@@michaelmurray1712 My understanding is that you have to make a separate segment (or segment pieces) from allumilite. You can make a square piece and then cut it into strips and add it into the segment with the wood.
1200 subscribers and 130,000 views! That's one heck of a project, and you truly should have picked up more subscribers than that with this project! Absolutely wonderful.
Tracy Keaton thank you Tracy! I’m going to focus on what I can control (making cool stuff) and let everyone catch up. I don’t think I post frequently enough for UA-cam to recommend my channel, so I’ll just keep plugging away!
@@StudioJLT someone on another post was telling a lady it has to do with tags or key words something like that if you know what I'm talking about. I hope that helps because this deserves alot more viewers
Diana Schofield clear resin will yellow overtime, as will white. But a nice smoky grey colored resin, with hints a second color (purple maybe?) would look great. Once I get my new shop set up, I’m definitely making something like that! Thanks for watching.
This is incredibly beautiful and unique sir! I wish you would show all your skills u used tho. The effects you got in the resin is stunning and adds so much to your piece! I’m happy to join others as a subscriber. Have a blessed day and keep making these videos!😁
I loved your whole process of making this vase ,such a wonderful idea. The finished product is absolutely beautiful, I love it 💜 Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🎄🎁🎉
I'm a big fan of small bottoms too, but in the case of a vase, I might have opted for a little more stability. Still one of the nicest I've seen anywhere.
hey there josh im a new subscriber, woodturner, and youtuber and that is a pretty vase my man u take care now ok? and remember God loves u, God bless. chris
this is so incredibly beautiful...all i can say is WOW...makes me want to learn wood craft like yesterday......thank you for sharing , but can you share what those little black squares you added between the wedges were made from.?
drowization thank you. I used manzanita burl and Purple Heart for the wood, and resin for the rest. Took about twenty hours of work to make it. This one has long since sold, but you can find my other works at www.StudioJLT.com. You’re welcome.
Nice work and beautiful result, thank you Josh! I really like the combination of resin and wood without casting them together in a way I haven't seen. I just made a mess in my shop with resin colorant, should make for an entertaining moment in the future video when I post it. I'll have to bleep myself out.
Nice work. Beautiful vase. Although a little commentary would be nice it is your rodeo, ride that horse how you feel you need to. LOL,,, I don’t even have a channel. Can’t say much. Enjoyed the video.
Dwayne Cain I talk in some videos, just let the process unfold in others. Depends on how I’m feeling, and if the video makes sense without the voiceover. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Very nice sir! How much difference in diameter between rings--either larger or smaller, i.e. how much bigger in diameter is ring 3 than ring 2--and how much smaller between the top rings--in diameter do you step down or up in 1/2" increments or what?? Thanks man--Don Davis
Don Davis hey Don, there are online calculators that can help you determine the size of your pieces in order to get your desired diameter. I sketch out my desired shape then use these tools to get the rings. Hope this helps. -Josh.
@@StudioJLT Appreciate the feedback sir, I have no issue calculating the ring diameter to build the rings, I am just hoping for one of you super-talented makers to tell me how much difference in diameter to make each successive ring--I guess I'll just have to try a few builds!
Don Davis I guess it depends on the shape you’re looking for. When you have a curve in the ring, you need to make the ring super thick. When it’s going up and down, you can make a thin ring. My best advice is to try out the tools, and find some videos that walk through how to segment properly. Steven ogle has a video on it that I learned from, try his videos.
You do awesome work. I have made a number of bowls on my 9 inch South Bend metal lathe but none could hold a candle to yours. Could I get a chuck for my lathe like yours? Again, beautiful work indeed.
Donnie Schober thanks Donnie! I’m really not sure about what sort of chucks you can put on a metal lathe. I think speed is a limiting factor for metal lathes though, as wood lathes go much faster. Up to 3500 rpm for some applications. Larger bowls you wouldn’t get up that high, of course. My lathe is from harbor freight, cost about $300 with a coupon. You don’t have spend a ton to get started on a wood lathe. Good luck to you Sir!
EnoEnasni thanks. I used red mallee burl, Purple Heart, and Alumilite resin. The swirl is harder to get, you can’t mix the colors until the resin reaches a hot temperature.
I was wondering how you added the resin accent? Was it a poured “board” of marbled colored resin? It looks like the wood you used had holes and you filled with the resin too maybe ? I want to get some tools, join a local group and learn! I do other things and love to make things with my hands. Can’t wait for your next video!

Love the resin area. If you do something like this again may i suggest a grey toned wood with a clear resin with white swirled in to look like smoke
