When drilling through vinyl with a hole saw, run the drill in reverse until it cuts through the vinyl, then go forward to cut through the backing. It won't grab the vinyl like that. :)

Them cables would be mounted on the inside of the boat. I'm to big to fit in a boat sandwich. There might have been a large access panel when I was finished along with some duct tape usage. That's how we do it in Alaska.😄😄😄

I have to give y'all an A+ on the control replacement. Especially when you're not familiar with them. Those seastar controls are kinda a pain in the rear! (Coming from a 27+ year mercury tech who has replaced over a hundred of them) I find them aggravating too! If you had used a mercury one, you would still had to cut out the opening some and replaced the cables to a different style, would have been considerably more expensive. Probably still easier than the seastar ones, lol. Good job!

I was lucky enough to grow up on beaches, in a sub topical region and have been boating all my life, still have a captains licence. A word of advice to newbie boaters, when you anchor down at low tide and want to leave your boat overnight, make sure you put out plenty of anchor rope/chain or else when the high tide hits it will either drag the nose of a small boat under water or pop your anchor out of the sand and float off with your boat. As for the explosion, that's why I never leave a can of CRC or WD-40 in the trunk of a car! LOL
