- Detailed toy review of the Thomas and Friends Trackmaster playset Risky Rails Bridge Drop. This playset keys into the film Blue Mountain Mystery and there is loads of play-ability in the set related to the film.
Overall this is an amazing playset which will not disappoint those who like Thomas Tank Trackmaster toys. I set up some extra challenges for Thomas to perform and Diesel 10 also has a play.
Possibly one of the best and largest Trackmaster sets on the market. I am very impressed with this train set.

Man I remember getting this set one night at Toys-R-Us with my Mom when I was little. Fun times those were. I miss them a lot.
In my books Cranky is a character...and a really important one
He has a face, he speaks, and he has had a few Thomas stories where he plays a major role. Looks like he's in quite a few playsets and toys

Getting that Cranky shot was rather difficult, and I must also say that Cranky can easily lift the tall part of Risky Rails.
From the little play I have had with massive Trackmaster Cranky it's a must have item. It's really impressive and very large.
Hiding Luke inside the playset is a clever idea 👍

Thomas the train 1 Trackmaster 2 trains are bad but the actual sets in my opinion are awesome.

here in Oz we get the English version of Thomas...I come to youtube to hear the American version and just in that change of accent there is a huge difference to the feel of the show..

funny about growing out of Thomas..because when you have kids you can grow back into Thomas....for some they never grow out of Thomas and enjoy it for the whole of their life

WHOA....it's really interesting to see Canada has similar prices to Oz...yet your right next to the cheapest prices in the USA...so many people have been saying 50 to 60 dollars in the USA Walmart
Personally I think BMQ is what became of the workings form the Rusty and Boulder episode from a LONG time ago. If only Thumper was revived and some of the spirit of that classic episode.

My son LOVES Luke, but he does not seem to enjoy the new film Blue Mountain Mystery, he looses interest in the part where Thomas goes looking for the mystery yellow engine. The story from Luke is difficult to comprehend and it's a tad dark.
Compared to Day Of The Diesels and even Misty Island he will watch these videos day in day out
The flash back scenes to other episodes was brilliant to see, I see there is a effort to tie into previous long lost stories
I would class my Rheneas as darkish red, but hey we all now have to go out and buy the new colour...I wonder how many characters from now on will be given a new splash of colour..?? If anything it will keep the collectors collecting.
Cranky silence once his head pops off is a little unnerving
Anyway this set is blast from the past see how the track is all one color and sticking to the ground also the track pieces are useful is useful for railway expansion
Even though a large majority of the set is based around the drop itself it nice to see there is things for little Thomas to do you wouldn't see that in today's track master

Yes I like your thoughts about comparing what the old classic TOMY or other engines performance on this set. I did leave out that this set because of the big elevation is actually a battery chewer. I am certain the fake copy TOMY Thomas would really struggle on this playset.
I'm just glad here is a large and fairly interesting all in one layout
Yes...it's almost like those who put the toys together are on a different planet to those who make the Thomas films.

Yes i have to agree with the the fact it's very different to put together compared to other trackmaster sets, but I did find the instructions to be fairly well laid out. It's not the sort of set you can rush build..
And as for Thomas falling off the tracks....I say bring it on, my son loves it when Thomas takes a dive
sounds nice indeed...I have a friend who lives down south and he seems to have really hot summers and the threat of some fairly savage storms
yes, we would all enjoy a special faced Thomas, TOMY used to do that in a few sets

Yep I have said this over and over. Tallest playset is Cranky and Flynn set
yep, if only it had a good and evil character in the set it would be easily one of the best playsets....but hey we are stuck with stuffy old Thomas....mind you thats another for my massive collection
The biggest let down of the set is the fact we have yet again Thomas included, if only it had one of the narrow gauge characters...but hey we don't get to make the big decisions
because Cranky is remote controlled he literally made himself fall....it took many attempts to have him fall the right way and have Thomas make a fast escape

I agree that Thomas looks a little too much out of place on the BMQ layout. I wish it had been someone like Rheneas(who had a big role, and I'm glad to see you agree!), Paxton the new diesel, Luke, or another NG character.
Loved the FAIL reel. Some of those shots where Cranky went down and took Thomas with him gave me a good laugh. The best yet, I think.

hi great vid i had an idea make a minature railway layout aswell because Ada,jane,mabel mike and frank are all minature trains and there are others aswell though
thats a great idea but I was keeping this video clean of knock off toys for obvious reasons

thanks for the price check, I'll tell you something this set basically sold out here in Oz and the best I ever saw it for was $80 Australian. there was no after Christmas price because they were all gone

yes, thats a wonderful thought...lets hope Fisher Price or who ever makes these big decisions have a read through the comments related to who should have been included in this playset

I really like the looks of this train set. It kinda reminds me of the Action Canyon set they released a few years ago when the Great Discovery came out, mostly because of how the engine climbs up and then drops down to the bottom.

I noticed that you're Cranky has an English accent. I bought my little bros the Cranky set with Flynn and our Cranky has an American accent. My brothers love your Thomas videos.

