That's what I came here looking for! I played the hell out of that game way back in the day and it blew my mind! I forgot what it was called though lol
Some of important games missing: Fighter Pilot (ZX Sectrum) Solo Flight (C=64) Jet (MS DOS) Wings (Amiga) F/a 18 Interceptor (Amiga) Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe (PC)
"Fighter Bomber" both on Amiga and PC, and F-29 Retaliator were iconic as well at the time. My Amiga came with F/A-18 Interceptor, I loved it. I also loved how Wings! was hard drive installable on the Amiga
Great video but lot of the greats from back in the day are absent: Chuck Yeager's Air Combat, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, Red Baron, Aces of the Pacific, Commanche, AH64 Attack Helicopter, to name a few. 😀
You missed several titles here... Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Trainer, Birds of Prey, all the editions of X-Plane (you mentioned only the XI, where are the other 10?), Comanche Maximum Overkill, Fighter Bomber and many others. I understand that to cover them all it would take a very long video, but there are some very important and famous titles that have been left out.
a few more for the list: ZX Spectrum: Tomahawk (AH-64 sim) [DI], Atari ST: MiG-29 Fulcrum, MiG-29M Super Fulcrum, F-16 Combat Pilot [DI] and HiSoft ProFlight (Tornado sim), PC: Tornado [DI], Ah-64 Apache [DI], Hind [DI], F/A-18 Hornet [DI],EF-2000, F-22 ADF, F-22 Total Air War, A-10 Cuba, F/A-18 Korea and Take On Helicopters One company releasing on all these platforms: Digital integration [DI] The most obscure is probably HiSoft Proflight as they are better known for their ZX Spectrum and Atari ST programming tools/Dev environments
I remember my father starting off with FS for the C-64 back in 86. Today, 2024, he is still playing, with the latest version of the game at 79.. He has so many modes, controls and money invested in that game. Nice to be retired with plenty of time on your hands..
1) Chosing the most boring moments for the most of the games? 2) 1 mln versions of FS and only one of DCS? 3) Where're other flight sims: Figher Pilot (Sinclair), LHX (DOS), F-19 (DOS), F-16 and Mig-29, Ka-50 Black Shark? Also I would divide games into simulators (DCS, LockOn, LOMAC, Hot Cliffs 1/2/3, IL-2 series, etc) and arcades (Ace Combat, X-Plane, etc)
So the Chuck Yeager genre of sims wasn't worth mentioning, despite flight model characteristics years ahead of its time??? And F-117? And a couple of amazing helicopter sims? And Falcon BMS?
I was born in 86 and the first time ever I played a sim was in 98 . My dad had bought the ADF F-22 and Jane’s fighters anthology, those games was my introduction in the combat sim genre .It’s amazing to me that simulations were around even before I was born and we have come a long way since then .
Falcon 3 was the first flight sim I ever bought! That was 32 years ago and I’m still flying the F16 but in VR on DCS now! Just a small jump in immersion 😂
My first sim was A.C.E. on C64, then we had Red Baron pre-installed on a PC a family friend built -- but Falcon 3.0 was the first sim I bought with my own money too! Pocket money or Christmas money, can't remember which 😅
DCS must have been tricky to figure out where to put in the list. Technically, it's much older than 2022, but it's been upgraded so much that it's almost like a whole new game.
How have flight simulations evolved since 1979? If you know of any other games not on this list, please feel free to list them in the comments. What is the best simulation?
Falcon, Falcon AT, F-19, Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Trainer, Jet Fighter series, Eurofighter, LHX and Jane's series of flight sims. I'm sure there are a lot more than what you have.
I almost got my Dad to buy us a Lynx for Warbirds alone. He had his PPL when younger, and had to let it go later as it became too expensive of hobby to upkeep, but we was always fascinated by flight simulators. When I showed him Warbirds running on a Lynx at a display unit in some game store, he was blown away...but not quite enough. He made a deal where if I save up half the money, my parents would kick in the second half, but...money burns holes in the pockets of a young teenager.
Nice video, but I'm genuinely surprised to not see even one game from the "Jane's" collection on PC... especially stuff like Longbow 2 and WWII Fighters.
