Okay, I had this happen to my Makita impact over two years ago. Tried EVERYTHING to get it out. Magnets, picks, glue a piece on top to pull out and much much more. Today, I have seen the light. Hallelujah! I'm gathering the needed tools and will be performing a Makitaoscopy this weekend. THANK YOU for the timely content. So glad that I subscribed.

Well hopefully yours turned out better than mine. I couldn't get anything to budge.
Out of curiosity, if you'd already tried picks and magnets, then what was revolutionary about this?

Thanks mate 👍. I followed your instructions with my Makita impact driver today. It worked a treat. I still had to grip the bit with a large pliers and tap the pliers with a hammer. But now my Makita is saved. Someone else advised to disassemble on a towel to avoid the ball bearings rolling away- great tip. I would also suggest having a tea towel or something held over the tool as you dismantle it. That will help stop parts springing across the room (it happened to me). Thanks so much.

Hi Tim, I pulled it out with a strong magnet, came right out, my 1/4 impact will not pull lugs off! Everything under the hood is not a problem, not lugs! Your tool talent is very impressive Tim, I’ve seen you do some tear downs and install a lift and now this broken bit repair, excellent quality video, ty so much, Bob,

You are the man!! Thank you for your part in extracting a step drill bit that broke off and was a little rusty on the end which caused it to stick inside that much harder. I was using a ryobi impact which has 3 ball bearings in it. I guess they don't want those bits coming out at all. Now off to give another guy props for putting what little bit of the bit that came out after your instructions, but needed to put the bit in a vise and tap on the impact shaft and it finally broke loose. Thanks again brother. Im subscribing tonight to your channel.

Out of all the videos online, this one was the best. I SPENT HOURS watching videos and trying to get my bit out of my impact driver. I did everything this video said to do and it worked. The process took me ALOT LONGER but I did get the bit out and my driver is working as it should. I own a Makita (which I love) but to replace it would have cost $$$$$....thank you....PS. use a magnet tray for sure. The little parts can go flying..Be sure to do this in an area where you will be able to easily find and see tiny parts if dropped. I did end up spraying WD40 on it and letring it sit for a few hrs too. I DID THIS ABOUT 3 TIMES BEFORE i finally got it

I have a Worx Switchdriver, and first month had this problem. Called the company, they sent me out a new one, one month goes by, and the second one gets a bit stuck in it again. Threw them both to the side and went back to my tried and true Makita.
Today, I found you and as soon as I get a magnet, I’m going to follow your instructions. Who knows, I might have two Switchdrivers that actually work. But, I’m never buying a Worx tool again…ever. Unless, you give one a good review. Cause I trust you. Thanks.

I saved this video because in several tool and construction Facebook groups I'm in I see posts almost every day from people upset about breaking off bits in their impact. In fact I've already posted this video on Facebook in response to someone who has broken a bit. This isn't necessarily the easiest method but it is the surefire method and that's what counts. Sometimes it's faster to go the surefire method and move on versus spending an hour trying to wiggle a broken bit out.

A related tip…if you get a bit that is stuck because it twisted in the collet, there are two things to try.
    1. Try using the tool in reverse while holding the bit with pliers, vice, etc. that may get it untwisted enough to remove. If not, try option 2
    2. If you can get a solid hold on the bit using a slide hammer attachment, try using a slide hammer to remove it while holding the collet release. You might need a second pair of hands for this. This is why I now own a slide hammer, got a bit stuck in my impact and option 1 didn’t work. Option 2 got it out on the first try.

Thank you, great information. I have shared on woodworking forums. I was thinking keeping a strong magnet or two nearby to where you are disassembling might snag any runaway ball bearing before it headed off to the abyss never to be seen again. Also if you spread a cloth about 24x24 inches out you'll have a surface that ball bearings will not roll away on.

Great video, and I have a challenge with a RYOBI impact driver with a stuck chuck collar and prevents changing the bit. So, following your detailed step by step instruction, I was able to remove the spring clip, washer and tension spring, at which point the chuck collar was still stuck. Using a tip from another youtuble video, I placed the stuck bit in a bench vise and pushed the reverse button. Success, the chuck collar loosened and I was able to remove the bit, and subsequently slide the collar off. Surprisingly, there were no bearings. I was very careful to disassemble the tool on my work bench and capture each piece in sequence as you recommended. I am curious, could the bearings have disintegrated due to my excessive use. This tool is just a week old, but I have been constructing campaign signs with 3 and 1/2 inch wood screws and salt treated 2x4s. After day four, I found that I could not remove the T25 bit. It appears to be manufactured to utilize two bearings, given that you can see day light thru the shaft from the opposing holes. Any suggestions? Have you taken apart a RYOBI impact driver? If so, did it have bearings? If I have lost my bearings (literally) how do I acquire the correct size? Thanks!

When I tried using my recent purchased Ryobi brushless 18V 4 Speed Impact Driver (PBLID02) I didn't have any problems like these, and I've been using the tool in my jobsite for 3 weeks now, installing Timberloks and Spax for the Attached Deck. I got a Makita T-30 Torx bit that broke and I moved the collet forward and the broken bit ejected with ease. I guess it's because of the Ryobi collet have a strong spring mechanisms there not like my DeWalt DCF887 and Hitachi triple hammer impact driver where I have to disassemble the collet to be able to retrieve the broken bit.

That happens for using the poor quality drivers that break easily. Thank you thank you 🙏👍
