No man no problem. Weld it up. This may be the first time in history when the woman sent the man to the store while she welded on the hotrod. I love America. Thank you for your time
Teamwork makes the dream work. Good steady progress so far. Keep on trucking.
Emily don't discount yourself!! you're awesome as well you guys make a great team and you're enjoyable to watch
The 57 is coming along very nice. You two are doing it right.
Always love adding new parts to fresh painted frame! Puts you in a happy place!
You two look like you have such a fun life together. You are very lucky to have each other. Love the 57 build and this was a great episode. Bless.
For reals ❤
I started watching your channel back when you started the Roxy engine build, It doesn't feel like it's been that long ago but almost 10 yrs. We need a 10yrs anniversary episode with the star being Roxy.Just a thought.
Loving this build! I had a shirt idea for ya that would be a hit. Ya'll need to immortalize Finley with a "shop dog" shirt.
I’d definitely buy one of those shirts!
Always great to watch the Flying Sparks team
Great Content! We not only love the progress,,, but we enjoy the process as well!
The welds look fine and the thing you can look at is you two did the work and you should be proud of that
If I had Garfield, I'd hit every show, cruise-in ....in Georgia. I learn a lot watching you two.
Keep up the good work and progress on the build. Remember that it is YOUR dreams that matter on this build. Make it meet your desires, not everyone else's ideals.
New parts on a freshly painted chassis is so satisfying!
Hey guys, I love the show! I've been watching you two for years. I've been an automotive technician for 30 years, and like you guys, I'm always learning. I would like to make a recommendation to Emily about welding. It is great to see you wearing the welding jacket and leather gloves, but I would highly recommend that you should have removed the flannel shirt you had tied around her waist while welding up the 4 link bars. I've seen flannel shirts catch fire with welding and grinding sparks. Just want to see you stay safe while doing what you love!
I was a TIG welder for 30 years before switching to the healthcare field. I absolutely loved TIG welding and aluminum was my favorite! I loved it so much I worked for a race car shop in my off days welding up roll cages, 4 links, etc etc etc. I sure do miss it a ton! If you ever need a pro for any welding projects I’d be happy to help out just to get my hands dirty again 😊😊😊
The shot of the axle flange with the black wheel studs looked pretty cool.
Magnetic base welding torch holder. Harbor freight has a cheap one that works. Your teamwork makes the show fun. Y’all rock.
Coffee and Flying Sparks makes for a great start of the day. Thank you both.
That's me, watch'n the team.
@@DanMestayer sure appreciate y’all!! ☕️
Good Job guys, it's coming around!
I need to go order me some more decals and the "Please Drive Me" lanyard.
I had them in my truck, the decals, ready to put on after a trip through the car wash, then a windows clean.
Before I could get that done my truck was stolen. Thankfully it was recovered in 3 days. But they had taken everything out of the truck.
Really glad to have my truck back, especially so quickly. Now I get to replace the lost stuff.
@flyingsparksgarage I installed that exact rear end kit and brakes last year and you appear to have the same problem I had. The studs have a shoulder preventing the rotor from fully seating against the axle hubs. The center currie logo hub of the axle should stick out from the rotor about an 1/8”. Your’s are flush indicating the rotors are held out on the stud shoulders from the hub. I had to drill the rotors to fit the shoulders so the rotor would go flush against the axle like it should and not be held out by the stud shoulders. Give that a look guys. Otherwise build is coming along. Looks killer!
You may have addressed this before, but you're painting the underside of the car as well, right ? I really like watching what you're doing on this build, it's going to be such a fun ride, I'm jealous.
@@hank3859 absolutely!!
Emily & Aaron, you guys are rockin on the '57, keep up the great Channel.
That's some nice work. Can't wait to see you guys driving it.
A fantastic video and you guys are doing a beautiful job. I could not add 1 thing more.
On a different note, it surprises me that Aaron can tolerate that garage door. With 106 degree temp., you are trying to cool the whole state of Texas!
Glad to see the Chevy coming together. This was a great video. You guys are FANTASTIC. THANKS
I know that it sounds a bit odd, the sound that a 3rd member makes when it slides into place and seats on the axle housing is very satisfying.