Pacific fighters (it was called Pearlharbor locally) and X-Plane 7 was my first interaction with flying in general. Landing B-25 on carrier or flying around world with SR-71 - teens were "eventfull" despite living in rural area without any access to internet (except short periods at school ) - only in late 00s area got "up to modern standards".
So many left out ... Lucasfilm Battle of Britain, Battlehawks 1942, Aces of the Pacific, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, Janes Fighters Anthology, Janes WW2 Fighters, Novalogic F-22 Lightning 3, -Mig-29, European Air War..
Not one Janes Fighter Anthology or US Navy Fighters was included. No Mig 29 Fulcrum, or Joint Strike Fighter either 😢 They totally got the cold shoulder. All were pretty games, Janes were both pretty and accurate.
Great compilation but missed some essentials giving to much space to IL-2. I played a great combat simulation: TFX (Eurofighter EF-2000, F-22 Raptor and AWACS)
I can't believe that the great "SUPER EF2000" (Windows 95!) from the guys at DID isn't on this list... How many hours did I spend with this simulator from 1996 😢
Fighter Ace II and III was my first experiences with online combat and I was pretty good at it, esp chewing up the rookies with the BF-110. I also remember when FA 3 had free events and sometimes for a time free servers with basic aircraft. That was a fun time. Otherwise most of my flying has been done Single Player up to DCS :P Was Hornet 3.0 in there or did I miss it? Also missing the Strike Fighter series with TK trying to keep the spirit of the easily accessable and moddable flight sim alive :)
The video is really beautiful. I would also like to see flight simulators on the Amiga 500 and Amiga 1200 platforms. Fighter Bomber, F/A18 Interceptor, Combat Air Patrol, Birds of Prey, Tornado, Mig-29 Fulcrum and F-117 Stealth Fighter and many others that I have forgotten.
Amongst a ton of WWI sims like Red Baron, Red Baron II/3D, Wings, Blue Max, Knights of the Sky... You missed the fantastic Wings Over Flanders Fields the most recent version is Between Heaven and Hell II and still actively supported with a new version coming in 2024.
Gunship 2000 was released in 1991, and there were a 2 versions of MiG-29, one for PC and one on the Mega Drive... Loving the nostalgia though!! I started with MSFS 3.😊
I didnt see A-10 Cuba! on the list, that was the first flight simulator me and my brother got to play on our parents Macintosh systems. Had no idea what we were doing. When we managed to get off the ground and actually do something though....bliss.
YES. You never disappoint. Probably my new favorite vid of yours seeing as "Ace of Aces" (best game ever) as well as Microsoft Flight Sim for the C64 and MS-Dos are probably my earliest memories of "video games" I talked my grandfather into buying a beefy PC he didn't need just so I could upgrade to the DOS version. Prerequisite for every kid was to fly into the Twin Towers in NYC (too soon?)
One of the best PC air game ever made. Such a overtimed game with amazing mechanics, even damage zones etc. But there were no campaign like in other games.
I am missing Microprose F-15E Strike Eagle III, DID EF2000, Janes simulations (F-15E, F/A-18, USAF and IAF), and Razorworks EECH. Some pretty big and important militairy simulations IMO.
Missing the Sierra/Dynamix games. A-10 Tank Killer, Red Barron, Aces of the Pacific, Aces over Europe. And some other Microprose games namely the B-17 games. Also the Janes series of sims. And DCS did not come out in 2022, it came out in 2008 it's simply still updated and maintained. But then again so are many of these other games. The IL2 Great Battles games, Flying Circus...
It's comedic to me that I could play a flight sim wherein I'm a passenger by the window, maybe getting ready to take a nap. Which pillow should I choose? :-) Sounds like something on The Simpsons.
As someone else's Chuck Yeager flight simulator as the best. But while it might be impossible for the Creator to find, the KayPro my friend Sander had had an excellent Flight Simulator, although a little unrealistic in that you could switch planes mid-flight if I recall. Imagine going at Mach 2 in an SR-71 and then going into a Sopwith Camel. It did indicate that the plane was literally torn apart.
