  • Ever since Apple started capturing HEIC files and LIVE files for all photos, I didn't think much about it. However, in video creation, I'm always left at a loss on what to do with these files. They are usually too short (under 2 minutes or less), don't always record the best sound, and I never really knew how I could use them.
    UNTIL NOW...
I was driving home from work knowing that I had over 800 files that I was going to use to put together for my EPIC Glacier National Park video. My plan was to NOT include any of the LIVE pictures files in my full-length video.
However, what if I strung them all together and found a buttery track to play in the background. I could effectively take a one-hour and forty-seven-minute video and shrink it down to about eight minutes video in length. It would act as the perfect teaser video.
The first problem was all of the pictures and videos from six different Apple phones turned out to be a small nightmare. Some actually captured the relevant metadata, while others did not. Unfortunately, everyone had their iPhones configured differently and Adobe Premiere Pro struggled to sort them in the order (or time of day).
So I did what I do best, I brainstormed and eventually came up with a great solution. Although it took longer to get to the edit, it made perfect sense.
I spent a few nights working on the project. I organized the bins into which day/date of our trip the metadata stated. It took longer than I had anticipated.
But, I wanted to create my own project template so all of my sequences are the same. In the past, when I wanted to repurpose the content in my videos into a teaser, tester, or UA-cam Shorts video, it always felt like I struggled to get stuff done. In fact, without the proper setup, I would end up doubling and tripling my editing time.
So for this project, I had one track for vertical-only videos, one for horizontal-only videos, and the main track for the videos. These short iPhone video clips were going to work out perfectly. Then when the main video is done, all I have to do is cut all of the vertical-only photos/videos and drop them into a new UA-cam Shorts sequence. Then and only then does this cut down on more editing time.
I hope you enjoy...the full-length video should be coming out sometime next week (10/8/24) #RSM307Studios