The addiction to have Thomas land in every major set is a tad sad
I'm pretty sure the upper levels of the Blue Mountain Quarry was all laid out as narrow gauge, remember the scene where Thomas tries to go up into the quarry and he gets into trouble
I did see a dual gauge roundabout and some on the lowest level of the quarry

Those blue rails really do look nice and unique. I agree with you when you say Thomas shouldn't be in this set it should be one of the narrow guage engines. I think they put Thomas in so many of these set because if you get your first ever trackmaster set as a child your not going to want some random engine you'll want thomas. However I think Thomas should only come in starter sets, this is not one.

I love Blue Mountain Mystery, and the merchandise for it is brilliant. I'm thinking of getting some Take n Play Blue Mountain Mystery sets to go with the Luke I bought

HA! I loved the extra little detail of Luke underneath the set at 0:16. And the fact he hides about all over the place!
Anyone who comes to Oz from the USA will be shell shocked when they see the stupid high prices which are across so many things here in Oz
I know the company IKEA has been exposed with super high pricing here and much of the stuff is made in countries just above Australia
Problem is we have a tiny population, high taxes and isolation from the rest of the world...so it's a free for all in the cost of many goods here
I can tell the Trackmaster 2.0 engines would love the incline

I collected thomas for 9 years and the biggest set I got was tomy ultimate set it came with the sheds docks around 4 stations and that's it

ummmm, well....my Cranky came with a layout or track, Flynn and some accessories, it sure looks like a playset to me.
now to me a playset has a loop of track, some characters and keys into other playsets
Cranky is a playset in the way I bought him, if he was all alone he would be just a Character

Risky Rails Bridge Drop is his reward for going poop on the potty, so he sits on the potty with the toy in a box in front of him and your video playing on top of it! We watch all your videos, please keep them coming!!

There seems to be two sets getting about, I have a feeling the one that many in the USA are quoting is the smaller set..I hope. If it's this large set and it's $40 USD well I better start doing some major investigations to why it a set which costs over $100 in Australia

1/21/2024 Edit: I did actually end up getting this for Christmas 2012, from my Grandmother. I had visited her house on weekends several times between me getting the Blue Mountain Mystery DvD in September, to when I received the set in December. I'm pleased to say I still have managed to keep all the pieces all for except the one curved track at the top which stops Thomas/engines for unloading their boulder. Luckily I have some extra BMQ themed curves (which I have NO idea how I ended up with) which I place in. However, one of these days I'd like to get a replacement piece so engines can stop by the flick of a lever, rather than me half-hazard grabbing them.
Anyway, glad to see you still have so many of your older videos up as they offer a great reference point for TTTE merchandise for any given year from 2010 onwards. So thank you! :-)

My son loves your videos. He got this set for Christmas. It was 50.00 Canadian at the Wal Mart here, but Fisher Price had a coupon for 20.00 off we got with out Today's Parent Magazine. Mom also works at Wal Mart so she gets 10% off products. So all in all it cost about 20.00 Canadian!
well that question would open a absolute can of worms, sure Thomas and the Magic Railraod is hugely popular but it's also very different to any other Thomas film or episode because of the real actors in the film. I would say the chase scene is one of the best scenes from any Thomas film.
My son loves Misty Island Rescue and Day of the Diesels but does not like Blue Mountain Mystery as he looses interest in the middle part of the story.
Best episodes...BUGS, and Rusty and the Boulder.

The only evil character I can think of from BMM is Diesel.. so would it be Diesel and Luke then?
I hope the next new set I see doesn't feature Thomas. I've seen your collection- no doubt others are suffering Massive-Thomas-itis as well.
Wouldn't mind seeing Gordon speed around a set like this, or Stanley- bright silver engine racing around would definitely catch the eye.

Hi Leo, this was a great video! I thought it was interesting how you said about how high the prices of toys are in Australia. I work at Argos in the UK and we sold this set last week for £39.99, that translates to about 63AUD, which is a lot cheaper than what you paid!
I like you idea about having different characters for this set, I would have gone for the new characters, maybe Luke, and Paxton, or Luke and one of the other narrow gauge engines like Skarloey/Rheneas. Fail real was so funny!!

thats only a fraction of the fails...there are a ton of slow motion fails which will become a independent video
it seems the youtube encoder has trouble with the colour test still i do at the fail voice...it jumps to the next video and pauses it....i can assure you the edit was nothing like that...did the same to my slowmo g scale train fail reel

I like the intro's though. That's what sets you apart from other Thomas toy reviews.
one thing I have noticed is that Thomas is in every set these days. Just look at the pirate set.
I prefer the trackmaster misty iland set. Its bigger and not as tall as blue mountain quarry. But my thomas chould pull I think 8 or 10 cars with out crunching the gears
loads of people complain about the intro's, i'll look at the numbers and see it they happen again...nothing worse then annoying the viewers
maybe that why my video's are getting killed off by the dislike trolls, thats a big problem for me now