Nice list but some mandatory milestones are missing: F-15 Strike Eagle II and III, TFX, DID Tornado and EF2000.. also Apache longbow / AH-64D Longbow (wich came out almost together in time).. even LHX going back
F/A-18 Interceptor on Amiga. Their Finest Hour on Atari ST. Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe on Atari ST and Amiga. Fighter Bomber AKA Strike Aces. EF2000. Janes ATF. F-19. Janes Longbow 2. Overlord. Knights of the Sky. Wings. Wings of Fury. Just to name a fair few you bypassed for "Jet De Go" 😂
Am I mistaken about a game in the near 2001s Microsoft combat flight sim? I can remember loads of days of coming home from school and hoping on the old family pc to play that and you could load up custom missions where you picked your plane and the enemies you could fight against, you could choose to spawn in doing head ons or spawn behind the enemies with either High, Low or same altitude settings. I have very fond memories of shooting the engines on bombers and watching them burn and slowly go down. IL-2 is the closest looking game I see on here
im surpriced they consider world of war planes a sim but not war thunder bruh
They have Ace Combat and Thunderblade included. It's anything but a serious list.
Chuck Yeager's Air Combat, Birds of Prey, F-15 Strike Eagle II, F-19, F-117, Harrier Jump Jet, Tornado...
LHX, Secret weapons of Luftwafe
Absolutely Chuck Yeager's Air Combat, and Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, should be on anyone's list.
their finest hour too!!
F-19 Stealth Fighter, X-29 Retaliator.
Fighter Bomber on the C64. Only 2 fps, but I spent countless hours in that 'sim'.
DCS has been around for several years. Didn't just come out in 2022.
More than 15 years, and really deserves a place in this list. Beats all of them in realism nowadays.
That awkward moment when you don't know what a flight simulator is.
And the inclusion of SimplePlanes is literally makes it more nonsense 😂
I'm surprised you left out Jane's WWII Fighters. That was a classic for me.
and Janes ATF and USNF
Jane's Longbow2
Jane's USNF 97 and USAF or IAF
It was a classic for everyone that liked WWII sim.
That's what I came here looking for! I played the hell out of that game way back in the day and it blew my mind! I forgot what it was called though lol
Jane's USAF, Gunship, F22 Lightning 3, F-16 Multorole Fighter, Mig29 Fulcrum, Enemy Engaged 2, Commanche 4 etc. etc.
ALSO A-10 Cuba and F/A18 korea
Un tiempo jugué el janes y no pasaba del entrenamiento ja!
Some of important games missing:
Fighter Pilot (ZX Sectrum)
Solo Flight (C=64)
Jet (MS DOS)
Wings (Amiga)
F/a 18 Interceptor (Amiga)
Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe (PC)
Fighter Pilot was also available for the C64 😊
F-16 combat pilot 1989’ was so good game
And also "Pro Pilot 99" was also a good flight simu. (sur PC).
"Fighter Bomber" both on Amiga and PC, and F-29 Retaliator were iconic as well at the time. My Amiga came with F/A-18 Interceptor, I loved it. I also loved how Wings! was hard drive installable on the Amiga
@@davidewhite69 Fighter Bomber, was a real Master Piece...
Red Baron 3D and some Janes USAF/US Navy Fighters were pretty influential in the day, sad to see them not included
Agreed 100%.
Agreed, I remember them better than half of what was shown here. As a kid, I dreamed of playing Red Baron 3D
Janes F18 and F15E were gems. And FA18 3.0 as well.
Janes ATF ❤🤘🏻
Great video but lot of the greats from back in the day are absent: Chuck Yeager's Air Combat, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, Red Baron, Aces of the Pacific, Commanche, AH64 Attack Helicopter, to name a few. 😀
Chuck Yeager was my absolute favorite for several years. I also went on several Military ride in simulators, but on very easy modes.
@@T_bone "It's a great day for flying" 🙂
Also Wings, Knights of the Sky and F/18 Interceptor. :)
@@davidknowles2491 I forgot Knights of the sky! 👍
TOP 1 NOW IS IL2.....CHUCK. AND HELLCATS OVER THE PACIFIC...THE BEGINING OF THE DREAM.....