Ive watched some old time videos on the pinion angle. If the angle is pointed upward too much, compared to the up and down travel of the rear axle, It will cause a vibration ! So it does make sense ! I really like your 57 project ! Some day I hope that I will have the same project. Looking great !
I love the new and improved camera work!
I think some “rack focus”would make it even better
IMHO
yup, yall is infectious and your content is entertaining as well as educational. Next check, gonna get me some Flying sparks apparel for my birthday. Peace, yall
@@timothysmith2128 thanks so much!!! Happy birthday to you!
The 57 build is looking tyranorsaurs GREAT !! I saw what it was when you started..It is not quite the same right now...
I agree with Aaron on the wheels. Wide Rally.
That is a stock wheel style that I have loved since, well as long as I can remember. With the updated styles of Rally wheels you have some options. Stock sized slots. A bit bigger slots. Even really large slots.
The slots that are slightly larger than stock might fit good with the body style.
Like she knew what she was doing Welding 😂 Great job Em 👏 you guys are making it great ☮️
Prefect summary for my life "This is getting awkward...". You two never fail to amaze and amuse! Great stuff!
This is my age coming out, but my childhood in the 70's dictate that one of two wheels should be the ONLY wheel on an old Hot Rod. Either the American Racing polished aluminum Dish Mag, or the tried and true - NUMBER ONE WHEEL for old Hot Rods, the one and only Cragar 5-Spoke Mag.
5 Spoke is what popped into my mind.
@@scottzehrung4829 right?
Cragar still makes 5-spoke wheels both the old school traditional AND modern versions of it. My neighbor has an old Plymouth Satellite with Series 614C S/S Cragar's on 20". It looks pretty cool.
the channel is by far the best on u tube it ticks all the boxes for content and watch ability well done guys
No backing plates on the rear brakes? 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🤠
Great work guys, make sure you watch DD Spped shop video about bleeding those rear calipers, I used the same kit and couldn’t get them bled correctly either
You guys are great. Awesome job.
Hey y’all looking good, when tightening up the bolts use the car frame to help tighten, keeps fingers from getting pinched. GM lug pattern mid 4.75 full 5-5 , ford uses 4.5 more. Caddy calipers are used for most new 4 wheel disc now. Get to have parking brake .
Love the transformation y'all. Emily mentioned maybe rally wheels. Most of the easily obtainable ones are 5 on 4.75. The 5 on 4.5 is a typical Ford and Mopar size but there are certainly a ton of wheels for those too. Can't wait for the next installment on this car.
Love this! Where is "The kid"
I think your rear brake set-up is meant to have the caliper behind the axle. The e-brake cable won't pull the way you have them .
That is one sweet looking chassis, great work!
Can't wait to see more.
You have switched upper and lower shock bolts.
And I think the calipers is going on the rear side. Look at handbrake leaver arm and the tab hole for the cable.
FSG, great assembly video! Emily's a boss welder! Woman Power! That 57 Chevy is on its way to a fantastic build! Mega kudos!
Hello Emily....not trying to be "snarky", but be careful with your installation. Follow instructions carefully (review several times). Engineering is not about how something "looks." It is about design and function, so when they say to install washers on brake bracket bolts under the nuts, it's for a reason... not because "they look better under the head." In this case, there's no issue with two washers on your bracket bolts. But...now your side is different than Aaron's and that will always be there. Just advice that's all... keep up the fabulous work! You are very talented and I would love to have you wrench in my shop anytime! Looking forward to the finished product!
Love y'all's content. So inspiring. Makes me want to work on my project. Love your channel and all y'all do. Thanks for what you do
I appreciate watching yall
Beautiful work. Keep it going 👍
I always thought 2 deg down is looking from the front of the car. So engine crank centreline is 2 deg down at the rear...same as diff, so the front is up 2 deg. giving it 2 deg. down in the rear.
Nice when a plan comes together ✌️ thanks for the video!
looks great, loving the 57 build
Ah yes progress on a project is always great 👍 I'm finally getting close to having my ram 3500 back on the road . Great video y'all and God Bless
Love your channel!
