"Arguably the best hummingbird-based shooter for the 32X"
Great looking game set in a colourful world where you control a bird and save the world ;)
An interesting aspect of this shooter is the the level requirments varies from time to time keeping the game interesting. The game does look like a plain old genesis would have been more then enough to play the game and get it out to the masses though.
Game was played on Hard, but wish I had just stuck to normal (no special ending to unlock) as it can get pretty intense when you can only take one more hit and a swarm of bugs constantly trying to attack.
Unfortunatly, due to emulation issues, the game suffers from some nasty slowdowns in places and causes crackly samples. The end credit screen i suspect isnt wrking quite right either. -

Truly this is the finest hummingbird-based shooter for the 32X.
novotrade makes the best animal heroes lol
That explains why I'm getting Ecco vibes, it was also made by Novotrade
Otaku De Carnitas the delopment team also made mort the chicken
I was thinking the same thing the moment I heard that music. This is like Ecco the Dolphin took to the skies, haha!
Ladies and gentlemen, THIS right here is truly something that can only be done on the Genesis when a 32X is connected!
It shows some things that are not possible on vanilla MD hardware
now this is probably the best game for the 32X.
Damn. That hummingbird is going postal. Completely annihilating everything in the forest. 🤯
Toad & Chameleon: *Eats bird* mmmm
This game was designed by Ed Annunziata and developed by Novotrade (now known as Appaloosa),the creators of Ecco the Dolphin...hence the similarities...
I thought this had an Ecco feel to it!
Absolutely agreed! The backgrounds are painterly, so beautiful. And the music, I just love the transition that the music does at 2:47 going from an intense battle to a moment of calm. The whole game feels like an exercise in tension and payoff, always teasing you with a little difficulty and then leading to a stage where you can just fly around free. So good!
Beautiful and unique multi- level backgrounds! 32x for 2D.
This game is so beautiful.
I loved playing this game as a kid.
I don't know what I expected when I clicked on the video but it certainly wasn't this
OH MAN SOMEONE UPLOADED THIS YESSSS
I got major stuck on this about a year ago, and UA-cam had just about nothing helpful, but now there's this! :D So glad to see someone out there has an interest in a friggin hummingbird shooter and uploads videos. x'D
These game makers put a great deal into this game!
Wow! This brings back so much memories of when my brothers used to play the game on 32X. Kind of a tidbit that the credits always put in the surname before the first name of each person of concern. Weird!
That's a thing with the Hungarian language, with the surname going before the first name. The developer, Novotrade, was based out of Budapest.
I want freakin Hummingbirds with laser beams attached to there heads .
Honestly throw me a bone here!! 😂
I still have my sega, 32x, and this game. Such nostalgia!
Me too brother.. them were the days. I was 19 and making my own money to buy all the games I wanted. I've had systems and games come and go, but I still own Kolibri.. it will always have a special place in my heart
Holysht this game.. Is beautiful!. What a hidden gem.
With all the damn similarities to Ecco, I'm just going to go 'head and say they occur in the same universe.
Novotrade/Appaloosa seems to be big on animal sims w/plots. Ecco, Kolibri, Jaws. Even the The Lost World: Jurassic Park was sort of a sim.
Jesus, this is like Ecco with hummingbirds...
It's made by a lot of the same people! :)
Except Ecco didn't have any firepower
@@Lightblue2222He sort of did; when powered up enough he could turn his sonar blasts into projectiles. Just much clunkier..
Sega's answer to the Amiga's Agony.
mmmmm... no
"Arguably the finest hummingbird-based shooter available for the 32X" - Penny Arcade
Lol
And it seems to be the only shooter in existence that has you play as a hummingbird.
I've seen alot of hummingbird shooters come and go in my time.. But this is the only one people remember.
Holy crap. It’s a hummingbird that shoots lasers!
This is the best graphics that I have seen in a Genesis game and I have never known this game exists well I know it now.
its a sega 32x game
Has a real Ecco The Dolphin feel to it.
Holyshit this game.. Is beautiful!. What a hidden gem.
going the action heavy route was a mistake imo, a more puzzle/exploration oriented meditative approach with a few action segments here and there would've fit the overall atmosphere more.
thjhis was a great game along with Knuckles chaotix
This game looks hella confusing but I wish I had came across it because... seems worthy of some time.
I was hitted strong impression from this game back then. gaming CG like the museum's picture.
The farthest I could get was the Infected Forest, so it was really great seeing what happened after! On hard no less!
I bought this game 5 years ago for about $20 at a local game store. I never played it. I don't currently have a 32x
Hummingbird hallucinating after sipping from a flower
That one bad-ass humming bird!
My favorite game for 32x. Bought it from the Gamers in my town many, many years ago.
OMG they should have made MORE of those BIRD SHOOTERS!
Con algo de arte Maya y Azteca, que increible!
Lol my first thought watching this was., "Looks like the first level of Ecco, but with hummingbirds... when will the aliens and crystals come out."
then, LO and BEHOLD, he is a magical star-crystal-shooting hummingbird!
I can hear those SC-55 strings in there
Every inch of this game is like 5 layers of custom paintings.
beautiful game
however the emulator ABSOLUTELY doesn't do this game the justice in terms of graphics and sound.on the original console it looks and sounds much much better.