You missed several titles here... Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Trainer, Birds of Prey, all the editions of X-Plane (you mentioned only the XI, where are the other 10?), Comanche Maximum Overkill, Fighter Bomber and many others. a few more for the list:
ZX Spectrum: Tomahawk (AH-64 sim) [DI],
Atari ST: MiG-29 Fulcrum, MiG-29M Super Fulcrum, F-16 Combat Pilot [DI] and HiSoft ProFlight (Tornado sim),
PC: Tornado [DI], Ah-64 Apache [DI], Hind [DI], F/A-18 Hornet [DI],EF-2000, F-22 ADF, F-22 Total Air War, A-10 Cuba, F/A-18 Korea and Take On Helicopters
One company releasing on all these platforms: Digital integration [DI]
The most obscure is probably HiSoft Proflight as they are better known for their ZX Spectrum and Atari ST programming tools/Dev environments
I'm so lucky i witnessed this all. I started with F-15 Strike Eagle on Atari and now i play DCS. What a huge leap in technology during my life.
I started off with sub-logic flight simulator 2 on the C64 and now play MSFS2020 in VR. Really seems like what was science fiction has become reality.
Gunship 2000 is from 1991.

Did you just missed out NES Top Gun? And War Thunder?
They’re not simulators unfortunately.
@@ekram1v135 If you noticed some games in this video are also not simulators.
War thunder has simulation mode that's almost as realistic and sim as DCS.
War thunder? Lmfao
Birds of Steel, in realistic and simulator mode is good
1) Chosing the most boring moments for the most of the games?
2) 1 mln versions of FS and only one of DCS?

X-Plane is arcade?
So the Chuck Yeager genre of sims wasn't worth mentioning, despite flight model characteristics years ahead of its time??? And F-117? And a couple of amazing helicopter sims? And Falcon BMS?
I am missing the BMS Falcon here, which is the most complex and the most realistic simulator of combat aircraft today.
I think falcon 4.0 still to this day is one beautiful game it’s the best looking for 1998 and still holds up in 2023 with bms updates
And still better than DCS.
I was born in 86 and the first time ever I played a sim was in 98 . My dad had bought the ADF F-22 and Jane’s fighters anthology, those games was my introduction in the combat sim genre .It’s amazing to me that simulations were around even before I was born and we have come a long way since then .
I remember those days. Having to drive to the software store to browse the boxes.
It's cool how you included SimCopter in this list
Falcon 3 was the first flight sim I ever bought! That was 32 years ago and I’m still flying the F16 but in VR on DCS now! Just a small jump in immersion 😂

A series of games: IL-2 Sturmovik - The Best!
Afterburner
TFX
Falcon, Falcon AT, F-19, Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Trainer, Jet Fighter series, Eurofighter, LHX and Jane's series of flight sims. I'm sure there are a lot more than what you have.
Ace combat

I bet every single step of the way we were like "It's so realistic!"
gunship 2000 didn't actually come out in the year 2000, it came out in 1991
It's amazing that FlightGear is still kicking! I hear they adapt to Vulkan now.
FligntGear is Open Source and it is developing quite actively
SUPER VIDÉO 👍 MERCI ET QUE DE BEAUX SOUVENIRS 👌
How to tell the editor plays Ace Combat and IL2, but cant handle DCS. (shakes head in pathos)
Magnifico trabajo, gracias.
ProPilot 99 forgotten
Black Knight (PC) and US Navy fighters (PC) both in the 90's were my favourites of all time, now i play DCS, which is unbelievably good
Pretty nice that you also included Ace Combat games as well, even though I only played X and Joint Assault
I certainly played some of them since the 90s but I still got parts that I missed as a kid. With Steam and GOG parts of it have been covered.
8:38 Gunship 2000 was released in 1991 ....not in 2000!
There's a lot of wrong dates. DCS is 15 years already
Looking at the PC ones, it seems most of them would have required a beasty PC for the year they were released.