At 28:02 you asked where you should take Garfield the work truck.
It's a looooong drive from Texas, but Garfield's the Cat's creator Jim Davis is from Indiana, so there are many Garfield character statues located in east-central Indiana near Muncie and throughout Grant County.
Look up Garfield Trail Indiana in a search engine for more details.
Grant County is also the birthplace of actor James Dean.
I tried posting a direct link to the Garfield Trail in a comment when this video was first posted, but the comment never appeared.
Had me worried with how you pressed those studs in. I was afraid you bend that flange preesing that way. I would of use a socket or short pipe placed over the stud individuallly to isolate the pressure on the flange. Glad to see you guys making such progress.
getting closer and closer to it getting finished, great video keep up the good work! -Jaxon
I just put some Vision Rally wheels on my old '52 Ford Pickup. They come in several different diameters and widths and they are dirt cheap. I got them from Discount Tire (My son works there) and without his discount, they are about $60 a piece. They might be Chinese wheels, but they look just like old nostalgic rally wheels and you can get various center hub caps for them to fit whatever style you're going for. Kind of like budget friendly Detroit Steel Wheels. I got 15 x 8s on my truck.
Old school Halibrand mag wheels always look awesome on the tri-fives
The rear is looking awesome
Nice! I love the whole setup! I love the awesomeness you show one another! Keep up the great work! ❣🎈❣🥇
Greatly enjoying the progress videos and the deeper dive into installation. Like I've written before, this reminds me of your early content. Great looking results!! Thanks for taking us along ~ Chuck . P.S. Rally wheels sound perfect for this!
Looking great guys!
Love the format.
Please don't take this as a negative comment but I've never seen a 9" conversion with the Calipers on the front side of the rotors. Not knowing what kit you're installing it appears the direction of the pull for your e-brake is facing the wrong direction. It looks like your cable would have to activate from the rear of the frame. Please verify before you get too far along. If you're correct I apologize. I recently did a conversion to a 9" rear on a 1965 Buick Skylark and the calipers with e-brake were on the rear of the housing. Love your video's but hope you are correct.
I believe another reason for the 2 degrees down on the front of the differential, is due to the torque factor. The nose will try to rise up when under power. Which would bring it more level.
All great stuff! Good video. Curious, was there a backing on the floor to prevent paint from being sprayed on the cement?
Looking good! Progress was made and fun was had...what more do you need wrenching on a classic.
I used what appears to be the same brake set up that you are using. My installation did not go as smooth. The first side I done ,the axle flange was 6-1/4 OD. The rotor was 6-1/8 ID. So it come back apart. When I checked the other side the Curry axel flange was 6-1/2” OD. When Emily was struggling with the rotor, the first thing I thought was the axel flange is to large. It all worked as it should for you. Keep up the good work
You both have a lot of people everywhere who like y'all. Every project you work on, has a lot of us interested. That's the idea for you to always have building them. I'm 30+ years into mechanics. I don't know all I have to because the cars keep evolving. What people used to call a headache, is why they last really long times. Barring accidents and blatant negligence, there's a whole lot of mileage everybody can get. Teaching your wife is smart on your part. Most women see a problem and they usually end up ignored. Emily has a working knowledge of what goes on with any vehicle. She may not realize it, but I'd bet money she can diagnose a problem. She's worked on enough vehicles, she's comfortable enough now to weld and finish fab work. Lord knows you've got a lot of that happening with this car. It's refreshing to see a woman be comfortable and curious, at the same time. I didn't want to sound condiscending or negative. Thirty years give me a little leaway in saying this. God bless you and all of your family. Working with the kid, she's learning helpful skills she'll be able to use when she leaves home. I do wish y'all all the best.
Wheel advice to keep in mind. A friend has similar brake set up on his 69 charger and using 15” wheels. His wheels have a step up inside on the outer part of the rim. If that makes since? The wheel I.D. At this step is 13” I.D. The wheel hit the caliper. I modified the caliper bracket to get enough clearance to use his wheels. It’s close and not much clearance between wheel and caliper. So when choosing wheels and size keep this in mind. As stated in earlier post ,I have the same brake caliper or similar set up on my 46 Chevy truck. I have 18” rims and no clearance problems.
