Let me humbly thank you sir; this is a big compliment for me,
I have to give credit for the creator of the Flight Model: Fred the creator of AirlandFS, who I work with on the development of this aircraft!
The caracteristics of the FM are based on the real life Huey and take in account many aerodynamics parameters. The new FM is indeed way more challenging but when AirlandFS is turn up 100% provides the most realistic flight experience possible where you can really feel the weight of the aircraft. There is is still some tweaking to be made and we are working on it!
Thanks for your great video and i am glad you like the bird! Don't forget to check out all the attachments!
    Cheers
    Taog

Couldn´t agree more. Massive helis and the Huey is massive in terms of weight, do not tend to jump around like the Bell 47. They are more stable just by the mass they have. Look some pilot videos of Huey Pilots on youtube. For the time being just use the airland profile of the H145 on the Huey and the whole thing is still a challenge but way better manageable.

I saw a guy hovering this thing in real life in front of a hangar in Oshawa, he held it rock solid, my greatest respect! Unfortunately this awesome model is inaccessible for me. Most versions so far make my flightsim crash to desktop. I have no idea why. Once I had it working and it was a joy to fly, but after that, my Sim doesn't tolerate it in my community folder any more. But hey, you did very well controlling this beast!

Your takeoff through ground effect was good... No collective required but when you pass through ELT (effective translational lift... Basically out of ground effect) you just need to use cyclic to climb out. And hovering a huey is very challenging for new helo pilots...i always described it was as being a juggling monkey balancing on a basketball. And the initial lift off the ground will typically be right front high and it will peel off the ground.

  • @i.r.wayright1457
    @i.r.wayright1457 2 роки тому +4

The rotors spin up way too fast on start up. It takes about 45 to 60 seconds to get up to speed. There is a switch we called the beep button, on the collective that was used to change the engine output shaft to transmission input speed from 6000 to 6600 rpm.. You used the 6600 for take off and landings or when you needed max power for any other occasion. Red line on the rotor speed is 345 rpm. Due to the rotor head design you can not go inverted and live to tell about it. BTW, one nice feature of the Huey and Cobra is the droop compensator cam, which was part of the throttle linkage. As you pulled more pitch, it added fuel so you didn't have to keep readjusting the throttle like in some piston powered helicopters. I would like to see how you control collective pitch on your computer set up. I have a HOTAS Warthog control system and I would use the left throttle control for engine rpm and the right one for collective pitch. So far I have been unable to get FS2020 to recognize that I do have a left throttle.

    • @bettytureaud

Most helicopteres now use FADEC so you dont need throttle

@@bettytureaud Maybe some do now, but not in the era of the Huey, which I used to work on. If you were in the Army in the 60s to 90s, you learned to fly helicopters in a Hughes TH-55 which had a Lycoming engine with a throttle that you had to adjust for the power you needed. Your left hand was the FADEC.

I think there’s a few changes into the Huey
    1. there’s needs to be more cockpit sounds
    2. After startup should go to ground idle, which you can then go to full power which is flight idle(as with real helicopters)
So far in this, I hope to see more for helicopters as we get closer.

Real world heli pilot here :) just bumped on this in UA-cam as it always happens with UA-cam lol. It was so much fun to listen to you :)) You made me laugh in a good way :)) "Busy but focused and not chaotic" Is pretty much what it is like Hahaha , certainly for the few first 100's hours but it eventually becomes second nature :).
There is only one limb you do not use in a helicopter, guess which one that is lol :). Regarding the cyclic and collective as well as pedals is just coordination and it eventually become part of you. It only takes a thought more than actual input. So flying white knuckles is not recommended, try loose, relax hand on the cyclic with fingers, apply light pressure and bare in mind that you need to wait a little after an input, (gyroscopic precession) and it will do what you want it to do, Think ahead is the trick :), Never "grab the grip and catch yourself with white knuckles ! It's like holding a baby by the hand not wrestling a dragon! Even if you lose hydraulics, again the forces will be multiplied and you r now holding a big boy rotor with rather big blades with serious momentum! The worst thing you can do is over correct a rotor. Using slight bumping action is much better than trying to wrestle the stick. I always found it rather funny when I would take a fixed wing pilot in the heli and give them the controls. HAhahaha. It's always good fun ! I'd say that 99% are very surprised at the lightness at which "inputs" are actually performed. Fixed wing inputs require sensibly more travel , more deflection, more action, not all fixed wings but the average fixed wing aircraft. Helis, the bigger you go the easier it gets, jumping from a skateboard to a Bentley lol ! So small piston helis are great to start with as it really your attention ! So a R22 is sometimes more often than not more challenging than a CB300 Schweizer, and a R44 Raven II being an upgrade to that, or a Jet long Ranger/R66 , and a Huey is even bigger than than that. It's really gentle , it is a teetering rotor system and allergic to zero G's! Mast bumping is baaad juju! So low pushover ! Not in a Huey , Not in R44 R22,66 and any other teetering rotor system. the UH60 is what we call a fully articulated rotor system so is threBO105, check what that thing can do ! Super efficient ! Much safer in my opinion. Ground resonance, yes it can be an issue but good maintenance goes a long way and if recognized in due time, GR is mostly a non issue. All helis have their pros and cons but they are awesome machines, They always make me relax, quiet, the "zone"as you referred. There is a big but though! Helicopters need to be treated with the greatest amount of respect and absolutely zero complacency !!There is no respawn! :))) Fixd wings ,fly high and fast. We fly low and slow, less room for mistakes is really what it means. I love helis to work with and FW for tons of fun in the sky! Acro is just wow! Hey! Your video was a super fun to listen to, great positive attitude ! Thank you :)
Go to the US and book yourself a demo flight or something ! Just do it ! You deserve it ! 😃👍👍👍

I tend to agree with Volker Dilger below. The UH1 or Heuy is also one of my favourite aircrafts in simulators and I so much want love this free mod. But there are just a few things wrong in the flight characteristics spoiling my emersion The transition from ground to hover, there's too much pitch, yaw and role action. Then flying the Heuy at speeds below 60 - 80, there's too much pitch & yaw ballooning going on. Which needs ironing out, which would be great. At speeds over 100 knots it'll seems fine. Which could mean the issues I'm highlighting could due to MSFS 2020 or AirlandFS and not the dev or the Heuy mod?
However as Mr Overkill says in this video this great video, this is a is a great freewarw module, by this dev and is not £60.00 payware, as the Huey is in DCS and I hope that this dev keeps up their great work. Show this dev the ❤

Indeed, I've spent plenty of time modifying flight models in previous sims, based on available data. Not the same as an experienced pilot testing a flight model and deeming it realistic though.
What occurs to me is that helicopter flight models are based on "the numbers" when a better approach is "degree of dificulty". A better approach is for the sim version to have the same or close to the degree of difficulty to fly as the real thing.
Based on just the numbers, doesn't account for the lack of sensory feedback in the sim. We can't feel it sink, climb, yaw. Thus based on the numbers is always going to be an unrealistic degree of difficulty.
