guitar samurai) once taught me that classical music was truely the first metal, they just had not invented electricity yet.
People getting mad at subgenres are the types of people i hope to avoid for my entire life

Man you're musically too optimistic forBlack Metal.
+E Arabul It can be much more technical and more ambient.
+E Arabul Emperor plays the style he is playing in the video.
The phantom of the opera for heavy metal made the entire video great work

xD True haha
Crazy how this video is what got me into playing guitar more often. In fact, I saw my comment here from about 5 years ago.
Not correct chronologically, but I imagine not all these styles mesh well in certain orders.