A set of Billet specialty wheels would look really sick
Thanks for the Content! We are always glad to see You Two!!!!
Instead of spoked wheels, how about narrow trim rings and baby moon hubcaps. You can paint the wheels a contrsting color also. And for something for fun, paint the drive shaft white and put a red spiral stripe on it, ......yes a candycane or body color with a contrasting stripe.
C-Lock Nuts are awesome for holding on. Used them in Ag Equipment manufacturing.
For the wheels, Wheel Vintques Rallyes, 18x 9 rear, 17 x7-8 front.... get them through your buddies @ Summit
Can't wait to see you guys finished with 1957 Chevy,❤LoveJim J&R mobile service and God Bless y'all and your critters
Great video, great job on the 4 link rear , really looks awesome. Love the more frequent updates, PS Emily gets more beautiful every video ❤❤❤
I agree, Emily is really Pretty.
Like the weekly stuff.
I hope y’all have ac in that shop. North Texas has been crazy hot most of the week. I’m right next to Texoma and my dogs make it the porch and look at me like I made it hot outside.
I think that brake kit is setup for calipers behind the axle, look at the direction of pull on your e-brakes. It does look good all cleaned up.
It absolutely is wrong the way they have it .
lol on the callipers being opposite im a mechanic for fed ex ground i have several ford f-59 chassis the from the factory have 2 right side calipers on the rear axle
Great progress. I really enjoy all of your videos.Keep the vids coming.
I know it's too late now but installing the wheel studs the way you did risks warping the axle flange.
Nice work on the welding and painting! I was expecting a compliment from Aaron…
Also, new format of uploading projects in motion works great! In fact, I think it’s probably better because you’re probably less inclined to edit out portions to make it fit, giving us a more realistic DIY experience.
Torque thrust would look killer!!
a really great sunday morning- smoke a bowl, chorizo&egg tacos, and flying sparks garage!!
just got a Roxy shirt the GTO is rebadged Holden Monaro & i have a 1973 HQ Monaro coupe so i like the old & new Monaro's GMH Genral motors Holden. the original colour of mine is orchid metallic (pink).
If I was building that 57 I would go with Dayton wire wheels (100 spoke) two tone chrome and favorite color. Would prefer 15s but don't think they would clear the calipers so then I would go 17s only because of tire options. Personally I like the raised white letters (radial t/a, cobra, avenger) but unfortunately they only come in 15" diameter. And since so many new cars are equipped with 17s from factory options are endless from width to profile, speed rating, compound (sticky to slippery).
Great fun progress y'all kiddos
The car looks great. As always, I love the videos. Anything polished aluminum.
I would be tempted to get the tools that I needed for a road trip.
Load some camping gear into the other boxes, including a good pad or small air mattress to use in the bed to sleep on.
Then point the nose which ever direction seemed the best to go.
No set directions. No set time table. A cell phone for just in cases. And yep, an old style road atlas in case I get tired of exploring. There would be no getting lost, only finding places that I hadn't been yet.
Just a little tip... you could put the ground clamp on the vice somewhere so you don't have to keep taking it off and on the rods all the time.... the vice and the rods will be in contact with each other well enough to complete the circuit.
For the wheels I do like American Racing salt flat wheels(I think thats what they are called) it has a polished lip and center is a gray color.Very hot roddy.Other manufacturers make similar styles.
Hey, if you guys are looking for a wiring kit for your 57 Chevy.Look up painless the build wire and kids call painless
Are the rear calipers on the correct side? The parking brake cable bracket is backwards?
Awesome car! My dad passed in 2018, A '57 Chevy car painted deep purple was his dream car! Rock on y'all.
After discovering RTV in an aerosol I won’t hardly use anything else. It has so much longer shelf life after opening and easy to run a bead worth the money.
The one camera view when Emily was picking up the caliper made me do a double take. You're workbench looked like a bar for a moment! Eddie
A little dark today , need a lighting upgrade to shop to show off every shot better
Usually, the diff sits down at the front to help feed oil to the pinion bearing