Agreed, I'm playing it right now and I could tell I was watching emulation.
nossa lembro de ter lido sobre esse jogo numa revista antiga de videogame cara, insano hein?
Its remember me Lion King and Jurrasic Park 2(graphics, sounds etc)
This game looks fun.
Now that's a hardcore Kolibri
Beautiful in my upcoming video i show this game WOW i have never seen it till i walked into a retro store
Boy, what a great ending!
Then again this game doesn't have a very deep plot.
@@thisp0ryg0nwillgiveyourdev65 By today's standards it rivals Dostoevsky.
This is Ecco, all again
ESP Ra De' is my most played game on my M.A.M.E arcade machine!
Kolibri, Cosmic Carnage, RAW, Fromula, Brutal, and Knuckles Chaotix were the only games I had on the 32X iirc.
I give it an A for uniqueness.
Dang, Novotrade is kinda weird...but kinda awesome at the same time!
This is 90's all over it.
The drug ammount required to enjoy this game is incompatible with the skill level demanded to beat it.
Dat transition sound tho
Hot dang. This almost looks like an early Saturn game.
Helps that the 32X uses the same processor as the Saturn!
Yea 32X is a 2D beast.
It's so great
It certainly is a lot more in-depth than Agony.
The graphics are stunning! :) How many colors could the 32X display at once?
32,768
At least you don't hafta deal with finding air.
The best bird-based shooter for the 32X.
The camera movement of this game put me in the hospital.
Anyone else here after hearing about this game for the first time in their life from Ian on the CU Podcast?
What a fine game. I've grabbed it to play on emulation but it crashes, I'll need to find a better ROM. Beautiful visuals and music!
I used to love playing this but it would lock up on me after a while. I don't know why. I don't recall having problems with other 32x games.
Same thing happened to Apu.
54:33 the end screen of all end screens LOL
very nice game, almost finished but couldn't because there's an attack effect unemulated in my emulators ;_; shit i was in the ending of level 19/20!!
Que molestó el ruido que hace el láser del colibrí, por lo demás es un buen juego, sabiendo que es de hace años.
50:23 looks like that creepy ass gun from Scorn ;-;
fever dream game
Flit, prepare to meet your match.
A polish game by the looks of the names behind the game.
Hungarian actually.
I like games like this =) Appealing graphics, unique style of gameplay and soothing music. Not many games on the Sega 32x are worth playing, but this one gets my seal of aproval. Besides, how many games do you know where you play as a Kolibri bird?
YEA!!
hummingbrids :)
Shagadelic
e esse jogo me lembrou um jogo muito underrated muito obscuro cara q eu adoro BIO HAZARD BATTLE. vo jogar hj de novo asudhsu
it dont get better than hummbirds with lasers
Have any strategies for the tentacles that aren't the invincibility cheat? Yeah thanks
Appaloosa (was Novotrade), please make more games! Please! ;n;
Appaloosa closed in 2006...
What, really? Oh no! D:
Hm... I just don't remember of recalling any of those developers from any of them... It has just always been only flash'n "Sega".
this is bio hazard battle with a hummingbird
It reminds me agony of psygnosis where an owl eliminates foes by shooting them
Clear inspiration. Even the title screen seems ripped off Agony
It's honestly a damn shame that the 32x didn't catch on due to squabbles between SOA & SOJ. I really think it had the potential to be one of the Genesis' swan song and might have even had the ability to compete with some of the later SNES titles.
But unfortunately that's all just a mere pipe dream of a wishful thinker......
This screaaams Ecco the Dolphin..
Incredible what two pwm channels coud do along YM2612 at 22khz
Actually it's (clearly) FM synthesis.
He didn’t say it wasn’t FM.....the YM2612 IS the FM chip on the Genesis. But he’s also right about the extra channels; in addition to the FM synthesis, there are (clearly) a lot of samples being played that far exceed what the Genesis could do on its own.
@@joaogoncalves1149 clearly more than just FM. this game has lots of natural sounds FM can't do.
SEGA 32X could be finished by next year as there were only a handful of games on it so thats my target for you if you choose to except it guys at Cubex are you up to the challenge of playing both the good and the bad of the notorious 32X until the full collection is checked off including the Proto exclusives?!!!!?
are those flying tadpoles?
Arguably the only Hummingbird Shooter anywhere. lol
The closest we have to this is Agony for the Amiga.
@Sister Supersonic Yeah, I know.
Madre mia GODZILLA en pájaro 🤣🤣🤣
Agony
can you launch rockets in this game?
I feel like this game would be better if it were a bit more consistent like Ecco. It would be nice if, instead of just instantly starting a new level, you had to actually exit the first level... if only because it seems really damn jarring
Es idea mía, pero recordé biohazard battle .
AVGN didn't had this game?
I wish more people would block users for saying that:)
At the beginning, the horrifyingly realistic recreation of the great Hummingbird-Hornet War depicts the violence in sufficient detail that I believe this video should be flagged as inappropriate for children.
Don't you ever put those words in that exact sentence ever again.

Hate Wasps
There was a game being made for the 32x called Virtua Hamster. Sadly, it was never released.
lmao
I think 256 on screen
